Wazzup Pilipinas!?
This is the situation at all cinemas all over the country. No crowd, no queues. Pre-COVID, this used to be packed with moviegoers on Christmas day.
To be honest, this is not just because of the pandemic but also because Philippine Cinema is declining in quality. People are not patronizing Pinoy made movies because there are only a few good Filipino films. Often patronized are international films or the highly budgeted and with intellectual plots foreign films.
Covid pa kasi. Not everyone is vaccinated. Maski ako ayoko magwatch muna sa sinehan kung two seats apart at no food inside. How on earth can we enjoy that? When we have zero cases na for sure everything will go back to normal na.
We go to cinema MAINLY to enjoy luxury of comfort & peace, romantic mood, pop corn indulgence, feeling of "fiesta" celebration where laughter & excitement is shared wt others in watching your fave actors in big screen. Without these, aint worth it.
It's also the attitude and mental state of Filipinos. Kahit anung country or lahi, lahat ay may good and bad movies. So I think people are already judging without even watching mainly because of the history of badly written and starred Pinoy movies done all throughout the past years. Most Pinoy movies capitalize only on the chosen actors fame and not acting prowess.
Cliche comedy/popular films and inaccessible “quality” films.
Then gaslight Filipinos for “colonial mentality” and just say support local?
Fuck support local. Support good quality products instead.
Tapos yung mga nanggagaslight eh yung mga Kpop, BL, Taylor Swift stans.
I don't mind having MMFF, pero the problem is that MMFF continues to premiere movies that were produced for profit's sake. Quantity over quality.
Walang budget for fantasy, superhero genre, ganun kasi hanap ngayon. Lalo na sabik kay Spider-Man No Way Home.
Reasons why I don’t watch MMFF (my own opinion):
1. Some movies are not worth of my money in short (basura ang storyline, paulit-ulit ang plot)
2. I still wait for reviews to watch (known and established critic) if no good reviews pass ako.
People are wiser nowadays. They want value for their money. So instead of going to the movies and risking their health, they prefer watching Netflix at the comfort of their homes. Our entertainment industry should do better.
No choice for movie makers who want to earn a profit but to go back to low quality movies na mas gusto ng masa.
