Comedy Cartel Presents the Finals of the Laugh & Stack Open Mic Showdown

Comedy Cartel, the pioneers of observational point-of-view stand-up comedy in the Philippines, finally brings you the culminating event of a one of a kind year-long competition that will discover the best of the best from the local comedians.

Your friendly neighborhood pambansang blogger is proud to have been invited as one of the esteemed guests to witness a night of fun and definitely lots of laughter. I will also be inviting some of my friends to join me as this is an event intended to be shared with everyone. Laughter is so very much contagious and we intend to cause an epidemic of epic proportions.

After having 15 legs, held at four venues, and 36 participants, the Comedy Cartel's Laugh & Stack Open Mic Showdown will now have its Grand Finals on November 22, 2014 at the Relik Tapas Bar & Lounge at Bonifacio Global City (BGC).

The top ten winners namely Winer Aguilar, Miguel Alejandrino, Chris Bacula, Chip Balbuena, Bill Beatty, Rene Cruz, Jr., Sherwin Cunanan, Ros Fajardo, Jethro Trogo, and Hugh Vincent will battle it out for the grand title of Laugh & Stack Open Mic Showdown Champion. As part of AMD’s 2015 AMD Mobile APU family roadmap, the company AMD today at its Future of Compute event announced the addition of its first high performance system-on-a-chip (SoC), codenamed “Carrizo”, and a mainstream SoC codenamed “Carrizo-L.”

These new 2015 AMD Mobile APUs are designed as complete solutions for gaming, productivity applications, and ultra high-definition 4K experiences in collaboration with hardware and software partners. With support for Microsoft DirectX 12, OpenCL 2.0, AMD’s Mantle API, AMD FreeSync and support for Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 10 operating system, the 2015 AMD Mobile APU family enables the experiences consumers expect.

John Byrne, senior vice president and general manager, Computing and Graphics business group of AMD said they will continue to innovate and build upon their existing IP to deliver great products for their customers. “AMD’s commitment to graphics and compute performance, as expressed by our goal to improve APU energy efficiency 25x by 2020, combines with the latest industry standards and fresh innovation to drive the design of the 2015 AMD Mobile APU family. We are excited about the experiences these new APUs will bring and look forward to sharing more details in the first half of next year” he adds.

A special documentary narrated by American actor Edward Norton and starrred by world-famous basketball star Yao Ming, presented by WildAid and Discovery Channel expose the African poaching epidemic, which fuels a multi-billion-dollar global black market.

The one-hour feature documentary premieres on Friday, November 21 at 9:00 p.m., exclusively on Discovery Channel.

Background on the crisis and the demand that fuels it

Each year, the death toll rises with 25,000 African elephants murdered last year alone, and 4.5 million killed in the last 60 years. These magnificent creatures are victims of ivory poaching, perpetrated by one of the most organized, widespread wildlife trafficking networks in history. The growing demand in China and Southeast Asia is driving sharp increases in poaching.

In China, ivory is prized as a status symbol by the nation’s growing affluent and middle classes, and the country’s legal market perpetuates demand and provides a laundering mechanism for illegal, poached ivory from Africa. Rhino horn is highly sought after for purported health benefits. In Vietnam, rhino horn has a reputation as a cancer treatment and a hangover cure regardless of the fact that the horn is composed of keratin – the same substance as human hair and fingernails.
