Is Vice Ganda an effective representation of the queer community

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Some would say Vice Ganda has been an effective representation of the queer community to mainstream media. She's been poor, she's effeminate, she's learning, and she's not perfect. Y'all can say anything about her movies but you can't deny the impact she made to the young queers.

Though Vice Ganda movies never properly represented the LGBTQ community in the Philippines. His films are over hyped just because it is "Vice Ganda" film and the plots aren't even that good. He also doesn't deserve to be in the MMFF every fucking year.

The notion of selling "kwela" to the masses should not equate to poor storytelling.

I can't relate to his movies but I am sure he has inspired a lot of LGBTQ kids in the closet to come out.

I can still remember that moment when they called out Tado on Showtime when he made fun of gay people paying for men. And when they reprised "multong bakla" into "diyosang bakla". They're an icon. Yes, Vice can be problematic and this is not to excuse them but what they did to queer kids to reclaim what has been an insult and transform it to something that is powerful that no one can never use that against gays is very special.

Though any hardworking femme-androgynous gays are just as valid. Vice Ganda alone can’t represent the entire queer spectrum!

Kasi di ba, for a pa-girl to represent the community, kailangan BEST. Kailangan perfect, kailangan yung walang malalait.

For a time, maiinis ka na tinatawag kang Vice Ganda kasi ginagamit itong panukso.

Wala kayong kailangan gawin para i-earn na deserving to represent the community. After all, sino ba ang mga unang baklang matatapang na naging visible para gayahin ng midya at gawing karakter sa pelikula?

Oh, the first ever bakla character in PH cinema ay walang iba kung hindi isang flamboyant crossdressing fag.

"masyado s'yang baklang kanal"

"masyado syang bakla"

"nagbabayad sya ng lalaki"

these comments why femmephobia and homophobia per se exists in the society especially in the LGBTQ+ community. na naging masama ang pagbabayad sa lalaki. na sobrang mali na maging malambot.

Of all the "types" of gays, trans and femme people had the most struggles because of one thing: heteronormativity. and they broke the norms that the society has been implementing for what? gender roles? stereotypes?

As a masculine gay, you'd rather be represented by a femme gay who most likely experienced the gravity of struggle as you did than a masculine gay whose struggles cannot sum up the level of prosecutions received by the femmes.

I thought the whole point of the rainbow was that there's more than one way to be gay? Why demand homogenous representation of an inherently diverse community? and more importantly, why are you putting that responsibility on Vice Ganda?

It was never her responsibility. The fact that she stood up for herself when she was a nobody, to now that she's The Unkabogable, the story itself is already THE representation for everyone in the community to grow and mature.

Hidilyn Diaz off to the Tokyo Olympics

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

2016 Rio Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz officially makes a return to the quadrennial meet!

Diaz competed in the women’s 55kg division. This event formalizes her entry to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics during the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Taskhkent, Uzbekistan.

Diaz becomes the seventh Filipino in the Tokyo Olympics. She will make her fourth Olympic appearance since Beijing (2008), London (2012) and Rio (2016) Games.

She joins boxers Eumir Marcial, Irish Magno, Carlo Paalam and Nesthy Petecio, pole vaulter EJ Obiena and gymnast Carlos Yulo.

Diaz is now a step closer to claiming more of the Philippines' Olympic medals after formalizing her qualification.

Regardless of her positioning in this tourney, Diaz already secures a spot in the Tokyo Olympics by virtue of completing the five-tournament rule.

From silver memories to golden thoughts. Hidilyn Diaz is about to make us proud again in Tokyo.

Proud of our athletes as they make it rain medals at #SEAGames! Special shoutout to our weightlifting champ on winning her 1st SEA Games gold. Thank you for showing us the indomitable spirit of the Filipino

#CommunityPantryPH: Give only what you can, take only what you need

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

"What we ordinary Filipinos lack in privilege we make up for courage. To give from out of our overabundance is liberality; but to give out of poverty is valor."

Lovin' the concept of #CommunityPantryPH popping up here and there. These can somehow help others who really don't have anything to survive each day of their lives. SMALL ACTIONS, BIG IMPACTS.

Inspired by the Maginhawa Community Pantry, Eastwood built a community pantry in Baranggay San Isidro Montalban, Rizal.

Initiatives such as #CommunityPantryPH is more effective in mobilizing people than others. It is covid-19-oriented, inclusive, sincere and spontaneous. This is what being political really means. It is not predetermined, propaganda-based, a means toward political agenda, etc.

This is what society looks like when both ends of the community help one another with what they can give and what they need.

More than community outreach purposes, #CommunityPantryPH provides implications on the masses' sense of pakikipagkapwa. You don't see them hoarding and emptying shelves like how elitists did when the pandemic started.

If a food pantry can provide extra groceries , then the money saved can be spent on other necessities of life..

All of these contributions are meaningful and important.

Kudos to the LGU of Eastwood Baranggay San Isidro in Rodriguez (Montalban), Rizal for adapting the Community Pantry initiative that started in Quezon City.

Sold out!

Para sa hindi pa nakakaalam, the Eastwood Community Pantry started today April 18, 2021 at 5pm, as announced by the Baranggay Chairman.of San Isidro, though earlier nakita kong umuusad na yung pila.

"Magbigay ng ayon sa kakayahan. Kumuha lang ng ayon sa pangangailangan."

"Give only what you can. Take only what you need."

May susunod naman malamang. This is an activity worth sustaining.

First run of the Community Pantry was done this afternoon at the property fronting the home of the Baranggay captain here in Eastwood Residences Phase 1.

Rodriguez Mayor Tom Hernandez and sister Baranggay San Isidro Chairman Karen Mae Hernandez were present.

There were a lot of residents, not only from Eastwood Residences, that queued and unfortunately no longer practicing the social distancing health and safety protocol....though they were wearing face masks and shields, but the line is too long reaching to the streets.

Not everyone there got to receive the sort of "ayuda" in kind composed of donations from different peeps, companies and organizations - fishes, veggies, canned goods, noodles, coffee, milk, sugar, rice, even toothpastes and soap....and some other goods thus many went home empty-handed but I was informed that there will be more of this community pantry established soon.

We also encourage those who want to establish their own community pantry in their respective barangays.

SAMA-SAMA, TULONG-TULONG, BE BLESSED, AND BE A BLESSING.

Community pantries are drawing inspiration from each other in response to a gap. Yung kakulangan ng national government.

Meanwhile, this. Whatever happened to the supposedly Duterte's Kitchen which was intended for the same purpose as these Community Pantries?

You might be minded to help. Because we can't rely on the national government. The LGUs are doing a better job.

So disgusted & angered with how the regime brands #CommunityPantryPH as mere bayanihan "inherent" in Filipinos. We come together because the government FAILED to deliver the most basic of necessities. The pantries are critique and resistance, not an EXCUSE for Duterte to not do his job.

Has the #CommunityPantryPH became petition centers to call #DuterteResign?

Social solidarity in replacement of state neglect and ill-response.

I hope the government will not just ride along the #CommunityPantryPH initiative and reason out the Filipino bayanihan to patch up their incompetence.

It is ridiculous how pro-government supporters are criticizing #CommunityPantryPH for "politicizing" the bayanihan initiative. Yes, it is a short-term solution. Sure, it will reach donor's fatigue...but the community isn't responsible to provide longterm solutions. we pay government taxes for that.

Regardless of how we view things, the #CommunityPantryPH movement is a great initiative. Whether we like it or not, it is political. It just goes to show how negligent the Philippine government is and how we are left to fend for ourselves. We must continue to call for accountability.

Sa hundreds of billions (or possibly even trillions) of loans that the Duterte regime got from internal and foreign sources, mapapaduda ka talaga kung wala talagang resources ang gobyerno. Saan napunta?

"When giving is a habit... It becomes a lifestyle!"
