Beat Holiday Stress with RedDoorz 499 Promo
Wazzup Pilipinas!
The holiday fever is on! Mall sales, Christmas tiangges and bazaars are up and Chtistmas shopping is on everyone’s mind.
It’s easy to get stressed even just by thinking of how to navigate through the hustle and bustle of the days ahead, how to survive the horrendous traffic and get all one’s Christmas errands done.
RedDoorz, the Philippines’ No. 1 affordable hotel chain and Southeast Asia’s largest, fastest-growing, technology-driven hotel management company, may just have a good solution. For the month of October, RedDoorz is offering rooms at Php 499 for overnight stay at selected RedDoorz hotels nationwide.
This means..
1. You can rent a room to serve as “battle station” while you shop till you drop.
Shopping and walking with all those bags and packages in your arms can be really uncomfortable, plus the chances of you dropping or missing a package or two increases with each new purchase. You wish you could have a place to leave your bags so you can free your hands and do more “battles” at store counters and tiangge queues.
Why not check into a nearby RedDoorz hotel with a 499 Promo? You can deposit all your stuff while you go out and “shop pa more”, maybe even grab a bite or drink in between. You can rest assured that all your belongings will be safe. You can even grab some snooze time if you want.
2. You can beat the traffic with an overnight stay at an affordable but clean and comfy hotel.
The MMDA says traffic is going to get even worse, thanks to Holiday mall sales, night markets and tiangges. A lot of people decide to let the traffic subside by staying at restos or roaming around malls a little bit longer. Only to find out that a thousand other mall-goers are thinking the same thing. The result? You all get caught in the jam, and the traffic is still heavy even up to midnight.
Bypass the stress and the traffic. Check your RedDoorz app and look for the nearest RedDoorz hotel. Book a room and let the thought of the traffic melt away as you enjoy a warm shower, savor the clean sheets and treat yourself – yes, the family too! -- to a relaxing overnight stay. At very affordable rates.
3. You can cook up a quick, low-budget Barkada Party and save big bucks.
It’s hard to find a get-together place this time of year. Restaurants are fully booked, bars are crowded and event places are too expensive. Instead of looking for a costly place and spending lots of money on food and beverages, why not hold your cozy Christmas party at a nearby RedDoorz? You’ll get a different vibe, lots of time to chill, and while you’re on a low budget theme, you can ditch the fancy foods and just party on chips, finger foods, and drinks.
4. You can have a happy, cost efficient Holidays.
So for the Christmas season, don’t be afraid to pursue your dream holiday staycation. Celebrate Paskong Pilipino with family and friends anytime, anywhere in the Philippines. RedDoorz’s affordable hotel rates – even those not included in the 499 Promo -- lets you experience and enjoy travel as much as you want, near or far. RedDoorz now has 200 partner hotels all over the Philippines from way up north in Baguio, to Pampanga, Metro Manila, Tagaytay and Palawan all the way down south to Cebu, Iloilo, Dumaguete, Bacolod, Tacloban, Bohol, Davao, Cagayan De Oro and Boracay. Your best Christmas celebration yet could be just a RedDoorz away.
Download the RedDoorz app on Google Play Store and App Store to find your perfect location this Holiday season.

PINACO Signs on as the Platinum Sponsor of the 30th SEA Games and 10th ASEAN Para Games In a Deal Brokered by Mediapro Asia
Wazzup Pilipinas!
Less than two months before the Philippine hosting of the 30th South East Asian Games, the Philippine South East Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) has gained a new partner through Mediapro Asia. PINACO, Vietnam’s leading dry cell and storage battery signed a commitment of support with PHISGOC for the hosting of the 30th SEA games.
“Since our last partnership announcement, we are excited to once again have another partner on board for the SEA Games. With PINACO, this opens up the Vietnamese market for us, and we are hoping that this would be the first of many other collaborations with PINACO,” said Lars Heidenreich, Managing Director Mediapro Asia.
PINACO has been the constant companion of many major regional and international sports events, and will be leveraging on this SEA Games as the opportunity to lead-up into the 2021 SEA Games taking place in Vietnam.
“It is such a great honour and pride for PINACO to be one of the official Platinum Partners of this event in the hopes of contributing to the success of the Games, especially given that the 30th SEA Games is the largest sports event in the region,” said Tran Thanh Van, General Director of PINACO.
PHISGOC Chair and House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano said the partnership with PINACO adds to the growing list of private companies expressing their support for the Philippines hosting.
For the past year, PHISGOC has been successful in tapping private companies to sponsor the events and augment the organizing committee’s budget.
“The overwhelming support of international brands boosts our efforts to facilitate our preparations and inspire us to work even harder every day,” Cayetano said.
The entry of PINACO, represented by its General Director, Tran Thanh Van, helps our organizing committee to raise its standards of hosting the 30th South East Asian Games.
In simple signing ceremonies held in Taguig on Thursday, Cayetano thanked PINACO for the opportunity to partner with PHISGOC for the successful hosting of this year's SEA games.
Given that 2019’s SEA Games is being promised as one of the biggest ever, with 56 sports, 8750 athletes and team officials; and targeting more than 500 million viewers, this would look to be a valuable sponsorship in exposures.
PHISGOC officials expressed their gratitude for giving their trust and confidence to the organizing committee.
For this year’s SEA games, PHISGOC is expecting the participation of 11,000 athletes and team officials, 9,000 volunteers, 530 medal events covering 56 sports in 53 competition venues for the 30th edition of the games, which will happen in 12 exciting days. The events will take place in 4 clusters in Clark, Subic, Metro Manila and other areas in South Luzon.
Five Foreign and One Local Companies Vie to Build PNR Clark 2 Segment to Clark Airport, Depot
Wazzup Pilipinas!
The massive North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) Project continues to draw a significant number of proposals from here and abroad, as Contract Packages 4 and 5 of the PNR Clark Phase 2 attracted one local and five international companies.
Bid submission was held Monday, 14 October 2019, at the office of the Procurement Service - Department of Budget and Management (PS-DBM).
Following the record turnout of 11 international and local bidders for Contract Packages 1-3 in August, DOTr Undersecretary for Railways TJ Batan and PNR General Manager Junn Magno noted that the sustained interest of proponents in the NSCR Project, as manifested in the level of participation for Contract Packages 4 and 5, is continuing proof of the international infrastructure industry’s trust in the Duterte Administration’s Build Build Build Program.
Jointly implemented by the DOTr and PNR, and procured through the PS-DBM, “the turnout of bidders for Packages 1-5 of PNR Clark Phase 2 is proof that competition and value for taxpayers' money are enhanced with a bidding process that is transparent, fair, and corruption-free,” Batan said.
“The vibrant turnout of proponents yet again for Contract Packages 4 and 5 reflects the solid support and trust of the international infrastructure industry in the Duterte administration. With a robust competition, we also raise the standard of quality of our infrastructures that shall, in the end, best serve the Filipino people,” Magno added.
The NSCR Project – a mega railway network spanning 148 kilometers with 37 stations – is worth PhP777.55 billion. It is co-financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). It notably remains to be both the ADB’s fastest rail project implementation and recipient of its largest financing — further proof of the trust that the international development finance community has extended to President Rodrigo Duterte's promise of delivering the Philippines' Golden Age of Infrastructure.
PNR Clark Phase 2 is a 53-kilometer segment from Malolos, Bulacan to Clark, Pampanga, which forms part of the NSCR. This rail line will feature the country’s first airport express railway service.
Contract Package 4 consists of 8 kilometers and includes Clark International Airport Station. Contract Package 5, meanwhile, consists of the NSCR’s Clark Depot.
Companies that participated in the bidding are Acciona (Spain), EEI (Philippines), GS Engineering & Construction (Korea), Posco Engineering & Construction (Korea), PT Waskita (Indonesia), and PT Wika (Indonesia).
PNR Clark Phase 2 is targeted for partial operations by 2022. This rail line will reduce travel time between Malolos, Bulacan and Clark International Airport to just 30-35 minutes; and from Buendia in Makati to Clark Airport from 2 hours via car to just 55 minutes through the airport express. It aims to serve 340,000 passengers daily in its opening year.
Before 2019 ends, more contract packages are scheduled for bid submission and publication. These include bid submission for PNR Calamba Package 1 (1 kilometer including Blumentritt Station) on 05 November 2019, and the start of bidding for the NSCR’s 304 Commuter Train Cars, 56 Airport Express Train Cars, and Electromechanical Systems within the last quarter of 2019.
World Leader Torani Holds First-ever Master Flavor Class in PH
Wazzup Pilipinas!
Do you know that how we experience flavors and taste is a science?
That you cannot taste flavor unless you can smell?
That color and aroma influence how we get attracted to and enjoy what we eat and drink?
That genetics, age, ethnic background, the number and sensitivity of our taste buds determine how we taste?
Over 60 baristas and restaurateurs from well-known coffee houses, restaurants, and hotels in Luzon learned about the science of flavor and more at the first-ever Torani Master Flavor Class held in the country at Seda Hotel in Taguig recently. It was jointly organized by Torani, world leader in flavoring syrups, sauces and blended drink bases, and Equilibrium Intertrade Corporation, top Philippine distributor of coffee, tea and specialty beverage products.
The three-part workshop was conducted by Anjali Ganpule, Torani’s innovative food scientist from Torani San Francisco and an active member of Northern California’s Institute of Food Technologists. Ms. Ganpule is a master at seducing the senses with both exciting and soothing flavors.
The class enabled participants to learn how to craft amazing flavors and also to understand, develop and promote their drinks in a competitive market.
The whole day deep-dive familiarized participants with the science, technology and art of creating amazing flavors. Participants learned how to enhance existing products and standardize sensory methods. They found out how customers use all of their senses to experience their drinks. By experiencing different tastes and flavors themselves, class members learned how to create yummy flavors through their knowledge of food science. They then created a drink menu with different kinds of flavors.
“Torani has over 100 flavors and those great flavors when paired with great coffee and prepared by great baristas will surely delight customers in a special way. I think that will greatly help to set their coffee shop apart from competition,” Ms. Ganpule said.
Torani Syrups & Sauces was brought to the Philippines by Equilibrium Intertrade Corporation from San Francisco, CA to re-create the café experience of the North Beach in San Francisco. It paved the way to the early beginnings and subsequent growth of the first and second waves of the Philippine Specialty Coffee Trade. These Rolls Royce of coffee flavorings has served millions of exciting lattes in many cafes in the country since it first went into the market in 1998.
Torani offers various syrups and sauces from Regular Syrup, Sauces, Fruit Purees, Real Fruit and Puremade Syrup, which delivers amazing flavor using the purest ingredients.
Equilibrium Intertrade Corporation, the country’s official distributor of Torani, has been in operation for more than 21 years in the Philippines. As the specialty coffee trade began to grow in the late 1900s, it expanded its products to include espresso machines, specialty teas and other specialty beverages. Its clients include top hotels, restaurants and the popular coffee places in the country.
Fun Ways To Enjoy The Rainy Season While Staying Safe Indoors
Wazzup Pilipinas!
The average rainfall of the Philippines is between 965 and 4,064 millimeters every year, according to PAGASA. Eastern Surigao, Eastern Samar, and Baguio City have the largest volume of rainfall while Cotabato gets the smallest volume of rain. June typically starts the rainy season in the country, but it does not stop the enjoyment. Instead, it offers an opportunity for a new kind of fun for you and your loved ones. Many indoor activities are available on rainy days, for both inside and outside your home. This is because there are lots of things to do alone or with a group regardless of the weather.
Enjoy a Staycation
If you're hesitant to travel through bad weather, you can always go on a staycation and enjoy the amenities and facilities of a local high-end hotel. There are plenty of ways to spend your time, such as relaxing at the spa, taking a dip in the pool, or catching up on your favorite shows within the comfort of your room. Your mind will be free of any outdoor activities to deal with the rain. Another great idea while you are on a staycation is to go online shopping. Browse through your favorite shopping platforms and discover the latest deals online. Many of these sites offer rainy day promos, which makes shopping during staycation a great way to spend your time indoors.
Take a Food Trip
If you're looking for a quick escape during the rainy season, another activity to do is dine-hop, or locally known as "food-tripping." When it comes to local cuisine and delicacies, the Philippines has a lot to offer. So, when you are feeling the rainy blues, satisfy your cravings and eat pinoy favorites like lechon, adobo, empanada, and Bicol express. Finding great deals on food is also another way to save money while making your stomach full.
Don't Rain on Your Fitness
Every year, the Philippines experience torrential rains from typhoons are at their highest during from July to August. But, the rain outside should not stop you from doing physical activities. After all, home fitness such as push-ups, lunges, and crunches do not require any gym equipment. Another way to work those muscles is to take a dip in the pool. Look for the closest swimming pool and splash around to feel refreshed even when it is dreary outside.
Heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and dark skies can easily dampen the mood of Pinoy wanderers. But in reality, there are many ways to take advantage of the wet season. Simply choose your favorite rainy-day activities and carry on that sunny disposition during the monsoon season.

Poblacion, Makati: Design District After Dark
Wazzup Pilipinas!
A creative crawl guide to the metro’s emerging design community
Poblacion, Makati, with its gritty backstreets and flashy neon lights in the backdrop, has reemerged as one of the metro’s creative centrals. With its streets spilling with high concept food and speakeasy bars, restaurants, and even artist spaces, Poblacion at present is a far cry from the lull of an old downtown, residential area that it used to be, and is slowly shedding its ecclectic, unpolished façade as a former red light district.
The Poblacion frequented now is at the exciting intersection of arts, culture, and gastronomy catering to the new generation of workforce from all around the metro. Its city night lights now complemented with the vibrance of artistry and creativity.
Recognizing how the creative community has alchemized one of Makati’s oldest district into a gold mine of creative vibe, Design Week Philippines highlights Poblacion as a Creative Environment in its celebration of its 11th edition from 12-20 October 2019. Design Week Philippines sees Poblacion’s transformation a perfect fit to this edition’s theme of Design Kaleidoscope, where creative communities and hubs leverage on diverse strengths and perspectives that pave the way for artistic and communal chemistry to spark change.
“There is a different energy permeating in the backstreets and alleys of Poblacion that has really changed its urbanscape, and creativity is indeed a big part of it,” comments Rhea O. Matute, executive director of Design Center of the Philippines. “The evolution of Poblacion can be seen as a celebration of individual talents and skills that complemented each other, thereby growing the community into a unique combination of cultural and business artistry.” Matute adds that the creative vibe feed on each other, encouraging the birth of more creative pursuits in the area, whether it’s gastronomy, craft beer, third wave coffee, or performance art.
“Design Center’s work in the recent years focused on collaboration with numerous creative hubs as part of the agency’s advocacy to nurture a thriving creative economy in the Philippines,” shares Matute. “We envision more creative cities in the country, and creative hubs and communities contribute significantly to this goal.” It is in this light that Matute also commends the support extended by the City Government of Makati to the creative scene, citing it as a confidence booster to creative communities and hubs.
Centers of Creativity and Craftsmanship
Aside from its Central Business District, Makati is home to advertising agencies, co-working spaces, creative hubs, retail shops, galleries, museums, among others—all of which are brewing pots for creativity, design, and craftsmanship.
Pineapple Lab, a gallery space in Poblacion, is one of the creative collaborators that Design Center is constantly working with in the recent years. In fact, their Fringe MNL festival is part of the Design Week calendar in the past editions, according to Matute. As a creative space and gallery especially for newbies, Pineapple Lab prides itself as a safe space for artistic experimentation. In this DWP edition, Pineapple Lab joins the Design Hub Hoppin’, a curated itinerary of Poblacion’s creative hubs, and is set to feature Shorts and Briefs Cinco: A Theater Festival of concise plays, and WTF PH!, an exhibit of artists bannering today’s youth spirit, creative resistance, and cultural expression of identity.
A boutique design and manufacturing studio in Alfonso St., Poblacion, The Workshop offers local, sustainable and handcrafted products like tote bags, wallets, aprons and even jewelries. The Workshop also offers another reason for people to enjoy their Fridays at The Workshop—gin buko, a cocktail popular in the provinces, which is a mix of buko and the infamous Ginebra San Miguel Kwatro Kantos.
Husband-and-wife tandem Jaime and Nadine Fanlo, together with their friend Jill Borja, serve freshly brewed craft beers in Pedro Tap House in Matilde St. Years after successfully launching their own craft beer label, Pedro Brewcrafters, and landing it on market shelves, the trio now adds variety to the bar hopping game in Poblacion through their drinks.
Pineapple Lab, The Workshop, and Pedro Tap House are just a few of the galleries, retail shops, and bars that creatives frequent in Poblacion. More Poblacion-based creative hubs, and other creative entrepreneurs in the metro, are set to participate in Design Week Philippines, particularly in a one-day design fete on 19 October 2019. Expect design talks, creative workshops, design film screening, exhibitions and pop-ups that aim to spark inspiration as Design Week Philippines takes Museo ng Makati for a different creative spin!
What’s to look forward to in the design fiesta in Makati’s repository of heritage and culture? Here’s the rundown!
Storytelling in Design
Headlined by a roster of renowned creatives like Leeroy New (The Production Designer), Patrick Cabral (The Multidisciplinary Designer), and Carlo Vergara (The Comic Creator) and joined by muralist Jappy Agoncillo and data designer Jiah Margallo, this edition’s design talks explore the value of storytelling across disciplines in shifting the way people see the world.
RAMS Philippine Premiere by Goethe Institute
Widely known for the design of Braun products and Vitsoe furniture, German industrial designer Dieter Rams is a design rockstar who was among the first to advocate environmental friendliness in his work even before sustainability was a buzzword. He is also famous for the ten principles of good design that guided even today’s topnotch products. Designers and creatives alike are encouraged to learn about his design philosophy through a screening of his life documentary.
Creative Workshops on Sustainability
A playground-inspired activity center for kids (and kids at heart!) fuses creativity with learning and endless imagination to stimulate their curiosity and capabilities as the next generation of design heroes and advocates of sustainability. Participants can enjoy workshops on watercolor painting with LifeAfterBreakfast.ph, crochet with Crochet Lovers of the Philippines, wire jewelry making with Tesseract MNL, arts and crafts with CraftMNL, basic wood works with Pioneer Adhesives, and advocacy-driven children’s games.
Design Thinking Workshop with UXPH
How might we transform and add value to user experience of art and design consumption in museums, galleries, and exhibition spaces? is the design problem that workshop participants will attempt to answer under the facilitation of Ely Apao of UXPH.
Outside Poblacion, Design Week Philippines is collaborating with other key cities in fostering creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, and innovation.

Ancient Jewish Jewelry and Tefillin
Wazzup Pilipinas!
Tefillin are made of two calfskin lashes and two dark cowhide boxes. One is for the arm, and the other is worn on the head. Inside the secret elements are portions of material with four sections from the Torah composed by an extraordinarily prepared copyist. The arm tefillin contains every one of the four areas composed on a solitary segment of material. In the head tefillin there are four separate compartments, one for every one of the four. To be genuine, the letters on the material should be entire and particular. On the off chance that ink has chipped off, and the letters are broken, or keep running into one another, the tefillin are not genuine.
Fluctuating Degrees of Value:
The nature of the composition on the material is the greatest value factor in a lot of tefillin for sale. I asked Jen Taylor Friedman, a copyist who web journals at Hatam Soferet, about this, and she expressed, "Little composing is difficult to progress admirably, so a decent arrangement of tefillin materials takes a great deal of time and exertion to deliver, which makes great materials costly. Modest tefillin have been composed quicker. Regularly, they've been written with the end goal that the letters are scarcely fit. 'Nobody will see,' the harried copyist thinks. 'What's it matters on the off chance that they're somewhat risky?' and touchy they are. Additionally, the least expensive tefillin are composed on material which has been blessed to receive make it simpler to jot on however the treatment rushes the root of the letters. So regardless of whether you're fortunate and the letters are just about legitimate, they're going to rot in ten years. This is the reason it is conceivable to purchase modest tefillin, and why it isn't the best choice."
Traditional Jewish Jewelry:
People have used jewelry throughout history. It has been used as a show of wealth as well as a way of identifying what class a person belongs to. In ancient Rome, everyone wore a ring. The material that the ring was made of designated that person’s class in society. The upper class had gold rings, the plebian had silver or bronze rings, and the slaves of the city wore iron rings to remind them of their servitude.
Jewelry was one of the first uses of metallurgy archeologists have found. The first known jewelry predates the earliest metal tools and weapons by thousands of years. With such a storied history, it should be no surprise that jewelry served many important roles in Jewish jewelry ancients.
For early human advancements, the way toward purifying and working metal into a usable structure would have been tedious and work escalated. This implies it was likely unreasonable to utilize metal to make basic devices when stone and wooden alternatives were simpler to create.
The trouble of working metal lent itself well as a grown-up toy, be that as it may. These implied gems created with what we currently consider to be normal metals would have been a profoundly looked for after materialistic trifle. Iron and steel were specifically compelling a direct result of the high dissolving purpose of iron and the obscure causes of steel.

Have There Been Any New Rules Concerning Driving, Introduced This Year?
Wazzup Pilipinas!
With everything happening in the EU in the last couple of years, there have been many changes regarding the driving and traffic rules. Other than all having some effect on the UK, these laws are going to see some changes as the year and the process of Brexit progresses. They are mainly relating to climate change, changes in administration because of Brexit, and technological developments incars.
What are some of the changes on an administrative front?
Depending on the deal made by the UK, there are changes in the current documents and paperwork in the UK. People holding licences registered in the UK have to purchase new ones if they are planning on driving in the EU. They would have to apply and going through the entire processagain. Secondly, vehicles that went through the MOT test wouldn't be valid in the EU and would have to get re-examined.
Furthermore, driving in these parts would need insurance that covers them. This might not be an issue for most, however, if the current insurance company being worked with doesn’t, it might make sense to find one that does.
The amounts being paid for taxes on vehicles are also being revised. Furthermore, other prices and details of licences and permits are being worked on but would be revised as well.
On an environmental front, these are some of the changes in the works.
Some areas are working on ideas on how to reduce pollution and to get this done are considering banning vehicles older than a specific number of years. Certain vehicles would be banned from specific locations if the rule passes but it would only happen by 2020 at the earliest.

There are penalties for using cars older than a specific number of years.
Are there any changes being made on an MOT front?
The labels used when reviewing cars have been revised. They now account for cars and the various stages of the process that they have been brought into the inspection. Certain labels are used when mentioning cars that won't clear the MOT test but would have to reapply. Labels like ‘dangerous’ and ‘major’ mean that specific issues need to be solved immediately. While the rest implies that the car will pass the MOT but would have to be given in for repairs at the soonest. ‘Minor’ and ‘advisory’ would mean that the vehicle needs some work done but would pass the test since it is not threatening.
Post multiple conversations about the MOT being outdated, the test finally has some new checks that have been added. They added under-inflated tyres, contaminated brake fluid, brake pad warning lights and missing brake pads or discs to the list. Although these are often taken for granted, they are quite significant. Additionally, they have added, reversing lights and daytime running lights for the newer versions of vehicles. There are older vehicles that might not have these features and those are going to be addressed soon as well.

Data Science is a combination of different tools, algorithms, and technology with the goal to recognize patterns from raw data and use them as basis for predictions and actions on succeeding events. It is a forward-looking approach of analyzing the past to be able to come up with informed decisions for the future.
With this, IEshikawa 14 calls on trailblazers and change-makers to venture into data science and transform their views from it being enigmatic or incomprehensible to being a valuable tool to move forward towards progress. #IEshikawa14 #BeyondTheNumbers
FDCP Launches Filming in the Philippines Location Incentives at Busan Film Market
Wazzup Pilipinas!
During its annual Philippine Cinema Night at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) held last October 6 at the Haeundae Rooftop Bar, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) revealed its biggest news yet as it launched two (2) new film incentives to encourage international film productions to shoot and work in the Philippines. The incentive program was also announced during the welcome reception at the Asian Film Market last October 5.
Aimed to offer a holistic shooting experience in the country, the location incentive schemes under the banner of FilmPhilippines give financial support to both international productions and co-productions with Filipino producers who will spend at least 8 Million Pesos ($154,000 USD) in the Philippines for their film's production and post-production. These programs, paired with FDCP’s "Let’s Create Together" campaign where the Philippines is showcased as a country and an industry open to produce meaningful, entertaining, and incredible content, are the agency's next step to going global with the audiovisual industry.
Full feature films in any genre and format—live action, documentary, animation, short films, television series, to web content series or content for alternative distribution platforms—in partnership with a duly-registered Philippine line producer may apply for the Film Location Incentive Program (FLIP).
As for the International Co-Production Fund (ICOF), Filipino feature film projects of any format with international co-production onboard may apply.
Projects at any stage—pre-production, production, or post-production—with a minimum production expenditure of 8 Million Pesos ($155,000 USD) in the Philippines may apply for the incentives.
Upon approval, a cash rebate of between 10% to 40% of qualifying production costs with a cap of up to 10 Million Pesos ($193,000 USD) may be availed through FLIP or ICOF.
Eligible spend for the incentive schemes cover artist and technician fees, equipment rental, crew, film permits, accommodation, transport, and food expenses spent in the Philippines.
Applications for both incentive schemes will be open by January 2020.
“There is no better way to underscore the celebration of the One Hundred Years of Philippine Cinema than to finally give our Filipino filmmakers and the Philippines the leverage that it needs to be globally competitive,” said FDCP Chairperson and CEO Liza Diño. Meanwhile, on a Facebook post, she also expressed her anticipation for the incentive schemes. She stated, “I'm excited to share this with the world because we have been lobbying for this since I started my term as head of this agency. I believe Busan is the perfect platform to launch this exciting program.” FDCP expects a heightened artistic and technical exchange between Filipino film workers and the rest of the world’s film professionals through this program, as well as a surge in tourism revenues and business investments months after this incentive program is launched.
The FDCP led a huge Filipino delegation this year at the Busan IFF and AFM as it continues to celebrate its 100 Years of Philippine Cinema. Around 95 delegates participating in various events in and around BIFF are 16 film companies at AFM, six Filipino films at BIFF, three projects at the Asian Project Market, three projects at the Asian Film Commissions Network (AFCNet) Cine-Link of ASIA, one project in FLY Film Lab, and four delegates in Platform BUSAN. There are also Filipino delegates in Asian Film Academy and government delegates from various agencies championing the audiovisual industry.
