A study from iPrice has found that people at least spend an average of 109 minutes a day on social media and have an average of 5 social media accounts. Astonishing, isn’t it?

With social media playing such a big role in many people’s lives, there are bound to be effects on society, be it positive or negative. So here are a few major effects that social media has on one’s life:

With social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, people find it so much easier now to be updated with the news as well as the latest trends. The social media platforms make it easy for users to learn about the main idea of a news story (and they can research more about it later on if they wish) or to even get immediate updates about a local disaster. Any frequent user of Facebook would be pleased to know that the social media site has launched a Safety Check service. This service allows people to notify their friends and family that they are safe, if there is human conflict or a natural disaster occurring in their nearby vicinity.

As it is so easy to just share things on social media, NGOs can easily use social media to promote welfare activities or to even ask for donations. Not only that, social media platforms can even be used to create awareness that can be beneficial to others. As the platforms are always free and easy to use, social media gives everyone the chance to voice their own opinions about a subject, allowing everyone to view things from different perspectives. It also allows people to be more aware of the various issues around the globe, making people smarter and better informed.

While bullying isn’t something new, social media and the Internet have definitely changed it over the years. Many years ago, before the appearance of social media, bullying would take place at schools or in neighborhoods. But these days, you don’t have to be near someone in order to bully them. In fact, social media has made it easy for people to bully others even if they are half way around the world. So acts must a person do in order for it to be considered as bullying on social media? As Facebook is the most common platform for bullying to occur on, actions like commenting negatively on a person’s pictures, posting abusive posts on a user’s wall or even making pictures/videos to make fun of another user can be considered as bullying.

Like with almost anything in life, there will be good sides and bad sides to social media. However, the pros definitely do outweigh the cons in this situation. It can definitely help people feel closer to other parts of the world as well as give any individual a wider perspective on the diverse mix of issues and views from around the world.

Honda Showcases the New HR-V MUGEN Prototype at the 6th PIMS

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI), Honda’s automobile business unit, shows off an even sportier New HR-V MUGEN prototype at the 6th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS).

In line with Honda’s Joyful Future Journeys theme, the new accessorized prototype for Honda’s Crossover Compact SUV is exhibited to reflect Honda’s constant development and innovation to provide products that will be appreciated by the Philippine market.

The New HR-V MUGEN prototype boasts an even bolder athletic appeal with additional cosmetic upgrades from the current HR-V 1.8 EL MUGEN. The New HR-V MUGEN prototype is designed with a New MUGEN Front Grille, New 17-inch Alloy Wheels, New MUGEN Side Stripe Sticker, and a Modified Tailgate Spoiler. To complete its aggressive sporty look, it retains the current HR-V 1.8 EL MUGEN’s Front Under Spoiler, Side Under Spoiler, Rear Under Spoiler, and MUGEN Emblem.

The interior design of the New HR-V MUGEN prototype retains the same “Expansive Cockpit” concept, which consists of a high deck console that attributes not only to its coupe like stance, but also to its wide and spacious front row. The New HR-V MUGEN also showcases generous cargo space, and flexible ULT seats that allows for different configurations depending on the customer’s needs:

Replete with striking details such as its aggressively raked A-pillar, the finely sculpted grill and LED lighting assemblies, short overhangs, a floating roof side line which is accentuated by the stylishly blacked out D-pillar, and 18-inch wheels in the top trim, the exterior is undeniably Mazda.

The new CX-3’s driver-oriented interior appropriately echoes its dynamic exterior. Similar to the high-end finish, and uncompromised build-quality, found in the rest of Mazda’s new-generation models, the new CX-3 does not scrimp when it comes to cabin amenities. Soft-to-the-touch panels with rich suede trimmings metallic and piano black accents line the cabin. A 7-inch touchscreen monitor housing the MZD-CONNECT infotainment system highlights the classy dash while the Active Driving Display HUD sits atop the meter cluster of the Sport and AWD Activ variants. With a torque output of 192Nm coming in fully as low as 2,800 rpm, linear and powerful acceleration is guaranteed further ensuring an enjoyable experience behind the wheel. Similar to other new-generation Mazda vehicles, fuel economy has not been sacrificed in the name of performance. The new CX-3’s i-STOP engine idle-stop system helps keep gasoline consumption in check.

For those who refuse to be constrained by the limits of the road, the high-end AWD Activ variant of the new CX-3 features Mazda’s very own i-ACTIV All Wheel Drive system. This is the first all-wheel drive system to be employed in the sub-compact crossover segment. Like the CX-5 and CX-9 Sport Utility Vehicles, the new CX-3 AWD Activ’s capability to traverse varying road conditions is greatly enhanced thereby taking the Jinba Ittai, horse-and-rider-as-one, driving experience beyond the confines of the road.

As with all new-generation Mazda vehicles, the new CX-3 benefits from a rigid, yet light, SKYACTIV BODY and CHASSIS structure. Both contribute to the crossover’s lively driving performance and notable fuel-efficiency. Along with active and passive safety systems such as Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), front, side and curtain airbags and standard 3-point seatbelts, the new CX-3 forms a complete and fully loaded package that confidently and stylishly puts it a class above its peers.

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Reveals its 6th PIMS Line-up and AlDub Brand Ambassadors

The country’s grandest biennial international motor show will again wow the public as the Chamber of the Automotive Manufacturers of Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) announced the staging of the 6th Philippines International Motor Show (PIMS). From September 14 to 18, car enthusiasts and the whole family will have a chance to see a wide display of the latest and future models in the automotive scene. The 6th PIMS is happening at the World Trade Center and ticket price is only one hundred pesos (P100). 

Their special guests are Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza aka Yaya Dub who are their brand ambassadors. The two, best known as AlDub, got a loud cheer from the audience as many flocked the Mitsubishi display area upon hearing AlDub were confirmed coming.

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) will surely provide an exciting and uniquely interesting pavilion as it showcases a display of its latest models, future models and a concept car. MMPC would like to give the public a feel of an international motor show by featuring models that made their world premieres at international motor shows abroad. There will be a ten car display at the main pavilion including a cut-away model of the Outlander PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle) and the XM Concept. The latest medium and heavy duty Fuso trucks will also be previewed during the show at the outdoor display area. Isuzu Philippines Corporation Dazzles 6th PIMS Crowd with 2017 D-MAX and Derek Ramsey

The latest models from Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) serve as one of the main attractions in the most significant exhibition organized this year by the country’s premier automotive industry group—the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI).

Taking the most prominent spot on Isuzu’s display floor at the 6th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS), which runs from September 14 to 18 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, is the 2017 Isuzu D-MAX, which IPC officially unveiled to much acclaim a few days prior to the motoring spectacle. At PIMS, the upgraded version of Isuzu’s popular pickup truck model duplicates its drawing power among consumers and auto enthusiasts alike.

The 2017 Isuzu D-MAX is characterized by numerous exterior styling changes that make the model look more muscular and modern, thanks to bolder hood, grille and bumpers, as well as LED Daytime Running Lamps, a tailgate with spoiler shape design and larger 18-inch alloy wheels fitted with 255/60 tires. The pickup’s interior was also refreshed with new electroluminescent instrument meters, colored multi-information display, passive entry with push-button engine start/stop function, and a gear indicator readout for the manual transmission variants. Besides the equipment upgrade, adding to the 2017 Isuzu D-MAX’s star quality is its new brand ambassador—sportsman, actor, model and host Derek Ramsay.

“The list of features available on the 2017 Isuzu D-MAX ensures that the pickup model become even more capable than it already was in its previous versions. It guarantees the Isuzu D-MAX’s advantage over the competition in the pickup truck segment by making the vehicle more appealing, and a true reflection of the values that have made Mr. Derek Ramsay such a popular personality. Like Mr. Ramsay, the Isuzu D-MAX is handsome, athletic, family-oriented and very socially responsible,” IPC President Hajime Koso said during Isuzu’s well-attended presentation at PIMS.


Three versions of the 2017 Isuzu D-MAX are displayed at Isuzu’s expansive floor space at PIMS—a 4x4 LS A/T in standard specifications and Obsidian Gray color, a Venetian Red 4x4 LS A/T that has a lifted ride height and is decked out in various off-road accessories, and a Splash White 4x2 LS M/T in special X-Series Edition. Boosting Isuzu’s PIMS attraction are two units of the mu-X premium SUV. The first variant is a mu-X 4x2 LS-A A/T in stunning Limited Edition package and Garnet Red color while the other is a standard specification mu-X 4x2 LS-A M/T painted in elegant Silky Pearl White.

Apart from IPC’s display in World Trade Center’s main hall, Isuzu truck models are also on exhibit at a special outdoor venue. Drawing show goers to the area are an Isuzu NPR 4x2 Double Cab and Chassis light-duty truck, and a CYZ51M dump truck and EXR Tractor Head with a chrome bumper, which are both designed for heavy-duty applications. The appearance of the commercial truck models in IPC’s exhibition in PIMS underscores the Isuzu brand’s capacity to deliver relevant vehicle products and services to any automotive market segment.

These represented the most significant changes made to the model since it was introduced in 2007.

Peugeot Brings Unparalleled Driving Sensations at the 2016 PIMS

Peugeot Philippines will be showcasing its rich motorsports heritage as well as its full vehicle line-up available for test drive at the 2016 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS).

To celebrate PEUGEOT’S motorsports heritage, two custom-built PEUGEOT 208 GTi’s will be on display. The first is inspired by the PEUGEOT 208 T16 Pikes Peak, which made its victorious debut at the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Combining a light body weight with a twin-turbo V6 engine, the PEUGEOT 208 T16 has a total power output of 887hp. “The PEUGEOT 208 T16 proves PEUGEOT’S dedication to motorsports excellence. It has shattered records and is regarded as one of the best rally cars to date,” Dasig said.

The second custom-built PEUGEOT 208 GTi is a participating vehicle in one of the country’s biggest racing events of the year: The 2016 Targa Manila.

Targa Manila will be the first premium car rally powered by PEUGEOT Philippines. The All-New BR-V, which aptly stands for “Bold Runabout Vehicle”, was conceived from the “Advanced Scene Hunter” grand concept, an idea that underscores confidence and boldness in embarking on new adventures with family and friends, wherever the destination may be. It is achieved through the All-New BR-V’s bold stance, high ground clearance, sleek body, and premium driving feel. Honda R&D Asia Pacific Co., Ltd. developed the All-New BR-V through extensive market research to cater to the Filipino family’s taste for style, practicality, and adventure. The All-New BR-V will come in two variants—the 1.5 S CVT variant and the 1.5 V Navi CVT top variant. 


BOLD STANCE, TOUGH LOOK

The All-New BR-V exudes a remarkable masculine design through a host of exterior garnishes inspired by the “Active-Solid Motion” exterior design concept. Englishman Ian Wright, the most travelled man on the planet, has been the face of travel TV for two decades. He is best known for hosting GLOBE TREKKER and INVITE MR WRIGHT.

Before presenting GLOBE TREKKER, Ian spent three months in Guyana with Operation Raleigh, a Prince's Trust initiative, traveling in a self-made bamboo raft down uncharted rivers.

He spent three months in Egypt, seven months traveling around India and Nepal, and six months traveling around Europe including Poland and Romania.

After leaving art school, his 'odd jobs' included working as a cycle courier and making and selling crafts, jewellery and homemade jams at Spitafields Market in East London. He currently lives near here with his wife and family. To relax, Ian enjoys playing football, eating out, and going for walks in the English countryside.
