FDCP's Film Industry Conference Goes Online for 2020 Edition

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In keeping with an eventful September in honor of Philippine Cinema and the industry, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) will be hosting the online edition of the Film Industry Conference (FIC) from September 11 to 15. Launched in 2017 and scheduled for its fourth edition this year, the FDCP-organized Film Industry Conference brings together several international film industry experts and stakeholders to discuss trends in the film industry through a series of public lectures and masterclasses.

FIC Online 2020 is a major part of FDCP’s efforts in supporting the continued growth of the FIlipino filmmaking community. Through several local and international partnerships, the conference will bring in film industry experts to discuss some of the most pressing topics in filmmaking today. Such partnerships include international organizations, film festivals, and film labs such as Netflix, Full Circle Lab, Locarno Film Festival, Rotterdam Lab and more. The various FIC mentors and speakers will be presenting opportunities and platforms pertinent to Filipino producers and filmmakers, particularly those who wish to develop, produce, and distribute their projects internationally.

FIC Online 2020 features speakers from various international programs and festivals including Locarno Open Doors and Rotterdam Lab

Dubbed FIC Online 2020, this year’s iteration of the Film Industry Conference will be conducted online and will feature eight (8) public sessions free and accessible to all, and six (6) ‘masterclasses’ which are recommended for film industry professionals and enthusiasts. As part of the program, a number of the lectures and masterclasses will tackle filmmaking topics with an eye toward the impact and consequences of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Through the online video communications platform Zoom, the public sessions will be free and accessible through online registration.

Filipina Filmmaker Bianca Balbuena will be moderating Public Session 8 in FIC Online 2020.

The eight public sessions to be held at the conference consist of a variety of topics valuable to those wishing to work and learn more about the film industry. Aspiring or up-and-coming filmmakers, writers, directors, and film students may find these classes worthwhile. The sessions include topics such as ‘Getting into Online Film Labs,’ ‘Netflix: Showcasing The Best of Filipino Content,’ ‘Southeast Asia Co-Production Grant & Philippines’ ASEAN Co-Production Fund,’ ‘European Film Labs: Roundtable Discussion With Rotterdam Lab and Locarno Open Doors,’ and more.

FDCP Chairperson and CEO Liza DiƱo will be moderating a panel discussing Filipino content on Netflix.

Meanwhile, the ‘masterclasses’ provide more specific and practical knowledge about working in the industry from those who have succeeded in it. These masterclasses cover broad topics across the different sides of the film industry’s spectrum, from writing, editing, production, and more. They are particularly recommended for film industry professionals and enthusiasts wishing to advance in their field and film industry knowledge.

The six masterclasses offered in Film Industry Conference 2020 are ‘Editing During Quarantine,’ ‘Filmmakers Guide to Film Distribution,’ ‘Financing Your Film and Getting a Co-production on Lockdown,’ ‘Writing During Quarantine,’ ‘Pitching Your Project Virtually,’ and ‘The Success of Marketing Distribution of Genre Films.’ They will be available for between PHP 800 to 1,000 PHP per class or for a bundle of PHP 5,000 for premium access to all masterclasses.

FIC Online 2020 features a panel discussing filmmaking in Southeast Asia.

FDCP Chairperson and CEO Liza DiƱo spoke about the Film Industry Conference continuing with an online edition for 2020 and said, “Since its launch in 2017, the Film Industry Conference has been an integral part of FDCP’s support of Filipino filmmaking. Through the conference, we are able to bring knowledgeable and successful figures in the film industry who in turn share their expertise to the public, and help build the filmmaking community in the Philippines. Such knowledge only helps Philippine cinema as it continues to evolve and improve in different areas.”

“We are particularly excited about FIC Online 2020 because, despite the challenges we face in light of a global pandemic, we will nonetheless be able to push through and provide a platform for the conference speakers to share their knowledge Filipino filmmakers and film enthusiasts. The conference, moreover, will hold discussions on topics relevant today, as the Philippine film industry continues to respond, recover, and grow in response to the impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The masterclasses in FIC Online 2020 feature relevant topics today, such as 'Composing With Constraints: Editing During Quarantine.'

Film Industry Conference 2020 is held in partnership with Full Circle Lab, whose mentors will also be leading different sessions during the conference. The conference precedes the three week online film lab which is scheduled to take place from September 15 to 30.

The 9.9 Lazada and Shopee Sale happened, check out our hoard

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In the Philippines, the Christmas season starts on the 1st day of September. I think 9.9 sale is one way to shop gifts for your loved ones.

It's the Lazada and Shopee 9.9 Sale Stop "tempting me" challenge. Crazy eyes thinking of what else I can add to cart that moment.

The 9.9 Lazada and Shoppe Sale happened! Up to 90% off and they boasted of FREE SHIPPING ..well, if you were able to get the vouchers!

"Just because earlier today is 9.9 sale, doesn't mean you need to buy something" - that is me talking trying to convince or discourage myself while checking out my purchases in my cart.

The vouchers even add to the temptation. Lalo lang akong naging marupok at walang aasahang tibay ng paninindigan.

Whatever we bought at the 9.9 sale, we don't really need them. We all don't really need them, because we shouldn't be spending on non-essentials, not even to reward ourselves for all the shizz that has been going on with the seemingly unending pandemic and incompetence of the government that media had successfully hyped. Kaya regrets will come afterwards. Deserve natin iyan dahil we couldn't control ourselves.

Just a reminder to everyone that buying things that we don't need but are cheaper than usual will always still be a loss and a waste of money. Instead of getting involved with the hype of these sales, please learn to prioritize. ONLY BUY WHAT YOU REALLY NEED.

Sales are alright if we do really need what we bought, but just as how critics have called out the Manila Bay synthetic sand or crushed dolomite project as insensitive, spending on unnecessary items are also along that line of thought.

We are still in a pandemic guys, and sad for  those who didn't have to worry about spending on the 9.9 sale because they have nothing to spend. They have little moolah to splurge on luxuries and pampering.

Buy all you want if you have the money, but show a little consideration by not flaunting them all over social media.

Korean Netizens’ Criticism Of A Filipina TikToker Sparks #CancelKorea Backlash

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"Bella Poarch is a popular social media influencer with over 15 million followers on TikTok and 2 million followers on Instagram. In a recent video, a tattoo that incorporates Japan’s Rising Sun flag can be seen on her arm.

This flag is associated with Japanese imperialism, as well as Japan’s actions in World War II. It remains particularly offensive in South Korea due to Imperial Japan’s treatment of Korea while the country was under its colonial rule.

As such, Korean netizens have taken offense to Bella Poarch’s tattoo and pointed out why it’s problematic."

Bella already said she wanted to take action first by removing it before doing a formal apology, but some stupid Koreans choose to send death threats and bullying her. Do you expect Filipinos to just watch?

Bella asked for forgiveness, yet the Koreans remained toxic.

Is it time to put down our lightsticks ang raise our flag?

There are Korean racists calling us "uneducated and small" because we are Filipino. They even had the audacity to insult our skin color. I'm Filipino before I became a KPop fan. I will raise my flag no matter what!

And now toxic Koreans were saying that Filipinos were poor and uneducated?

Even if I like KPop, their attitude is not acceptable. Bellitling Filipinos isn't right.
Don't call Filipinos uneducated when many Korean leave their own country to study the English language here in the Philippines, basically for close to free compared to the expensive studies at their own country.

They call Filipinos dumb? At least we don't pay for private tutors to teach us basic english for traveling. Filipinos are good speakers and multilingual.

Let's bring back history!

The Philippines was the first Asian country that sends combat troops just to protect Korea.

Please do remember that the 10th Battalion Filipino Soldiers' hold on Yultong was the turning point of the Korean war when South Korea was losing against communist-backed North Korea.

Without the Philippines, SK would've been a communist country by now. Be grateful SK!

Maybe we should also remind them that the Philippines is one of their biggest fanbase in Asia, thus helping their economy grow.

Filipinos have been fans of KPop personalities. We adore their cultures, music and talent. In return, are they just going to treat us like garbage? We don't deserve this type of treatment.

Imagine koreans calling us Filipinos ugly and uneducated. Who's gonna tell them University of the Philippines outranked Harvard and Oxford last year in terms of higher education and we have 187 languages and we don't need plasticsurgery to be beautiful with a heart.

Sandara Park is a pure blooded Korean who stayed here for 13 years and I salute her because she is always defending the Philippines against Koreans because she knows about the life and traits of Pinoys and she knows that they are all are wrong about Filipinos.

Remember when she defended the Philippines to her fellow Koreans? She said, "The people here are really gentle, I feel upset because the Korean media only reports crime."

Jin Ho Bae and Ryan Bang are pure Koreans but they love the Philippines, and mind you, Jin Ho Bae can speak Tagalog very fluently. Ryan Bang is making an effort to learn too.

Remember when Korea sent tons of garbage to the country? Their true colors are now shining through.

Sending the garbage back to its origin is only just, moral, and lawful.

But we need only to cancel the person(s) who offend us and not the whole country, Filipinos mindset is usually to judge everyone of their race is the same.
