Manila International Book Fair Marks New Milestones

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Books will continue to be a part of our lives despite the proliferation of e-books which can easily be accessed online over the Internet through your Internet-enabled smartphones or tablets.

The feeling of holding a book in your hands and turning the page one after another after you've read a page, anticipating the succeeding possible turn of events, and sometimes holding your breath awaiting for the next outcome - like that in reading a suspense thriller or a romantic novel, could not be replaced by an e-book.

Many are saying books will eventually disappear but I don't believe it because books still hold that precious and irreplaceable value of being a personal possession with sentimental value. Unlike tablets that will eventually be replaced by a new more powerful model almost every year, books (if well taken care of) can be your priceless most-valued possession that you can keep and proudly display among other great books in your mini-library at home.

The Manila International Book Fair (MIBF), the biggest and longest running book fair in the Philippines, has certainly gone a long way over the past three decades in bringing books a lot closer to book lovers and collectors in the country.

Million People March to Scrap Pork Barrel

Wazzup Pilipinas!
"We Appreciate the fact that the President has responded to the public clamor to abolish the PDAF. However, the altternative package of still allowing the Congressmen and Senators to identify sponsored projects to be funded, albeit as line items in the annual budget, continues to leave MONEY within the grasp of conniving and corrupt public officials. In effect, this merely shifted the timeframe upon when these projects are identified and approved. Therefore, the PORK BARREL REMAINS!

We pursue our call for completely abolishing the Pork Barrel. Let our legislators just legislate."
This is the reason why a great number of people continued to troop towards Luneta to join the Million People March. The complete scrapping of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or pork barrel is what majority of the people wants. Its what everyone deserves.

But when you read statements like these below, I'm not really so sure the pork barrel will really get scrapped. It might just get reborn with another name:

Tomorrow night at Route 196, it is time to dance to the funky beats of Cosmic Love, Sinyma, Pinoy Stories and the Jeffrey Zulueta Experience.

The party starts at 9 PM and ends until the sun rises.

It is indeed true to work hard and party harder.
