Over 12 Million Kilos of Recyclables Collected in 2024
Every first Friday and Saturday of the month, SM Supermalls transforms into a thriving sustainability hub through its nationwide ‘Trash to Cash’ (TTC) recycling market, where individuals can exchange recyclable waste for cash. This groundbreaking initiative is part of SM Supermalls’ Waste-Free Future campaign, a long-standing program that has been empowering communities since 2007 by promoting waste segregation, recycling, and environmental responsibility while also offering financial incentives.
Now held across 87 SM malls nationwide, the TTC program provides a convenient and accessible platform for shoppers, tenants, and local communities to actively participate in sustainable waste management. By ensuring that recyclables are properly sorted and repurposed, the initiative plays a vital role in strengthening the circular economy, aligning with SM Supermalls’ deep-rooted commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible business practices.
Encouraging Sustainable Habits with Tangible Impact
The impact of TTC has been nothing short of remarkable. In 2024 alone, the initiative successfully collected over 12 million kilograms of recyclables, generating a total of ₱28 million in earnings for participants. This is equivalent to saving 204,000 trees if all recyclable waste collected were paper or reducing 18,000 tons of carbon emissions if all recyclable waste were plastic.
But more than just a recycling initiative, TTC is a movement—one that enables individuals, organizations, and businesses to turn sustainability into an opportunity. By making environmental responsibility rewarding, SM Supermalls has transformed the way communities view waste management, proving that small, consistent efforts can create a lasting impact.
“TTC is more than just a recycling program—it’s a movement that enables communities to turn environmental responsibility into real opportunities. By participating, people not only contribute to waste reduction but also gain financial incentives, proving that sustainability can be both impactful and rewarding,”
— SM Supermalls President Steven Tan
A Community United for a Greener Tomorrow
From students and teachers weighing recyclables at SM Cares’ TTC events to employees and tenant partners bringing bags of recyclable waste, everyone plays a part in this sustainability drive.
The initiative has inspired countless individuals to embrace waste segregation, responsible disposal, and recycling as everyday habits. As a result, TTC does more than just divert waste from landfills—it fosters an environmental mindset that can be passed down to future generations.
A Call to Action: Be Part of the Change
As climate challenges continue to intensify, programs like Trash to Cash prove that small, collective actions lead to significant environmental impact. By joining TTC, individuals contribute to the fight against waste pollution, support the circular economy, and take meaningful steps toward a sustainable future.

Participating in TTC is simple and convenient, with designated drop-off points across all participating SM malls nationwide. Here’s how you can take part:
