A New Breed of Medical Heroes Are Back in the New Season of “Chicago Med” this April on Sony Channel

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Chicago’s modern-day heroes are back to save more lives in the latest season of the medical drama Chicago Med, which returns on Sony Channel this April.

In the season premiere, things turn complicated for the doctors and nurses of Chicago’s state-of-the-art trauma center as Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt) prepares to testify against his shooter after he was shot outside of the hospital. Dr. Rhodes (Colin Donnell) worries about Robin’s behavior at home after her release from a rehabilitation facility. Dr. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) confront their feelings for each other once and for all.

Meanwhile, Dr. Choi (Brian Tee) and April (Yaya DaCosta) try to conceal their new relationship at work. Dr. Bekker (Norma Kuhling) gets off on the wrong foot with Dr. Rhodes when she poaches one of his patients.

Chicago Med Season 3 premieres on April 30, and airs every Monday at 8.50pm.

Sony Channel is available on Cablelink Channel 39, Cignal Channel 120, Destiny Cable Channel 35, G Sat Channel 48, and SKYCable Channel 35.

ASEAN Data Science Explorers Kicks Off for its Second Year

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Programme by the ASEAN Foundation and SAP invites students across ASEAN to harness the power of data and deliver sound recommendations to address issues within the region

The ASEAN Foundation and enterprise software company SAP SE announced the launch of the ASEAN Data Science Explorers 2018. The programme, which is in its second year running, aims to inspire and catalyse ASEAN youth activism. It targets tertiary students across all 10 ASEAN member states to harness the power of data, gain insights by leveraging the SAP Analytics Cloud and deliver ideas or recommendations to relevant ASEAN bodies.

First introduced in 2017, the ASEAN Data Science Explorers (ADSE) is a data analytics competition that aims to enhance awareness and appreciation of the ASEAN community amongst young people through digital literacy intervention. By using the SAP Analytics Cloud platform, the initiative encourages participants to deliver data-driven insights which highlight issues in ASEAN across six United Nation Sustainable Development Goals, namely (1) good health and well-being, (2) quality education, (3) gender equality, (4) industry, innovation and infrastructure , (5) decent work and economic growth, and (6) sustainable cities and communities.

The programme will run from March to October 2018, kicking off with a series of enablement sessions organized for students and lecturers in local universities across all 10 ASEAN member states. Following the enablement sessions, the students are invited to form teams of two to register for the competition and submit their ideas. One participating team from each member state will stand a chance to be shortlisted and crowned as the national finalist before advancing to compete in the regional finals. At the highest honor of the regional finals, the 10 national finalists will be given the opportunity to present their winning ideas to a panel of judges which comprises of distinguished representatives from the ASEAN Foundation, SAP and various government or NGO organizations.

In light of Singapore’s chairmanship of ASEAN in 2018, the ASEAN Data Science Explorers 2018 regional finals will be held in Singapore, with Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) as a hosting partner. It will be held in conjunction with the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) finals, where the 10 national finalists will also be given the privilege to catch the WTA finals taking place in Singapore.

Consonant Forms, Resonant Practice

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Consonant Forms, Resonant Practice opened at the Yuchengco Museum last 17 March 2018. Winning works by women artists Ivi Avellana Cosio, Nona Garcia, Ambie Abaño, Marina Cruz, Joy Mallari, and Abi Dionisio from the Philippine Art Awards and the ASEAN Art Awards will be shown together with older and more recent pieces. Mrs. Love Marie Ongpauco Escudero graced us with her presence as she opened the exhibit with the women artists.

The Philippine Art Awards has redefined art competitions in the local context - doing away with fine arts categories to allow a breadth of visual mediums, organising cross-regional competitions, and initiating workshops on contemporary art. It has propelled the career of many artists and undoubtedly helped refine our approaches to both the production and reception of art.

The works in the exhibition share specific subject matter and themes: the body, places and vistas, and objects that allow reflection. Several of the images while rendered realistically, speak to the nature of reality itself.

Consonant Forms, Resonant Practice reflects on art competitions and women’s participation in them. While competitions like the PAA and the ASEAN Art Awards have been instrumental to the careers of many artists, they are not the main arenas where women artists develop their artistic visions. The exhibition argues for a wider latitude of art making for women artists.

The works can be viewed at the Cone Room, the Bridgeway Foyer and Gallery at the museum’s third floor until 28 April 2018.
