How did Secretary Duque, health chief of the country with the most number of COVID cases, get the top post of the World Health Organization in the region? The WHO needs to watch out for Secretary Duque, whose leadership saw thousands of people getting sick and billions of pesos missing from public coffers. Duque has no credibility to chair the regional WHO body especially when the country suffered so much because of his obscene failure to act early. If anything, this new post will only be a deodorizer for the embattled Duque. President Duterte's latest defense for Duque is yet another shameless attempt to coddle him from accountability for the failed pandemic response and the massive corruption scandals in Philhealth. The people want Duque to pay for his failures not for him to be pampered by the President.
