The healthcare system is breaking yet IATF recommends lifting travel bans to 10 countries

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

“What we have been fearing to happen has already happened. Our healthcare system can no longer handle our COVID-19 cases,” Dr. Maricar Limpin, convenor of the Healthcare Professional Alliance Against COVID-19, said.

This is true..

But the DOH and IATF are saying differently and deciding against reality...Ang pinaka-kawawa dito eh yung mga pasyente.

I hope the DoH can straighten out its figures. Kapag sila ang nagsalita, parang everything is under control. Ano ba talaga DoH?

There is no healthcare facility if there are no healthcare workers. That is the truth.

But when "talk to the people" happens, it's nothing but grown men patting themselves on the back?   Good job DOH, good job President, good job build-build-build, good job IATF,...the country handled Covid very well.  Now what???

This is the result when those who are in position fail to speak out against the root cause of the problem. Ironic since they are the doctors. They would not even speak up against the face shield requirement when it's been exposed as nothing but official racket.

Pandemic is the government's business.. Remember the reason why they dropped the ball at hindi natuloy bumili ng Pfizer vaccine nung una because of who knows? Heto pala,  medical supplies ay overpriced.. plus Sinovac needs them then.  Now more money for the government,  tapos i-oopen ang travel restrictions pala para magkaroon tayo ng Mu variant?

"President Duterte has approved the recommendation of the IATF to lift the travel restrictions on 10 countries effective September 6, 2021, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said."

The IATF recommendation is to lift current travel restrictions on India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia starting Monday, September 6.

IATF recommends to lift current travel restrictions

IATF approves granular lockdown starting with NCR, even if we’re currently at 20k+ new cases daily and 28% positivity rate.

From one stupid idea to the next! The IATF IS ON A ROLL SINCE MARCH 2020!

IATF is living up to its motto: "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result."

The IATF is a waste of time and money! They shouldn't be contemplating if we will ease quarantine classification when our country is facing 20K cases per day. Once again, it will be our healthcare industry that will immensely suffer from this!

We are losing because we are choosing economy vs health without realizing that economy will never rebound when people are sick and dying.

The government lifted travel restrictions on 10 countries..and yet the people of the Philippines need to go through a lot travel restrictions & travel requirements visiting other places in our own country.

Bakit kaya ganoon?

Are they out of their minds?

Is that a smart move considering hospitals are filled to the brim and Filipinos are asked to stay home? Welcome welcome welcome one and all to the Philippines?

It's SUICIDE!!!

The Philippine government's corruption is KILLING COVID PATIENTS.

It never stops to amass more.

Napakagaling talaga ng binoto ng taong bayan! It’s dreadful to think kung ilang matinong presidente at ilang taon ang bubunuin para lang maitama ang ginagawa ng administration na to talaga. Not to mention yung budget for 2022?! Parang wala ng consideration for COVID.

Let us learn from this mistake, vote wisely, support genuine public service.

Duterte wants to audit Red Cross which is not a part of government

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"Gusto ko talaga makita ang audit talaga ng Red Cross. And maybe I can, I will demand... the executive department will demand that we will furnish copies of your audit taken by COA and COA to give us the copy so that we can review also what you have audited at tignan namin kung tama o hindi," President Duterte said.

However, the Philippine Red Cross is not subject to a COA audit because it is not a government agency.

President Duterte demanded that the Commission on Audit (COA) should audit Philippine Red Cross, after he accused the organization's chairman and Senator Richard Gordon of using it as a "milking cow."

Duterte said Gordon was investigating the purchases of COVID-19 supplies not in aid of legislation, but to pursue his "personal political interest," adding he received news that the former was interested in running for vice president in #Eleksyon2022.

Duterte is really sick. Somebody get a psychiatrist. This president is mentally disturbed.

Also, the president always boasts his profession as a lawyer. Where now is his lucid mind, if there's any, to ask COA to audit a non-government agency? He's really swaying the public opinion just to cover up the real matters on hand.

Time to vote for leaders like Vico. Our only hope in saving this countey is to train more leaders with breeding like his.

“The Philippine government does not own the PNRC. The PNRC does not have government assets and does not receive any appropriation from the Philippine Congress.”

"Ako abogado ako. Parehas naman tayong abogado. Pumasa sa bar. Gusto mo bukas magdebate tayo!"

The Dunning-Kruger effect is a type of cognitive bias in which people believe that they are smarter and more capable than they really are. Essentially, low ability people do not possess the skills needed to recognize their own incompetence.

“Iyan ang ano ko, iyan ang—doon ako nag—naano sa… Wala talaga. Except si Roque, nagdala ng hamburger doon. I went there 10 times. The last time nga nabutas ‘yung chopper. And I spent hanggang gabi. Hindi ako pumunta doon—nagpunta ako ng hapon hanggang gabi. Iyan ang ano,”

Does Duterte know the difference of government agencies and private entities ?

Lol! Ano na Pilipinas, boboto ba tayo o bobo to? hahaha!

I audit pa natin Jollibee at Andok’s!

This should have been edited out but Bong Go probably doesn't understand that the Red Cross is an NGO and not subject to a COA audit either.

Duterte is wasting government resources with his late night shows whose content is as rubbish as… What have we done to deserve this display of idiocy?

Mga kababayan, we all know that when PDutz creates noise, he's just diverting our attention because HE'S HIDING SOMETHING that he doesn't want us to see.

The Filipino people demand COA to audit the heads of DDS. It seems that they dont have any thing inside other than their poon naseraan. lol

PLDT Enterprise powers connectivity of San Remigio, Antique

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

The Municipality of San Remigio, Antique is now enjoying top of the line high-speed fiber internet connectivity—powered by PLDT Enterprise—which boosts the municipal government’s efforts in improving public service delivery to its more than 38,000 constituents.

The business-to-business arm of the largest fully integrated telecommunications provider in the country PLDT has partnered with San Remigio Mayor Mar Mission Jr. for internet services that will support online education and deliver communications services within the province.

The municipal mayor expressed his gratitude for the telco’s assistance as it soon installs connectivity facilities in the barangays of San Remigio, as his request to PLDT Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan.

“As we all know, if the communication in an area is poor, definitely the progress will be slow too. In this modern world with modern technology, if you don’t have the means for efficient communication, definitely you are left behind,” the San Remigio mayor said.

The municipal government availed standard enterprise broadband services which are currently installed at the municipal hall that can be used by its employees and students.

With the connectivity services in place, the San Remigio mayor expressed his aspirations for the town to be paperless wherein government transactions can be done digitally. He noted that this would boost the municipality’s bid to a more sustainable province as the reduction of paper trails would equate to the conservation of more trees, improvement of waste management, and reduction of carbon footprint.

Mission expressed his gratitude to the telco company for its immediate response to his request in line with his commitment to improving the online education capabilities of the town “so that the students and teachers won't be burdened by intermittent Internet connection especially during this COVID-19 pandemic.”

Chito Franco, PLDT Enterprise Vice President for Small and MicroBiz, said that PLDT Enterprise immediately took charge in heeding to the request for connectivity in the said province as this is the foundation of digital transformation.

“It is our privilege to serve our local and municipal governments when it comes to their call for strong broadband connectivity and mobile needs. And we at PLDT Enterprise are committing our best efforts to provide them the relevant technology and enable the LGUs in their digital journey and service delivery,” said Franco.

“As we push and continue the momentum of offering solutions to LGU’s especially to far-flung areas, we would be able to help in closing the gap and promote digital literacy across the country, one LGU at a time" he added.

PLDT Enterprise has been partnering with various local government units across the country for the activation of internet connectivity facilities and services to support the online education and online businesses of their constituents.

PLDT and Smart’s push to provide connectivity for all is aligned with the group’s long-standing commitment to help the Philippines attain the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG #9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure and SDG #11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.

Catarman Airport inaugurated

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Opportunities for growth are in the province of Northern Samar as the Department of Transportation (DOTr), together with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) formally inaugurates today, 02 September 2021, the upgraded Catarman Airport.

DOTr Secretary Art Tugade led the formal opening of the improved gateway as he stressed the importance of developing and upgrading airports across the country regardless of size or capacity.

Ang development projects ‘ho ng Pangulong Duterte do not, and are not, predicated on size, nor it is predicated on [voting] population. It is predicated on the lead for development. Because development and growth apply to all,” the Transportation Chief said.

The CAAP said that prior to its upgrade, the Catarman Airport can only accommodate 50 passengers at any given time.

With the upgraded Passenger Terminal Building (PTB), the capacity of the airport has been tripled and can now accommodate 150 passengers at any given time or around 50,000 passengers annually. This significant capacity increase aims to help the whole projected 250,000 tourists and travelers coming within the region, as well as travelers from outside and nearby regions using different ports of entries once quarantine restrictions are relaxed.

Upgrades in the Catarman Airport include a new perimeter fence, a re-blocked apron pavement, and asphalt overlay and shoulder grade correction at the runway. Added improvements include the construction of a fire station building, a powerhouse, and a flight service station. The added renovation works were completed August of this year, ahead of its target completion date.

For his part, CAAP Director General Capt. Jim Sydiongco underscored the advantage of sound cooperation among government agencies and local government units to realize development projects that will boost enhanced mobility and connectivity in the country.

“Under the staunch guidance of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and with the dedicated leadership of DOTr Secretary Art Tugade, and the continued commitment of the entire DOTr, CAAP, and the LGU to improve the Catarman Airport, progress in the municipality and Northern Samar’s transport sector will continue to take flight,” DG Sydiongco said.

Meanwhile, Northern Samar 1st District Representative Paul Daza expressed his appreciation to the national government for finally upgrading the facilities of their airport.

“If you saw this airport 10 years ago, malaki po ang pinag-iba. Talagang sira-sira at ang liit. And then the big typhoons came, and we were desperate. The DOTr did not just funded the repair. There were many improvements in the airport,” Rep. Daza said.

RISE conference is returning to Hong Kong in March 2022

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Today, the company behind RISE and “the world’s most influential tech event”, Web Summit, announced that RISE will be returning to Hong Kong in March 2022 as an in-person event.

RISE was launched in Hong Kong in 2015, where it has already been successfully hosted five times and where, according to CNBC, it has become Asia’s largest tech event.

Over the years, the event has gathered many thousands of global tech founders, startups, investors and members of the media to the city. The event has become an important opportunity for eastern and western companies to make connections in new markets.

Past speakers have included Alibaba co-founder and executive vice chairman Joseph Tsai, Stripe co-founder and president John Collison, Magic Leap CEO Peggy Johnson, and Sequoia Capital founding managing partner Neil Shen.

We are extremely grateful for the support the city of Hong Kong has given RISE over the last five years, and we couldn’t be more excited to return in-person in 2022. We’ve seen the region's tech and startup economy grow from strength to strength since we launched RISE in 2015,” said Paddy Cosgrave, co-founder and CEO of RISE conference and Web Summit.

“We always intended to come back to Hong Kong at some stage. RISE has grown to what it is today after five successful years in the city. The event has now become an important nexus that connects the east and the rest of the world. CEOs and investors from around the world want a window into the region, and vice versa,”  he continued.

"I’m very excited to see RISE, a world-renowned tech event, returning to Hong Kong. This is a testimony of Hong Kong’s success to containing the pandemic and keeping infection rate among the lowest in the world, thereby giving international event organisers confidence that they can stage their events here safely. I am sure the staging of RISE will showcase Hong Kong’s capacity to deliver amid the challenges posed by the epidemic, and connect our tech start-up ecosystem with that of the globe. I look forward to welcoming more world class business events to Hong Kong, injecting new vigour into our economy.” said  Hong Kong’s secretary for commerce and economic development, Edward Yau.

We welcome the return of RISE to Hong Kong for another five years in 2022–2026. The city’s state-of-the-art infrastructure and venues, complemented with a favourable business environment and unique travel experiences, are all part of the equation reflecting Hong Kong’s appeal for international business events. With Hong Kong’s strategic location in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, event participants can also capitalise on the multitude of opportunities in the region. With the strong commitment to hygiene and safety across all community sectors, the city is gearing up for a new milestone, and the HKTB will continue to make its best efforts to maintain Hong Kong’s status as The World’s Meeting Place.” said HKTB chairman YK Pang.

Hosting RISE in the coming 5 years bears an impactful significance to the recovery of Hong Kong’s MICE sector, as it marks the return of top-class international events to Hong Kong. With stringent anti-epidemic measures in place and our quality service, we will continue to work closely with organisers to deliver world-class events to maintain Hong Kong as the Asia’s premier meeting hub and attract more international events to the city” added AsiaWorld-Expo chairman Ng Chi-kee.

The city boasts a growing and diverse startup economy. Between 2018 and 2020, the number of local startups rose 28 percent to 3,360, with non-locals counting for 26 percent of founders. Additionally, in 2020, foreign direct investment to Hong Kong surged by 62 percent year-on-year, to US$119 billion, making Hong Kong the third largest FDI recipient in the world, behind the United States (US$156.3 billion) and mainland China (US$149.3 billion). According to the World Bank, Hong Kong is number three in the world for doing business.

RISE will now take place as an in-person conference in AsiaWorld-Expo (the AWE) from March 14–17, 2022.

As school year opens, do not forget Learners with Disabilities; urge Congress for immediate approval of Inclusive Education Bill

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Save the Children, the foremost child rights organization in the Philippines, is urging Congress for the immediate approval of the the Bicameral Committee version of the Inclusive Education (IE) Bill for Learners with Disabilities to be signed into law by the President.

“As School Year 2021-2022 is set to open on September 13, we must also consider the welfare of 5.5 Million Learners with Disabilities who have limited access to quality and inclusive education even before the pandemic,” said Atty. Alberto Muyot, Chief Executive Officer of Save the Children Philippines.

“The early enactment of the ‘Inclusive Education Bill’ will provide children with disabilities with equal access and opportunities to quality education thereby making the educational system of our country more inclusive,” Muyot said.

The IE Bill, which is advocated by Save the Children Philippines and partners, was approved on 3rd Reading in the House of Representatives in December 2020 and in the Senate last May 2021.

The organization has raised concerns on the disruption of education among marginalized children and learners in the Philippines who were most impacted by the pandemic – with “lack of support, access to the internet, accessible software and learning materials” as just some of the many factors that “deepen the gap for students with disabilities” as per policy brief “A Disability-Inclusive Response to COVID-19” by the United Nations Sustainable Development Group.

Children with disabilities face “major concerns” accessing: education (51.8%), child development services (50.7%), habilitation and rehabilitation services (48.5%), and general health services (42.8%) according to the “Situation of Children with Disabilities in the Context of COVID19” online survey in 2020 by the Council for the Welfare of Children – Sub-committee for Children with Disabilities. 14.1% of the respondents also cited a “decline in mental health and wellbeing of children” as a result of their inability to access mental health and psychosocial services.

Sierra Paraan, Basic Education Advisor of Save the Children Philippines, believes the IE Bill is crucial in supporting marginalized children during the pandemic, and improving education for all.

“The IE Bill is important in ensuring that the rights of children with disabilities to quality inclusive education are upheld as they, and their families, are among the most impacted by discrimination and inequality during this pandemic,” said Paraan.

The IE Bill seeks to provide learners with disabilities access to public and private schools, support services and capacity building to students, their families/ caregivers, and teachers, including the establishment of Inclusive Learning Resource Centers (ILRC) that will serve as knowledge hubs.

Among many of the IE Bill’s other provisions, an Advisory Council for Education of Learners with Disabilities will be made to support the Department of Education (DepEd) in further improving the country’s educational system, and to provide a support system for parents so they may be able to further care for their children at home. Learners with disabilities who have not had early childhood and basic education services will also receive support through the Child Find System which will identify and facilitate their inclusion in learning programs.

“This is why Save the Children urges everyone to support the bill,” said Paraan.

“With accessible, inclusive, appropriate education and services through the IE Bill, no student will be left behind.”

LJ Reyes and Paolo Contis split due to third party?

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Thoughts go to LJ Reyes and anyone who has been cheated on. It’s not and will never be easy. It is degrading and the wounds take time to heal. Hoping anyone who has gone through the same experience gets to meet a good person who is willing to go through the healing journey with you.

LJ Reyes confirmed that she has broken up with Paolo Contis, her boyfriend of six years.

It must have been so hard for LJ Reyes that she actually felt like she needed to break her silence on an issue that is so personal. Nagtext sya kay Tito boy at a time when she's already leaving for NY. Para bang siniguro nya munang safe sya bago sya magsalita.'

LJ Reyes seemingly opened up how the breakup has affected her and how she felt Paolo had already distanced himself from them.

When Boy Abunda ask LJ Reyes if there is a 3rd party between her relationship with Paolo Contis, LJ's silence screams so loud. We know LJ. You are a woman and a woman doesn't always need a man to live.

So Paolo Contis left LJ Reyes because of a third party & money. Yon lang malinaw sa interview ni LJ. All the rest malabo. I dont get the "protect my children" line. I feel that LJ couldn't express herself well.Issue is simple, UNFAITHFULNESS & SELFISHNESS.

I never was a fan of LJ Reyes but my heart is breaking with her right now.

When Aki told LJ Reyes, 'You complete us mom', my heart cried.

I pity LJ Reyes, but I wish she was able to express her side the same way Bea Alonzo expressed her side during the "ghosting" issue w/ Gerald Anderson.

For me, it's really hard to go into details. She's torn between wanting to hate the guy but still wanted to respect him because he's still the father of her kids.

This made me think about the ideals surrounding "marriage". It's scary how people could leave that easily.

It only goes to show that not all things people post on social media are genuine and true. What really counts are the actions of a person towards you. I was rooting for their family before based on their vlogs!

To be Paolo Contis, you don't need to explain your side anymore. That whole hour interview of Lj was enough for us to understand. Kahit huwag na.

Roque claims PPEs sourced by Aquino administration were more expensive

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Malacañang turned the table against the opposition, claiming the PPE bought by the previous administration were even more costlier than those procured by the Duterte administration during the pandemic.

Spoken like a true troll, DDS - diversion distraction and stupidity! Mars, umayos kayo!

This doesnt justify what the current administration did. I can't believe the reasoning of this fools. They are like immature uneducated people. Seriously.

More deflection and misdirection. If the purchases of the previous administration were anomalous, why were there no allegations from the opposition of that time? I’m sure this would have made some good hearings. Kayo ang pinaguusapan ngayon. Kung aboveboard kayo, no problem.

A COA audit at that time would also show any anomaly.

Troll talaga. The question is may bidding ba na nangyari, baka yun ang lowest bidder at that time, hindi katulad niyan na si Duterte mismo ang namili ng supplier.

14M vs 3B?? Are specs the same? At best pareho kayong kumita.

Pagtabihin ang specs. 3M ang brand ng PPE ng previous admin.

Those PPEs were bought in sets and high quality 3M, branded. May anti-fog lens pa.

That's how the previous admin cared about the HCWs, providing them with quality protective gears.

Whataboutism ampucha! Overpriced din malamang nung panahon ni Aguinaldo, so pare pareho kayong magnanakaw, does that make you less guilty??

Pati kung guilty man sila that does not take away na overpriced pa din pinagbibili nyo tapos sa kapadrino ninyo pa binigay yung kontrata. Mahiya ka naman sa balat mo, Roque!

There's no point of comparison in this case. It's so unfair that Roque had to resort with that excuse. At that time of Pnoy there was no pandemic and the situation was so different from what we have now.

See how twisted this administration's logic is? If you can't win the argument, cite the previous administration or better yet resort to name-calling and personal attacks.

Kilos at ugaling basura!

Nagturo na naman. Walang kuwenta talaga. May pandemic na pala ng nakaraang administrasyon. Ginagago talaga taumbayan.

Hukay kalansay pa more, Roque!

This is textbook definition of gaslighting!

Shameless people.

Roque, present tense ang pandemic. The past administration was almost 6 years ago. You really have no honor. Just because you have no defense against this malfeasance you resort to off tangent blame game. How dare you.

Focus focus, Roque. You are losing the argument.

It's very clear how these people succumb to cognitive bias aka false consensus. They always try to justify their actions by claiming that they're not the only ones failing and that whatever they did will always be justifiable given the circumstances.

Turn the tables? That's NOT even a defense..

Roque wants Filipinos to look the other way with a girly-gay cheap shot.. his only brand of lawyering!!

Deny, divert, deflect and cry, diyan kayo mahusay. That worked before, but now it's time to face the music and get ready for jail time.

And don't worry if you drop the soap, walang magkakainteres na convict sa inyo. Bugbugin puwede pa.

Nakaka stress lang patulan. Sa halip na serbisyo sa bayan. Ang nasa isip paano sila yayaman. Huwag linlangin ang publiko. sagutin ang issue!

Michael Yang and Pharmally executives are wanted in Taiwan for financial crimes

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Executives of Pharmally International Holding Company and a business associate of Michael Yang, a former economic adviser of President Rodrigo Duterte, are on the run from the Taiwan government, opposition senator Risa Hontiveros said on Wednesday, September 1.

The Taiwan government is after Huang Wen Lie, Huang Tzu Yen, and Michael Yang’s business partner for financial crimes.

Hontiveros also says Full Win president Zheng Bingqiang, close associate of President Rodrigo Duterte's ex-adviser Michael Yang who has ties to Pharmally, also has a warrant of arrest in Taiwan. Both have met with Duterte in the past.

This means that the President has been interacting with Pharmally since 2015. And of course, there’s that video of the President meeting Pharmally officials in 2017.

Is there more to this story than what the President is leading us to believe?

Hontiveros says these information she is now sharing can all be found online, so she doubts Duterte isn't aware of the warrants of arrest vs the people he has dealt with.

Duterte's former economic adviser Michael Yang is behind drug smuggling in Davao City and CDO since 2004. He is the same Yang connected with Pharmally Pharmaceutical which bagged billions of pesos contract with DOH for the purchase of overpriced PPEs, face mask and face shield.

Duterte's friends are wanted for securities fraud, embezzlement, and stock manipulation.

Why am I not surprised.

As the saying goes "tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are" and  "birds of the same feather flock together"

"When the character of a man is not clear to you, look at his friends."

It seems like when you say businessman from Davao these days, it’s an euphemism for syndicate or crony from Davao.

Duterte from the very beginning of his administration has been surrounded by dubious personalities especially in business circles and most of them rose to prominence under his nose with some questionable trails but yet they enjoy the levers of government at their own free will.

So the government is now aiding and abetting fugitives? Wonderful.

The scam president who scammed 16M DDS into voting him, together with ex adviser & also a scammer Michael Yang (left) who is wanted in Taiwan.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he brokered the SINOVAC purchases as well.

Maybe, they are also the real owners of Heng De and Ai De Lai face shield and masks.

But they were supposed to be investors, according to Duterte, weren't they? Should we cut relations with Taiwan for their indifference to the sensibilities of the head of state of a neighboring, friendly country, by making him look pathetically gullible?

These fugitives have been able to penetrate the Office of the Preaident & even awarded Billions of pesos of contracts, what a fucking connection!

Malacañang denied that the influence of former economic adviser and businessman Michael Yang led to the government's decision to buy over PHP8 billion worth of Covid-19 medical supplies from Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corporation.

A corrupt president dealing with wanted criminals. Duterte syndicate at its finest.

Caught in the act, but still deny to death, is the mobsters' 13th commandment.

Mag papauto pa ba uli tayo?

Inauguration of Catarman Airport development projects happening on September 2

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

In a bid to accommodate the increasing air transport demand in Northern Samar, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) have completed, amid the pandemic, development projects in the Catarman Airport which will be inaugurated on Thursday, 02 September 2021.

DOTr Secretary Art Tugade will lead the inaugural ceremony along with CAAP Director General Capt. Jim Sydiongco and several local government officials.

The completed development projects include the construction of a Passenger Terminal Building (PTB), the expansion of the airport's apron, the construction of additional taxiway, construction of perimeter fence, re-blocking of the dilapidated apron pavement, asphalt overlay, and shoulder grade correction at the runway.

Aside from providing comfort and convenience to air travelers, Catarman Airport also serves as an alternate gateway in cases of emergencies and calamities. In 2013, Supertyphoon Yolanda wreaked havoc in the Visayas and damaged the Tacloban Airport, forcing Catarman Airport to augment and facilitate the transport of relief goods, medicines, and other commodities.

In 2015, the airport also sustained damages due to Typhoon Nona. Because of this, emergency rehabilitation projects had to be carried out and were recently finished. The airport’s PTB is also ensured to be sustainable and structurally stable following another strong storm that hit the province in 2019.

Moreover, the improvement of the Catarman Airport aims to help serve the growing local and foreign tourist arrivals in the region. Considering the tourism development potential of the province, the DOTr had recommended the upgrading of the existing Catarman Airport facilities.

From the previous 50, the airport's Passenger Terminal Building now has the capacity to accommodate 150 at any given time and 50,000 passengers annually.

With its completed rehabilitation works, Catarman Airport can now accommodate two (2) turboprop Q-400 aircraft and is expected to improve the handling of commercial flights in both Catarman and in the whole of Northern Samar.

Filipino Cuisine Gems: Top 5 Dishes You Must Try On Your Philippines Trip

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

The Philippines is a melting pot of multiple cultures that left their mark on its cuisine. The country located in the South China Sea has influences of Chinese, Spanish, and American cuisines.

While the Chinese introduced soy sauce, noodles, and tofu, Spanish influence includes cooking techniques like sauteing and braising. Moreover, Americans introduced the concept of convenient cooking along with hot dogs, fried chicken, and hamburgers.

The best time to visit the Philippines is in the late fall, which is November, all the way to April. During these months, The weather in the Philippines experiences a cold and dry season with temperatures ranging from 24°C-31°C.

All the beautiful islands and remote areas are open during this time, which makes it ideal to get a complete experience. Moreover, being able to access more areas means you can try more regional dishes while traveling in the Philippines.

Filipino cuisine is the ultimate fusion food that has some unique dishes. What's more interesting is that the cuisine has maintained a unique identity different from its neighboring Asian countries. If you're planning to visit the Philippines this fall, here are the top 5 Filipino dishes you must try on the trip.

Chicken Adobo

Adobo is the national dish of the Philippines and probably the most famous of all Filipino dishes. The dish is chicken braised in vinegar and then cooked with other herbs and spices. Natives also make Adobo with pork or fish, but chicken adobo is the most popular of them all.

Notably, the dish was named by Spanish, and the term comes from the Spanish word Adobar, which means to marinate. Spanish saw natives using salt and vinegar to marinate a protein, to which they added garlic and onions. Over time, the recipe evolved and is now prepared using many ingredients like vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, onion, bay leaves, and peppercorns. Adobo is traditionally cooked in a heavy-bottomed clay pot, which gives it an authentic flavor.

When on a trip to the Philippines, make sure to try the Chicken Adobo from an authentic place. You can also try other variations like Shrimp Adobo, Squid Adobo, and Yellow Adobo (pork).

Balut

Balut is probably the most polarising dish in Filipino cuisine and also a food icon. This is one dish that always raises eyebrows when you mention it to anyone. And there's a good reason behind it. This popular Filipino delicacy is prepared by incubating duck eggs for around 19 days and then served with a dash of vinegar. The street food which originated in the Philippines is also found in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos.

The dish is quite popular with children in the Philippines, and natives swear by it. According to locals, this nourishing dish is just 188 calories per Balut with nutrients like niacin, riboflavin, thiamine, protein, calcium, iron, and phosphorus. The egg is eaten at 18-19 days of age because, at this stage, the embryo is not fully developed to show feathers, claws, beaks, and bones.

While it may sound disgusting and yucky at first, it's worth giving it a shot to experience Filipino cuisine to its full potential.

Kare Kare

Kare Kare is another iconic Filipino dish that everyone must partake in when traveling to the Philippines. The dish is famous throughout the country and gets its name from the word curry, which is a nod to its Indian community living in the Cainta Area of Manila. It's believed that the dish comes from Indian soldiers who settled in the country during the British invasion.

In the Philippines, Kare Kare is considered comfort food eaten while growing up. The dish is super heavy and usually had for dinner. Kare Kare is a stew made from oxtail, ox tripe, vegetables, ground roasted peanuts, onion, and garlic. It's served with Bagoong (shrimp paste), Calamansi (Filipino lime), and chili.

Kinilaw

If you're a foodie, the chances are high that you may have tried ceviche or heard of it. Kinilaw is a Filipino dish, which is quite similar to the Peruvian ceviche. The name comes from the Tagalog dialect, which means to ‘eat fresh’. Kinilaw is a raw fish salad that's usually served with Filipino lime and vinegar.

Just like ceviche, the acid from the lime and vinegar cooks the protein, making it digestible. Kinilaw also contains chili, pepper, onion, ginger, and garlic, which gives it a distinct flavor. More interestingly, the vinegar in the Philippines is made by fermenting coconut water, which gives it a sour-sweet taste, adding another dimension to the salad.

Sinigang

Sinigang is yet another much-loved stew enjoyed all over the country. As is expected, this is a meaty stew but more savory and sour than Kare Kare. The stew is usually made with tamarind as the souring agent. However, natives use varied ingredients like calamansi, guavas, and tomatoes.

Sinigang is typically served as a soup with many vegetables, including aubergine, daikon, water spinach, okra, and onions. The stew is mainly prepared with pork, but locals also prepare beef, fish, and chicken-based sinigang.

These were the top five dishes that one must try when in the Philippines. However, Filipino cuisine is not limited to just these, and there is a lot more to it. Therefore, it's suggested to eat only Filipino dishes while here to get the whole experience. Some other popular dishes include turon, kamaru, lumpia, and pancit palabok, to name a few.
