Wazzup Pilipinas!?
President Rodrigo Duterte’s spokesperson Harry Roque, a former human rights lawyer, FAILS to secure a seat in the International Law Commission after strong opposition from human rights groups and law experts from around the world.
The UN General Assembly will elect only seven nationals from Asia-Pacific group to form the 34-member commission and Harry Roque did not make it. He is ... "as one of those believed to be legalized to do and condone crime as his CEO rules by decree."
Harry Roque from the Philippines got the least number of votes. Here is a transcript of results posted by Anthony Esguerra.
India 163
Thailand 162
Japan 154
Vietnam 145
China 142
South Korea 140
Cyprus 139
Mongolia 123
Lebanon 119
Sri Lanka 112
Philippines 87
Previously, more than 150 Filipino lawyers, among many others, sent a petition asking the International Law Commission not to elect Harry Roque.
International Association of Democratic Lawyers, which also opposed Roque’s election:
“Mr. Roque has arrogantly defended and justified even beyond the “call of duty” his principal’s attacks on human rights, justice, due process, and the rule of law.”
Karma really works. What comes around goes around.
Lesson learned... Wag magpakataas. Manatiling mapagkumbaba at gumawa ng tama para sa kapwa. Keep the goodness in you and don't compromise your core values just for temporary position or success.
I like the way this said "former human rights lawyer" because he could have just continued fighting the good fight but he didn't.
Dapat nga “former human” lang ang description.
Trabaho lang daw. I feel bad for you Atty Roque. You always have a choice to do good for your fellow. But as long as you're alive, there's still time to make it up. God bless you and guide you to the righteous path.
Considering the countless times he shamelessly put Filipinos down..
We're celebrating tonight!!!
