President Rodrigo Duterte has granted an absolute pardon to US Marine Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. says.
In a tweet, DFA Sec. Locsin said "Cutting matters short over what constitutes time served, and since where he was detained was not in the prisoner’s control—and to do justice—the President has granted an absolute pardon to Pemberton. Here at the Palace."
This move removes all of Pemberton’s criminal liability.
Pemberton made news headlines last week after an Olongapo court ordered his early release over "good conduct," another questionable action.
The US Marine who was jailed for the death of Filipino transgender woman Jennifer Laude.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque once said that allowing the early release of Pemberton sets a "very bad" precedent...
Now Roque is saying: "Hindi na po kinakailangan bigyan ng dahilan ng president iyan, dahil ang pag-grant ng pardon at parole, hindi po iyan katungkulan ng hudikatura, kundi katungkulan ng ehekutibo, iyan po ay one of the most presidential of all presidential powers "
Please note that Atty. Harry Roque represented Jennifer Laude's family in the case against Pemberton. He also insisted that the Trans Panic defense does not and should not have a precedent in the case.
We know for sure that Roque has sold his principles and integrity to the devil called Rodrigo Duterte.
