It's Not About Winning...

Wazzup Pilipinas!

One of the much-awaited parts of students in their school year is the upcoming activities that will be done throughout the year. These are the culminating events and competitions where it is the time we can outshine and excel through our capacities and abilities that can qualify and compete with those of others.

Last December 17-18, 2013 we held our Business Fair led and set by our beloved teacher, Ms. Em and together with her committee. This event was made for our subject Economics that happened to be our project for the Third Quarter, so everyone was dedicated upon their businesses.

Every section has their own classification to remember, we have Boyle for their pizza; Copernicus for their burger with a twist; Goldstein for their street foods; Joule for their carbonara; Lewis for their nachos ; Marx for their sweets; and at last turon for my section, Berzelius. We also have different ways and marketing strategies to encourage people to buy and purchase our products. Many used their popularity, appeal, and of course their appearance.

Are You Earthquake-Proof? Sharing Some Sensible Steps to Safety

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Natural disasters happen all over the world and this can cause devastation to our lives and properties in which we live. We all know that natural disasters are caused by nature and we cannot do anything to prevent it from hitting us. But, we can learn about its causes and the things we need to know to be more prepared when such disasters come.

Earthquake is one type of a natural disaster. According to Wikipedia, earthquake is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves. The movements of the plates in the earth’s crust cause them. These plates do not always move smoothly and can get stuck, causing a build-up of pressure. It is when this pressure is released that an earthquake occurs. In turn, an earthquake under the water can also cause a tsunami, as the quake causes great waves by pushing large volumes of water to the surface.

Flooding in the Philippines: Nature’s Wrath or Man-made Repercussions.

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Typhoon Yolanda… Ondoy… Habagat… These three caused so much flooding in the Philippines that destroyed not only material things but had also taken away so many lives. Whose fault is it? What this brought by nature or by our own selfish desires?

In cases like those mentioned above, the story of Noah where it rained for 40 days and 40 nights always come to my mind. After the rain nothing was left except for those people and animals that stayed in the ark. When the flood subsided, they saw the rainbow- a symbol of God’s promise that He’ll never again let such thing happen to the world.

The story made me a firm believer that the flood we experienced are man-made and at the same time nature’s wrath but it will never be God’s desire. We took advantage of the wealth of our environment. We abuse it through illegal logging, development of subdivisions and our consumerist way of thinking. We forgot our responsibility so in the end nature takes its own course.
