Rediscover Café-style Coffee at Home with Nespresso Vertuo

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

For over 30 years, Nespresso’s innovations have redefined the way that millions of people around the world enjoy their coffee, growing from a ground-breaking idea in Switzerland to a global brand that’s made its mark in 81 countries and counting.

At the touch of a button, customers in homes, offices, hotels, restaurants, and cafés now enjoy high-quality, sustainably produced coffee, cup after cup.

Nespresso has always made ways to bring all the best things about coffee—cozy, convenient, and most importantly, café-quality—together in one place: at home. Now, their newest range can take you back to the root of the roast, while also allowing you to explore the endless possibilities inside every little capsule.

Last February 9, Nespresso proudly introduced its revolutionary Vertuo line of machines and coffee capsules, which steps up the at-home coffee game to café levels with each of its unique features. The exclusive media launch was held at Ember, Greenbelt 3, with the menu customized and curated by chef-owner Josh Boutwood. The whole dining experience was crafted to highlight the rich, full-bodied flavors that Nespresso is known for.

Melissa Valdez, Commercial and Marketing Head at Novateur, says, “We love working with [Chef Josh] because he really understands the ethos of Nespresso; he is passionate about elevating experiences, transforming ingredients into extraordinary dishes with an innovative sense of craftsmanship.”

Hosts David Celdran and Migs Bustos welcomed guests and invited them to explore all the ways in which Nespresso elevates the at-home coffee experience. To demonstrate what that might look like, Nespresso Coffee Ambassador JR Abril walked guests through the Vertuo’s capabilities; the new array of flavors, brewing styles, and cup sizes; the one-touch system that automatically recognizes different capsules and sets the appropriate brewing parameters; and Nespresso’s patented Centrifusion technology, which gets more out of every pod, resulting in a cup brimming with aroma, flavor, and a rich, thick crema—a strong indicator of quality coffee.

“We’re particularly excited about [Vertuo],” says Patrick Pesengco, Managing Director of Novateur. “The actual device is so intuitive and sleek, but we also feel that the range i’s a step in the right direction in terms of coffee appreciation, especially with the expanded range of roasts and flavors. This will definitely be a welcome addition in homes across the Philippines.”

Former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach graced the event to talk about her love of the brand, going so far as to gift the machines to friends and becoming a regular face at her local Nespresso boutique; she also makes it a point to have a machine around on when working, declaring it essential. Diver and digital creator Cha Ocampo, also a Nespresso fan, shared with those in attendance her own experience with the convenience and variety of options the brand brings to her multifaceted lifestyle, from diving to at-home dining.

“I’ve been a huge fan of Nespresso for a long time, and I’m not shy about it! I’m so pleased to be working with them and I can’t wait for people to try Vertuo for themselves,” says Wurtzbach.

The Nespresso Vertuo is now available for purchase in the Philippines. Click Add to cart on their e-commerce page, or visit any Nespresso boutique store, pop-up, or certified machine retailer in Metro Manila and Cebu. To find out more about this revolutionary twist on your at-home coffee experience, follow Nespresso Philippines on Facebook and Instagram for updates, or log on to their website.

PLDT Champions Sustainability Through the Bohol Cacao Production and Rehabilitation Project

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Celebrating leadership and sportsmanship, the PLDT Group held its MVP Cup Golf Tournament, at the Sta. Elena Golf & Country Club in Laguna. With its theme, “Further Together Through Camaraderie Among Champions,” PLDT partnered with organizations that pushed for sustainable development through innovation and corporate social responsibility, most notably with the PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF), PLDT Group’s social outreach arm.

Marking the annual tournament’s 19th year, partners and guests gathered to recharge, unwind, reconnect, and contribute to a meaningful cause at the fellowship night of the newly returned golf event. PLDT has long embedded sustainability in all aspects of its business and aspires to maintain relationships with like-minded partners. This year’s beneficiary is the Bohol Cacao Production and Rehabilitation Training Program, a sustainable approach to create livelihood opportunities for smallholder farmer cooperatives and associations in Bohol, especially after the devastating effects of super typhoon Odette last December 2021. Through the MVP Cup, PSF turned over P250,000 to its Adopt-a-Cacao Project.

During the event, Bohol Chocolate maker and entrepreneur, Dalareich Polot, shared the disastrous effects of the super typhoon on her home island, particularly on farming cacao trees that are a big part of Boholano culture.

Through her efforts and the support of PSF and Alagang Kapatid Foundation, also under the MVP Group, she was able to continue with rebuilding and recovery projects– most notably with the Bohol Cacao Production and Rehabilitation Training Program. Through this project, the farmers will undergo two days hands-on training to learn about cacao rehabilitation and rejuvenation, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and values formation.

Guided by its commitment to driving the country’s digital capabilities forward, PLDT will also integrate technology into the project with data gathering to be done through QR codes for a more efficient cacao inventory and traceability. Producers will likewise be connected to the right market to sell their quality dried cacao beans to chocolate makers in Bohol.

With cacao rehabilitation, propagation, and production, the community would be able to recover their cacao trees and make them productive again. This is in line with Polot’s vision of supplying quality cacao beans to all the chocolate makers in Bohol, the Philippines, and the world.

The MVP Cup continues to be a platform that strengthens sportsmanship and leadership while raising awareness on important causes such as this. The Bohol Cacao Production and Rehabilitation Training Program is proof of PLDT’s commitment to its values of integrity, excellence, and that by working hand in hand, organizations and businesses can go Further Together.

Through DOST-SEI's partnership with the Department of Education, these STEM modules are also accessible for use as a learning resource in the delivery of science and mathematics education.

TuklaSiyensya is a response to the shift in the learning delivery modality of schools prompted by the pandemic. It is designed as both a supplement to the traditional learning method for junior and senior high school students and STEM career promotions package. It is based on the existing modules developed by young scientists and scholars who act as facilitators in the NuLab mobile science learning facility.

DOST-SEI Director Dr. Josette T. Biyo expressed her support and delight that TuklaSiyensya is releasing new videos. “It is a must that we continue to ride on the online waves to reach more and more young people and bring science closer to them.”
