Shared Stories : Hear. Listen. Understand

Wazzup Pilipinas!

“Shared Stories: Hear. Listen. Understand.”
(a campaign against against Ethnocentrism) on August 9, 2013 -- the international day of the world's indigenous peoples.

The event is a celebration of stories using different media. They will have acoustic performances by independent artists, poetry/letter reading and photo exhibit centered on the theme of telling your stories or sharing your back story. In the same way that you get to know a person and understand them fully only when you have learned about their stories, they believe that it is through hearing and understanding the stories of the indigenous people here in the Philippines that they can begin to appreciate and respect how truly unique and beautiful their culture is.

After all the stories shared through music or reading, the program shall culminate with the launch of the video that tells the stories of the people they met in their communities. This is in the hopes of driving their message that ending descrimination starts with understanding; and listening to the stories of our indigenous brothers and sisters is a small step towards understanding towards ending ethnocentrism.

This is brought to you by TriboCo. Kultura Kamp.

Chito Miranda and Neri Naig Video : Leaked by Own Son?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

This has yet to be confirmed! But it's all over social media already and people are asking if its real or just a deliberate fake designed to confused us with the issues. It may just be a hoax trying to make fun of the sex video scandal of Parokya Ni Edgar vocalist Chito Miranda and Star Circle's former talent Neri Naig.

Who's laughing? Well I'm not! I'm practically shocked that a son, his own flesh and blood, could have the guts and the hatred to shame his own father in public.

Has family values gone so bad already in the Philippines because of the advancement in liberal thinking? Has our youth become rebels and immature brats? or is Chito Miranda guilty of a crime that even his own son couldn't stomach?

Is Chito Miranda a victim or is he the real reason why the world has seen his shame? Karma perhaps?

Crowdsourcing Using Social Media

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It's great to hear that our politicians are now actively pusing for the use of social media to get feedbacks and suggestions form the common people. Social media is indeed a powerful medium where many elements for a successful implementation of new directives from the simple guidelines to the most complex laws could easily get the much needed consultation from the masses.

After all, the primary stakeholders are the people themselves so it is but natural to get their opinions, may it be harsh violent reactions, or calm and reserved feedbacks. I believe the making of plans, final decisions and everything else that mainly concerns the people should not be confined to the offices of our politicians whether lawmakers or implementers. It should be submitted for the approval of the majority.

It's just like the problem we are having right now with regards to the new traffic schemes being implemented by the MMDA and the local governments of Manila. The authorities should have put themselves in the shoes of the people and what the ordinary commuters and drivers will experience from the abrupt changes.

Yeah, we may have eased the traffic on our roads....but what's the point if the commuters just get stranded along nowhere and could not even get to their respective destinations. I would rather choose to suffer in a traffic jam (at least I'm seated comfortably) rather than finding my luck getting a ride along with thousands of irritated commuters all sweaty and dirty with smoke and dust. Some of us may even get "lucky" and get robbed by a pickpocket or a snatcher.
