Bookshelf PH launches online magazine Blankscape, a curated gallery for writers and artists

At an event held in SM Aura Book Nook, Bookshelf PH launched Blankscape an online digital magazine that gives writers and artists a platform to share their work with the world.

In the endless concrete jungles of Metro Manila, feeling overwhelmed and lost is easy. From towering buildings to the multitudes who live and work here, the individual has little room to really express themselves.

Even on social media, these spaces are becoming increasingly crowded. Algorithms and the focus on popular and trending content frequently drown out the voices of original content and small artists. More than ever, there is a pressing need for a place where these Filipino creators can have their works given the proper attention they deserve.

Fortunately, a new initiative aims to change all of this.

New worlds calling

At the latest “Write Side of Bookshelf” session at the SM Aura Book Nook, publisher Bookshelf PH officially unveiled their new digital magazine Blankscape. The magazine aims to be a safe place where creators can have their works presented and even polished to be the very best they can be.

The magazine is divided into different sections for paintings (Strokes), poetry (Stanzas), prose (Sentences), and photography (Shots), catering to all forms of creative and artistic expression possible.

The name Blankscape, a play on the words “blank space” and “landscape”, represents something more profound. It represents an empty canvas, a world waiting to be given life and color. Through this initiative, the publisher hopes to foster creativity and artistic expression by providing creatives a safe space to develop their craft, one page at a time.

The joys of creation

To celebrate the launch of the new platform, attendees participated in a very special activity.  Using provided pencils and paper, they were given ten minutes to express themselves and create works based on the theme, “Escape”. This theme perfectly represents the type of creative expression that Blankscape wishes to cultivate–that anyone can find safety from the constant restraints and overbearing noise of the outside world and the mainstream and be free to develop their ideas.

After the ten minutes were up, several of the participants showcased their works. One of them, for instance, interpreted the theme in the drawing of a child lost in the pages of a book, his imagination taking him to new places and faces never before seen.

Behind the dream

“I can’t draw to save my life,” Monette, one of the co-founders of Bookshelf, jokingly said to the audience. “But even though I can’t draw, I still want to help others who can. Among us, many can write and draw.” Bookshelf PH itself was created to help meet a pressing need she noticed during the pandemic–a lack of books about Filipino businesses and local stories. Over time, the publisher has expanded its reach beyond its original scope.

Now, they wish to do the same for Filipino creatives. They too deserve a place where they can explore and spread their wings in an environment suited perfectly for free and total creative expression–a blankscape.

Come and bring your work today! Blankscape is now accepting submissions at https://www.blankscape.media/.

Bitcoin Price Hits $65,000, Effects of #Uptober?

Bitcoin price is up and reaching over $65,000. Is this increase because #Uptober is coming or is it just a coincidence and BTC price will go down again tomorrow? Check out the explanation in this article.

Yesterday, Bitcoin received a prediction that its price would increase, today this prediction came true. Bitcoin Price rose to a level of more than $65,000 today.

Is it true that the increase in BTC prices is because #Uptober has come as predicted? Or will this price increase only last today and will decline again tomorrow?

Check out the detailed explanation by reading this article to the end.

Bitcoin Price Chart Today

After Bitcoin experienced a continuous decline in price for a long time, today Bitcoin finally penetrated the $65,710 level with an increase of +2.46%. In fact, within 24 hours, Bitcoin reached its highest price of $66,499.

You can see a screenshot of the Bitcoin price chart above taken from the Bitrue market. The BTC RSI indicator reached 65, which is a good number in the buying trend because it is more dominant than the selling trend. However, this dominance is still within reasonable limits, not overbought.

The MACD line is clearly visible rising. The two lines also have a clear distance so that the bullish trend will come soon.

So, we can be optimistic that today's Bitcoin price increase is the beginning of BTC's bullishness until the end of 2024. In fact, it is predicted that it will experience a price increase until 2025 based on its performance cycle in the last 4 years.

Bitcoin Dominance in the Crypto Market

Bitcoin has indeed become the dominant coin in the crypto market. With today's price increase, BTC dominance is at 58.04. This dominance figure is indeed relatively high, but has decreased by 0.06%.

The price of Bitcoin is like the price of other crypto tokens which experience price fluctuations every day. However, it cannot be denied that Bitcoin has had a fantastic price increase since its first appearance.

Larry Fink, CEO of Blackrock, even stated that Bitcoin could be considered a quality investment asset that could compete with gold.

Bitcoin, which has penetrated the investment stock market, is also increasingly recording major achievements. Bitcoin ETF inflows reached $23 billion and are predicted to continue experiencing significant growth in the future.

Conclusion: the Rising of BTC Price and #Uptober Optimism

#Uptober 2024 seems to be weakening in its presence. Moreover, there are many factors that make the arrival of this annual tradition seem late or even absent this year. However, today's Bitcoin price increase is good news and makes the crypto community optimistic about the presence of #Uptober.

#Uptober is predicted to come in mid-October around October 17/18. If the price of Bitcoin remains at $65,500, it means that #Uptober has really come.

The 23rd edition of the PELÍCULA>Pelikula Spanish Film Festival, organized by Instituto Cervantes de Manila, concluded successfully after a dynamic week of Spanish and Latin American cinema at the Red Carpet Cinemas, Shangri-La Plaza. With over 6,000 attendees, the festival ran from October 5 to 13, 2024, offering a rich selection of different kinds of films and events that captivated the Filipino viewers.

The closing weekend saw strong audience engagement, with back-to-back full-house screenings. The Festival wrapped up on 13 October with the awarding of the Premio del Público (Audience Choice Award), which went to Dani de la Orden's Casa en llamas (2024). The film, a dark comedy about a woman’s determined yet chaotic attempt to reunite her family, captured viewers' hearts. The movie has made waves in the cinematic world, bagging several national awards and becoming the highest-grossing Catalan film of all time. Several other films garnered significant audience support and were recognized as runner-ups, including El maestro que prometió el mar, Loli Tormenta, La llegada, Cerrar los ojos, Robot Dreams, Te estoy amando locamente, Puan, Pacarrete, and La estrella azul. Each film added depth to the festival’s lineup, reflecting the diverse stories and perspectives from Spain and Latin America.

On the last day of PELÍCULA, the Festival organisers also celebrated the success of its En Corto series, a space for cultural interaction, where local filmmaker Kyla Romero presented her short film Transients alongside her cast and crew. This series offered a platform for short films that picture different facets of the human experience. Included in the line up were: Aunque es de noche by Guillermo García López (Spain), Primetime Nother by Sonny Calvento (Philippines), and La sixtina by Juan Camilo Fonnegra (Colombia).
