John Arcilla bags the Volpi Cup Best Actor award at the prestigious 78th Venice Film Festival for his performance as Sisoy Salas in 'On the Job: The Missing 8.'
John is the first Southeast Asian actor to bag the prestigious award.
Arcilla won the coveted award for his portrayal of Sisoy Salas in the movie directed by Erik Matti.
Matti, accepted the award on Arcilla's behalf, who couldn't attend the festival because he is currently taping in Ilocos for 'FPJ's Ang Probinsyano'.
The historic nature of Arcilla's win for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival - the oldest in the world - cannot be underplayed. Arcilla is the 5th Asian actor to win Volpi Best Actor. Apart from Mifune (who won twice), Shah, & Xia, Palestinian Kamel El-Basha also won in 2017 for The Insult.
Penélope Cruz was best actress. John was in the US a couple of years ago for Heneral Luna. Exciting to witness the world seeing John’s tremendous talent!
In a pre-recorded video, Arcilla thanked the film festival for the acting award.
'If there is something I really regret tonight it is I wont be able to kiss my own Volpi cup there in the middle of Venice and on that red carpet just like all other 77 actors who I admire.'
