Government Implement Bicycle Lanes On Our Streets

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Biking is considered one of the more known recreational activities in our generation. Not to mention all its health benefits such as, all-around muscle strengthening, and calorie burning. Large bicycle races started in the 1890s and from then biking has become a well-known sport.

Filipino cyclists have urged the government and the MMDA to put up bike lanes, and not soon after, the MMDA supported the notion of the cyclists. Under Tolentino’s helm, MMDA promoted the use of bicycles among commuters by putting up several bike lanes in Manila, Makati, and Marikina, and Quezon City.

When God Meets Caesar: Mixing Religion and Politics

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Religion and Politics are well known as two opposing forces, each with different roots and backgrounds which makes them virtually incompatible. Religion focuses on moral laws that gives great emphasis to humanity, while Politics focuses entirely on civil rights and governance of a human community. In a way, they are closely related, but the two are just not meant to coexist with each other.

When we hear the word “Religion”, we think about the Catholic Church formed by Jesus Christ which worships God. Although, there are many other religions which are similar to Catholicism. But since the Philippines is mostly a Catholic country, the Catholic Church is the well-known foe of Philippine Politics.

The Catholic Church is mostly rooted on the Bible, a collection of texts which tells a story of how God rules over all things, and how He shows His unconditional love to mankind. His son, Jesus Christ, is portrayed as the ultimate epitome of humanity, performing miracles and preaching the word of God which aims to send the good news of Eternal Life following an earthly life of humanity.

The Philippines is Not Earthquake-Proof

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Philippines islands are situated on the western fringes of the Pacific Ring of Fire where earthquake is very frequent. Earthquake is the sudden movement of the ground. It is a very desructive calamity. It can destroy that strongest building just by shaking the ground. It could also be the most dangerous and deadly force of nature because it happens when we least expect it. No one could ever predict its forthcoming. Earthquakes is caused by Plate Tectonics, Intraplate Earthquakes, Volcanic Earthquakes, or Foreshocks and Aftershocks.

In the Philippines, there are around 20 earthquakes registered daily, though they are too weak to be felt. The last major earthquake was in Bohol on Tuesday morning, October 23, 2013. Its very heartbreaking to know that this earthquake caused the death toll to rise to almost hundred people. The tremor also injured hundreds and smashed one of the country’s oldest churches. Old churches are the treasure of the Philippines. These churches were made hundreds years ago and had been a part of our history. Even part of the Chocolate Hills which is the very famous tourist spot of Bohol collapsed.

Earthquakes can take a lot of life. It can strike anytime without even a single warning. You are lucky if you have survived this disaster but you will have to endure its aftermath. Houses were shattered, roads were damaged, food and water supply were cut down. All that was left is your faith in God. In this situation, we have to learn to be creative and resourceful. Be strong and don’t let your worries affect you. Someone will come and rescue you.
