Globe, Cebuana Lhuillier, Mynt Sign Strategic Partnership for PH Financial Inclusion

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In a bid to further push financial inclusion in the country, Globe Telecom, Cebuana Lhuillier and Mynt inked a memorandum of agreement that will pave the way for several initiatives combining the products and services of the three companies.

The tripartite partnership was signed by Globe President & CEO Ernest Cu, Cebuana Lhuillier President & CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier, and G-Xchange President Albert Tinio. G-Xchange is a subsidiary of Globe Telecom’s wholly-owned financial services unit Mynt.

“The idea is to disrupt the traditional banking system of having to personally go to a bank, fill out forms, fall in line and pay for bills or deposit money. This initiative will create an avenue for the companies to leverage on each other’s strengths and capabilities to create a better financial system for the consumers,” said Cu.

Meanwhile, Lhuillier stated, “This undertaking is a great opportunity to address the financial concerns of many Filipinos, especially those in unbanked and underbanked communities which is very aligned to what we do as a company. I am glad that Cebuana Lhuillier, together with Globe and Mynt, is taking this big step to revolutionize the way we serve our mutual clients. I am certain that this partnership will positively impact the lives of many individuals.”

Most of the initiatives involve GCash, a micro-payment service operated by G-Xchange. Already commercially available, one of the projects allows GCash customers to perform cash-in and cash-out transactions in any of Cebuana Lhuillier’s 1,800 branches nationwide. Also being developed are systems that would enable GCash accounts to submit payments for Fuse loans and accept proceeds of international remittance. Other projects in the works include the vice versa conversion of rewards points under the loyalty programs of Globe and Cebuana Lhuillier, cross-selling of Cebuana Lhuillier’s microinsurance product, development of donation channels for Cebuana Lhuillier’s chosen beneficiaries, real-time posting of Globe Bills, reselling of Globe AMAX, a mass market postpaid product, and other innovations that that would make financial services more conveniently available.

In addition to the commercially available products and services, the partnership will also yield business-to-business solutions and other initiatives catering to internal stakeholders.

During the official announcement of the partnership, all three companies emphasized the need for innovative offerings, the value of convergence and the importance of technology in order to achieve financial inclusion.

Globe is a telecommunications company with a mobile subscriber base of about 65 million, while Cebuana Lhuillier is a micro-financial institution that has over 1,800 branches in the Philippines, and Mynt is a FinTech startup wholly-owned by Globe and offers a range of key financial services.

NEC Launches New Touchscreen POS TWINPOS G5200 Series in Philippines

Wazzup Pilipinas!

NEC Philippines today announced the launch the TWINPOS G5200 series, a new lineup of touchscreen Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals, the latest addition to the NEC TWINPOS series.

The new TWINPOS G5200 series provides an extensive lineup of standard, pole-mount, wall-mount, and other models, enabling flexibility for installation in a variety of store layouts here in the country. In addition, the use of a flat surface display avoids ingress of water drops and dust from the front of the display.

Moreover, the new series offers easy maintenance of key components such as the hard disk drive, touch panel and motherboard assembly.

The new product supports NEC’s middleware that collects operational status of the POS terminal, including accumulated operating time, CPU load and internal temperature to detect actual and impending failures. Furthermore, the middleware visualizes remaining life of key components. The information obtained by the middleware enables preventative maintenance or quick recovery from failure, which in turn reduce opportunity losses resulting from POS terminal malfunctions.

The TWINPOS G5200 series contributes to efficient chain store operations when used with NEC’s business solutions for global retailers, which comprehensively covers business needs ranging from store operations to headquarters' operations.

NEC has been assisting non-stop store operations for 11 years in the Philippines. Going forward, NEC will provide continuous support for Filipino retailers to expand their business through its Life Cycle Management (LCM) services that support every part of the life cycle from planning to development, installation, deployment, and maintenance of ICT equipment for optimized store management.

The TWINPOS G5200 series is part of the NEC Global Enterprise Solutions lineup, NEC's portfolio of continually upgraded and expanded solutions and services offered globally to enterprise customers in retail, distribution, manufacturing, and other fields.

From 9 November, three Models will be available in the Philippines. The TWINPOS G5200Ui standard model, the TWINPOS G5200Vi which allows for more shelves for displaying promotional items and customer service, and the low-profile TWINPOS G5200Ei.

“Retail is one of the fastest growing markets for NEC in the Philippines. We are pleased to launch the TWINPOS G5200 which compliments NEC’s wide-range of retail solutions that seeks to add value to retail companies that need easy-to-maintain, scalable retail solutions for operational efficiency,” said Agnes A. Gervacio, President, NEC Philippines.

Interested parties on the new TWINPOS G5200 series can get in touch with the NEC Reseller and Distributor Network or send an email to inquiry@nec.com.ph.
