Thousands run for a greener, leaner, brighter future.

More than 2,500 humans and over 300 dogs of different breeds joined the third edition of The Green Run, the annual multi-category run inside Vermosa, AyalaLand’s 700-hectare modern suburban estate in Imus, Cavite, on Sunday, June 30.

The unprecedented surge of participants in this running event with various distances to suit fitness levels and running purpose reflected the still growing enthusiasm for running and the desire to get involved in meaningful advocacies for a greener, brighter future.

Fun runners, fitness enthusiasts and aspiring marathoners joined elite athletes on the tracks, lacing up for 21K, 10K, 5K, and 3K distances, while fur parents bonded on the trail with their ShihTzus, Poodles, Jack Russels, Huskies, Retrievers, and Aspins in the crowd favorite, the 1.4K Dog Run.

“We are extremely happy and grateful for the overwhelming support and response of runners in this year’s Green Run. More than just bringing fun and promoting healthy living, we are delighted to also give the running community a worthy cause to support.

The Green Run’s main mission is to give back to the community by concretizing our commitment to protect the environment, championing young athletes and promoting animal care,” said Chrissy Roa, AyalaLand Inc. marketing and communications group head.

“This year, we welcomed Takbo Kabitenyo to the growing family of Vermosa. We opened the Ayala Vermosa Sport Hub to youth runners from Cavite who have a strong potential to become national athletes. We are committed to providing them with training support and the use of our state-of-the-art facilities. We look forward to producing athletes who will bring pride to our country in the future while providing them with opportunities to have a better quality of life,” Ms. Roa added.

Aside from Takbo Kabitenyo, the Green Run continued to support the Haribon Foundation this year and added Pawssion Project as a beneficiary to also advocate for animal welfare.

The Green Run 2024 was made possible by its partner brands: Avida Sentria Storeys, Ayala Malls Vermosa, Kremil-S, Diatabs, Merrell, Pocari Sweat, Park Access, Chris Sports, Fitbar, Naturals, Healthway Medical Network, Fuwa Fuwa, Nutrition Depot, Mogu Mogu, Sante Barley and Oishi.

To commemorate the liturgical feast day that honors two martyrs of the Christian faith, St. Peter and St. Paul, the Philippine Postal Corporation (The Post Office) has launched its “Travelling Pope Stamps Exhibit” in Lipa City Cathedral in the province of Batangas featuring certified Guinness Book of World Records “Pope Stamp collections” of Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Secretary General Kim Robert De Leon.

The public is invited to see the exhibit from June 30 to July 07, 2024 at the La Pieta Chapel Basilica in Lipa City.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest collection of stamps featuring Popes is 2,398, achieved by Kim Robert De Leon, a Filipino from Navotas, NCR, and Philippines on 22 February 2022.

Administrative and Finance Manager of Postal Area 4 Arvin Macandili in his speech in behalf of the new Chairman and Postmaster General Mike Planas, thank the Metropolitan Cathedral of San Sebastian, commonly known as Lipa Cathedral headed by its Most Reverend Archbishop Gilbert Armea Garcera for allowing the Post Office to hold this exhibit which is a celebration of the life and legacy of different Pope and their apostolic visit to the Philippines.

The Post Office wishes to make the memory of our popes with the Filipinos close and alive through this Pope Stamps Exhibition.

During the program, SecGen Kim said, “it is an honor for me to be given this opportunity to recognize my work and for my fellow Filipinos to appreciate it which I hope would inspire others especially the youth to collect postage stamps”.

Apart from our traditional postal service, the Post Office is seriously gearing towards how it can innovate in a digital-forward approach, improve its production and promote non-traditional uses of the collectibles (stamps) using the technology and the diverse social media.

This traveling Pope Stamps exhibit has previously been held in Manila and Malabon and is set to visit other venues in the country for the public to cherish and appreciate the value of stamp collecting in today’s generation.

UP Mathematician Develops Model For Heat Propagation Through Rough Surfaces

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Suppose you have a pair of pants you need to wear tomorrow. The problem is, you just washed them, and they’re still damp. So you resort to a handy tool: the flat iron.

Using the iron, you can easily dry the flat parts of the pants, but you will notice that it is more difficult to dry some areas where the surface is uneven – near the zipper, the side and back pockets, the seams, and the waistband.

That’s because the heat from the iron does not reach the uneven areas as quickly as it does the flatter areas. In other words, the heat propagation, or the heat transfer from the iron to the pants, is not uniform on rough surfaces.

Understanding how heat propagates from one material to another is important in designing efficient cooling devices, such as air conditioners, or constructing infrastructures that minimize heat from the sun. In some cases, heat propagation is simple to model when the boundary at which the two materials touch is flat, such as ironing the flat areas of the pants. In other cases, however, the heat propagation model is more complex when the boundary is rough, such as when ironing the uneven areas of the pants.
