Is DITO of Dennis Uy Getting Special Favors?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The more, the merrier it will be for Filipinos. That is, if the new player doesn't have a hidden agenda.

The House of Representatives approved on third and final reading a bill granting a 25-year franchise to the Mindanao Islamic Telephone Company Incorporated (Mislatel) or Dito Telecommunity Corporation (Dito Telecom), the country’s third major telco player owned by Dennis Uy.

Dito is composed of Uy's Udenna Corporation and publicly listed Chelsea Logistics, with Beijing-run China Telecom as its foreign partner.

Dadaan pa ito sa Senate for concurrence. The bill will be referred to the Committee on Public Services for hearings first, prior to plenary debates. I expect that the officials of the DITO Telco will be inquired about sa delays in their promise to have finally a third telco that will foster competition in ensuring faster Internet connection. So, my projection is baka tumagal ang bill sa Senate due to that, especially if hindi masagot mabuti ng mga officials ang mga tanong ukol sa delays. I hope however na masagot nila if they want their franchise to be granted.

Once allowed to operate,  Dito is expected to break the country’s telco duopoly dominated by Smart Communications owned by tycoon Manny V. Pangilinan and Globe Telecom of the Ayala Group.

But are we going to sacrifice national security for faster internet service? Congress doesn’t see this as a national security nightmare?

It is disturbing how easy China Telecom is gaining access to our market, despite all the red flags. It took only less than 3 months to reach this state, but the haste is not really important here. What is very alarming is the same country backing DITO, is the same country bullying us and grabbing our territory in WPS.

I don't understand how that could slipped from the brains of any real blood Filipino representatives.

It's also a good thing that there's more competition, because it would mean better service and more affordable rates. BUT no way to 100% foreign owned telecom companies, especially a Chinese company!

Galit na galit sa ABS-CBN, dahil ang Lopez owner ay may dual citizenship. Pero pagdating dito 100% foreign owned na telco, walang pero pero, 25 years franchise agad!

The Philippines is the place that kills the peoples' television station over foreign ownership while assigning plum telco rights to Chinese cronies. Self-dealing is official policy.

Uy was one of Duterte's biggest campaign donor. And, Duterte could be simply returning the favor. While the hearing was on going, Duterte was publicly attacking other telco firms. PM is not the key sis, presidential favor is.

Oligarchy was not dismantled, instead, another one rised.

Duterte did not dismantle oligarchy. He just threatens non-donors, expels critics from the arena, and makes room for oligarchs of his own. The DDS public might not accept this reality (they might not even understand it) but it is more than real. Deal with it.

Take time to look up Dennis Uy's background and how he rose into power in less than 10 years.

To say that I was surprised with the 270 lawmakers who overwhelmingly voted for the 25-year franchise of Dito TelCo by the Davao-based businessman Dennis Uy is an understatement!

DITO was granted franchise to operate to be the 3rd telco on July 2019 on the following conditions:

1. To build 2500 cell towers by July 2020, or in 1 year's time.
2. Within the same period to cover at least 37% of the population with average minimum internet speed of 27 mbps.
3.Over a 5 year period, to cover 84% of the country and offer internet speed of at least 55mbps
4. To post a $500 Million performance bond to guarantee these undertakings, equivalent to Php 25 Billion.

Uy missed the 1st two undertakings, leading to his missing the 3rd and the forfeiture of the 4th, i.e., his performance bond. What happened? Instead of building his own cell towers, he pushed NTC to come up with the common tower policy forcing telcos to share their cell towers, which meant giving Uy a free ride because he has none.

What is clear is, Uy has not been able to transmit even a single text message to the Filipino public. So, why would the President wants to expropriate Globe and Smart? So he could hand over their operations to Uy?

But also remember when Telstra was supposed to open shop here in the Philippines (allegedly backed by the past administration)? It would have been our saviour too but Globe and Smart blocked their franchise application to continue the duopoly in digital communication and telephony. Imho, people here shitting on DITO because of their owner’s close ties with the current president, even if it is going to promote competition and probably better services from all telcos so you can upload your Tiktok videos faster.

So ano ba taga ang position ko on this matter? Am I for or against this new telco?

Well, kahit ako confused because of several issues haunting the presence of this Telco...and how poor our current telcos are performing.

LTO to issue driver’s licenses with 10-year validity by 2021; exclusive to motorists with no traffic violations

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Starting October 2021, drivers with clean records with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) will be able to enjoy “premium” license cards, as the agency will roll out new licenses with ten-year validity.

In a press briefing Thursday, 19 August 2020, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante said that the issuance of licenses with 10-year validity is in line with the implementation of a provision in Republic Act No. 10930, signed into law in 2017.

The law states, “Except for student permits, all drivers' licenses shall be valid for five years reckoned from the birthdate of the licensee, unless sooner revoked or suspended: Provided, however, that subject to Section 26 hereof, any holder of a professional or nonprofessional driver's license who has not committed any violation of Republic Act No. 4136 and other traffic laws, rules and regulations during the five-year period shall be entitled to a renewal of such license for 10 years, subject to the restrictions as may be imposed by the LTO.”

With this, the LTO devised a new point system, wherein drivers will accumulate demerit points for each violation committed and earn incentives for drivers with good standing.

Under the point system, a motorist accumulates “demerit points” depending on the gravity of his or her violation. These violations are classified according to their corresponding categories: grave for five points; less grave for three points; and light for one point.

In the said press briefing, Asec. Galvante emphasized that the examples of grave violations are driving a motor vehicle in the commission of crime, operating a colorum vehicle, and driving under the influence. However, the LTO chief clarified that less grave or light violations may also be considered as grave, if violations are committed repeatedly.

Further, the driver’s license of an erring motorist may be suspended if he/she will accumulate 10 demerit points, while earning 40 points will result in its revocation.

Violations committed by motorists will be uploaded or recorded in the LTO’s system. Asec. Galvante shared that the license holder will also be notified of the committed violations, which will be the basis of issuing a new license upon renewal.

On the other hand, Asec. Galvante emphasized that the 10-year validity of driver’s licenses aims to incentivize those who strictly obey traffic laws.

“Hopefully, with this measure mababawas-bawasan ang road crashes, road or traffic incidents na nagka-cause ng injuries and even pagkamatay,” Asec. Galvante said.

“Not all license holders are entitled to this privilege. For those who have clean records, you may enjoy not coming back for renewal not only for five years, but ten years. That is if you are not delinquent,” the LTO chief added.

VP Leni Robredo filling the void left by the "perpetually isolated" President

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In just 20 minutes, VP Leni Robredo was able to lay down plans on how to address the pandemic. She has once again inspired all of us. That’s what we need — Effective, efficient & coherent leadership. Everything’s just clear, genuine & encouraging. And lastly, hindi tayo pinupuyat.

I love how gave her address:

1. Primetime hindi midnight
2. Straight to the point, backed by data with proposed solutions
3. No blaming, finger pointing, cursing, red tagging nor threats.

Bakit ang hirap makiusap kay Duterte na maging ganto??

The message was clear. Just what Filipinos need to know.

This is what the fanatics and the admin itself just can't seem to accept -- VP Leni is a LEADER! An efficient leader and a data-driven decision-maker. She didn't even have to curse even how chaotic the situation is.

VP Leni’s address was like having a nice chat with your smart, sensible mom before your drunken stepfather shows up at an ungodly hour later asking for more money then cursing you for various reasons so you'll be forced to give in due to fear.

She hit the admin right where it hurts. May mapipikon na naman.

The timing was perfect. VP Leni's speech will be juxtaposed with somebody's later.

Ok lang sa akin na mapuyat, as long as I hear sensible plans from my leader. Kaso, matutulog ka na lang ay stress pa aabutin mo. Imagine yung lasenggo mong kapitbahay na dating sa tambayan mo lang nakikita, napapanood mo na ngayon sa TV.

I never heard any encouraging words from those in power, sa kanya lang.

Just listening to VP, nagka pag-asa ako at bumalik tiwala ko. 20 minutes lang yan. We need a TRUE & sensitive leader now.

I won’t say that she inspired “all of us”. There are still a lot of DDS out there who won’t know inspiring even if it bit them in the a$$.

VP Leni’s set design throwing major shade. One is the Constitution, and the other is “The Intangibles that Make a Nation Great” by Senate President Jovito Salonga, probably our finest statesman and opposition leader to Marcos. Another book is Thinking Beyond Politics: A Strategic Agenda for the Next President! I can't recognize the fourth one. Maybe it's "I'm Coming For Ya, Bitch". Just a wild guess.

She outlined every possible good action to take not just from the health standpoint but everything else. Given the pride of Malacanang, they will be eschewing everything she suggested. With not much good actions left, they will just resort to what's bad.

As she spoke, one could already visualize the roadmap if the recommendations were adopted.

Over & above what she said, one got the sense of someone in control, inspired confidence & more importantly, she assured that we are not on our own.

A brilliant chess move, indeed. All the king’s men are now in crisis mode, trying to rouse the man up. They have no choice - a pre-recorded message is a death knell. We can expect a grouchier-than-usual old man later. Or a late scratch by his minions suffused with apologies.

So we’ll see how much concern they have left for the Filipinos. If they don’t follow any of it because of pride, then it solidly proves they’re in power only for purely selfish reasons.

I love the part when she stated that what is lacking is , "timon." “Timon”, that small piece underneath the boat, but dictates the whole direction of the boat.

I'm imagining an aimless, meandering boat. And that's how exactly how this feels like.

We need a sober captain that steers it. I hope she will be our Captain, soonest!

What VP Leni did early tonight was a full masterstroke. If the madman fails to answer her tonight, it's precorded by all means. If he'll address her, Leni wrests the political initiative. It's all her show. Next time, she can ask for a peaceful transition. It's GAME OVER.

Kudos to VP Leni! Mabuhay po kayo! Your speech clearly showed the contrast! You have a plan, clarity of mind, compassion, patriotism & most importantly, leadership we seek at this time of the pandemic! Malinaw kung sino ang dapat ang mamuno!

IATF wants to get in on LGUS’ covid response programs; PCCI now wants to get in on IATF policy-making. REV GOV proponents trying to  push through extra-constitutional maneuvers .  Why don’t you ALL SIT THE F*CK DOWN AND LET LENI LEAD , ALREADY?

To borrow the words from DDS: (us to VP Leni) IKAW NA LANG MAG PRESIDENTE! Madam, please please please!
