Wazzup Pilipinas!
“SINING AT PROTESTA PARA SA KAAYUSAN AT PAGBABAGO”—this is the theme for this year’s annual celebration of the National Arts month for the whole country. In line with this, The Polytechnic University of the Philippines’ University Center for Culture and the Arts celebrates the Arts month by having a series of performances given by different cultural organization under it.
This year, Sining-Lahi Polyrepertory, the Resident student theater group of PUP, celebrates their 34th Theater season by adapting a Greek play written by Euripides entitled “Medea”. It was translated and given adaptation by Mr. Alvin Veneracion, an alumnus of the said group.
In the adaptation, Medea was placed in the Philippine setting where the Philippines was conquered by the Spaniards and the lead character was a Babaylan. The play demonstrated the situation of women in the Hispanic Era and how Medea differs from the other women in the society before.
It will be staged at the PUP Theater located at the College of Communications, Sta. Mesa Manila on March 2-4, 2015 at 10:00am, 2:30pm and 6:00pm.
