Incidents related to firecrackers, fireworks, and indiscriminate gunfire

As of January 1, 2025, the Philippines has reported several incidents related to firecrackers, fireworks, and indiscriminate gunfire during the holiday season.


Firecracker-Related Injuries:


The Department of Health (DOH) reported 443 cases involving firecracker injuries and stray bullet victims. This includes 212 new fireworks-related injuries, with most cases involving children. 



The Philippine National Police (PNP) recorded 132 firecracker-related injuries since December 16, with the majority of cases involving children. 



Indiscriminate Firing:


The PNP logged 15 cases of indiscriminate firing during the holiday season. 


Fire Incidents:


The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported 32 fire incidents caused by firecrackers and fireworks in 2024, resulting in an estimated total damage of around PHP 210,450,029. 


Seizure of Illegal Firecrackers:


The PNP intensified its campaign against illegal firecrackers, confiscating over 520,000 pieces valued at approximately PHP 2.4 million. Among the seized items were "piccolo," "giant five star," and "pla-pla," which are prohibited due to their hazardous nature. 


A four-year-old boy lost fingers on his right hand due to a firecracker accident, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of firecracker regulations. 

Authorities continue to urge the public to adhere to safety regulations and avoid the use of illegal firecrackers to prevent further injuries and incidents.
