Wazzup Pilipinas!?
As the summer season approaches, the Municipality of Mambajao, the capital of Camiguin Island, has taken a significant step to ensure the safety and security of both residents and tourists. On February 27, 2025, Mambajao activated its local 911 emergency hotline, becoming the first next-generation 911-enabled command center in the Northern Mindanao region.
This state-of-the-art emergency response system allows for swift and accurate reactions to emergencies, with all calls in Mambajao now routed directly to the command center and answered by responders within seconds. The implementation of this system has reduced response times to just 3 to 5 or 7 minutes, ensuring timely assistance during critical situations.
The activation ceremony, held at the Mambajao Operation Center in Lakas Poblacion, was led by Mayor Yñigo Jesus Romualdo and Congressman Jurdin Jesus Romualdo. Mayor Romualdo expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Finally, we have this next-generation advanced 911 system for emergency response and assistance. It's really here, and it's really happening. Our plan for the municipality is turning into reality, one by one."
The new system boasts advanced features such as precise caller location, the ability to send photos and videos, CCTV interoperability, and auto transcription that converts recorded or live audio into text within minutes. These enhancements provide actionable data to better serve the community.
Mambajao's commitment to safety aligns with the Department of the Interior and Local Government's (DILG) call for local chief executives to support the implementation of the 911 system for faster and more efficient emergency responses. With the advanced emergency response system in place, both residents and visitors can feel secure, knowing that assistance is just a call away.
As tourism picks up, Mambajao offers a plethora of attractions for visitors. From the serene Agohay Beach, known for its clean volcanic sand and fresh air, to the majestic Katibawasan and Tuasan Falls, nature enthusiasts have much to explore. Additionally, the Tangub Hot Spring in Naasag provides a unique experience where warm volcanic waters meet the sea, ideal for scuba diving.
For accommodations, Mambajao offers a variety of options. Airbnb listings show that peak seasons, particularly in April, May, and December, see occupancy rates reaching 33.81%, with average daily rates around $62.19. Travelers are advised to book in advance to secure their preferred lodging.
With the new 911 system operational, visitors can have peace of mind, knowing that emergency services are readily accessible. This advancement not only enhances the safety of residents but also boosts Mambajao's appeal as a tourist destination, ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience for all.
