Wazzup Pilipinas!
On the anniversary of Martial Law, Vice President Leni Robredo tells Filipinos to "push back" against historical revisionism and to keep on telling the truth behind the Marcos dictatorship and its abuses.
I hope our little voice through this blog could help share the real stories about Marcos.
On this day 48 years ago, dictator Ferdinand Marcos placed the country under martial law — remembered by many Filipinos as one of the darkest chapters in Philippine history.
On September 21, 1972, the late president and dictator Ferdinand Marcos placed the Philippines under martial law, claiming that the country is experiencing a communist threat.
Under the Marcos regime, there were lots of human rights violations and attacks against press freedom.
On this day in 1972, then-president Ferdinand Marcos signed Proclamation No. 1081 declaring martial law in the Philippines. During this period, thousands of Filipinos were killed, tortured, and imprisoned. Corruption was also rampant.
For the duration of Marcos' "martial rule," $10 billion were plundered, at least 3,200 persons extrajudicially killed, 3,500 tortured and more than 700 disappeared.
Remember your September 21.
The Philippines never became the “richest country in Asia” during the time of Marcos. Looking at data on each country’s GDP and GDP per capita, universal indicators of a nation’s prosperity, PH was never the richest, not even in Southeast Asia.
If the Phiippines had its "golden years" under the Marcos dictatorship, why did the Filipino people, in the exercise of their sovereign power, kick them out of Malacanang in the EDSA People Power Revolution in 1986 and send them into exile to enable them to save their lives?
Historical records also show that personal freedoms and media access were restricted when Martial Law was declared. Access to news was only through state-run or crony-controlled media.
‘HUWAG KALIMUTAN ANG KASAYSAYAN’
Human rights lawyer Chel Diokno urged the youth to scrutinize online content, particularly those that are propagating fake news about the Marcos dictatorship, during the 48th anniversary of martial law on Monday. https://t.co/R7jmiakqz8
Under Martia getl Law asking questions to IMEE MARCOS can be fatal. Such is the fate of Archimedes Trajano who in an open forum at Mapua in 1977 asked Imee why she is Nat'l Chair of Kabataang Brgy. He was seen dragged away by Imee's bodyguards & afew days later found tortured & dead.
