DOE and EU-ASEP Capped First Phase Success, Opens Next Chapter of Implementation

Wazzup Pilipinas!

PRODUCTIVE USE OF RE PILOT PROJECTS COMPLETED:

Members of the DOE and ASEP-TA family gather for a photo during the "ASEP-TA Phase One Finale" held at Rizal Park Hotel in Manila.

Phase one of the ASEP-TA commenced in April 2016 with a program of technical assistance activities in partnership with the DOE. ASEP collaborated with TeaM Energy Foundation, Inc. (TEFI) to successfully complete the productive use of renewable energy projects, which include the RE-powered abaca spindling machines, corn shellers and dryers.
The Technical Assistance (TA) component of the European Union-supported Access to Sustainable Energy Programme (EU-ASEP) with the theme, “ASEP-TA Phase One Finale: A Retrospective”, capped its three years of implementation on Wednesday (4 September) at the Rizal Park Hotel.

ASEP is a joint undertaking of the European Union and the Department of Energy (DOE) geared towards providing access to renewable energy for the poor, remote households in the Philippines; enhancing and supporting the energy efficiency initiatives in the energy sector; and capacitating the energy movers in the Energy institutions. These activities were mainly in the area of off-grid rural electrification, energy efficiency and capacity development.

DOE Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi said, “The implementation of ASEP-TA’s first phase is our success as a united energy family. Through our combined efforts, we have achieved so much in the past three years, which have gone far in effecting positive change in the lives of our kababayans living in remote areas."

Head of Development Cooperation of the EU Delegation to the Philippines, Mr. Enrico Strampelli, together with DOE Undersecretary Felix William B. Fuentebella led the event. Meanwhile, guest speakers included Department of Science and Technology’s Undersecretary for Research of Development, Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara; National Economic Development Authority Assistant Secretary, Mr. Roderick Planta; and Team Energy Foundation, Inc. Executive Director, Mr. Ricky De Castro.

DOE Undersecretary Fuentebella, in his opening remarks, expressed the DOE’s appreciation to the EU for helping the Philippines pursue renewable energy activities that would help ensure equitable energy access, as well as energy conservation and efficiency in the country.

Among the many achievements described were the expert legal assistance provided to the DOE in the preparation of the implementing rules and regulations for the recently-enacted Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, as well as the Productive Uses of Renewable Energy (PURE) pilot projects, two of which were launched in Davao last year, while one was launched in Pangasinan this year.

Phase one of the ASEP-TA commenced in April 2016 with a program of technical assistance activities in partnership with the DOE. ASEP partnered with TeaM Energy Foundation, Inc. (TEFI) to successfully complete the third PURE project.

To end the symposium, ASEP Team Leader Douglas Liner shared his thoughts on the way forward, “I think ASEP has really achieved a lot over the last three years and put into place the policies, tools and technical examples to promote investment in rural electrification and energy efficiency. I look forward to the next phase of ASEP where can work with the private sector, financial institutions, and other stakeholders to support a larger scale of activity in these important sectors,” he said.

The Harsh Reality Stalling Their Dream Business: Lack of Funds

Despite having several business concepts ranging from food, clothing, technological tools, and service-oriented among few of their ideas, Pinoy entrepreneurs seemingly face a dead-end in growing further their business. This is due to lack of financial resources and difficulty of putting up their capital.

Practical decision-makers are hesitant to risk it as they cannot afford to see their family struggling to get by every day. Achieving Profitability with Manageable Risks

The guided mentorship and comprehensive action plan given to the partners along with the franchise loan helps in mitigating risks, lowering the overhead costs, and maximizing profitability rate.

Full Steam Ahead on the Road to Hosting FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

Wazzup Pilipinas!

With just over three years to go until the FIFA World Cup 2022 kicks off in Qatar, preparations for the tournament’s first visit to the Middle East and Arab world are in full swing.

The launch of the Official Emblem FIFA World Cup 2022, which was beamed onto buildings in Qatar and numerous major cities around the world at 20:22 local time on Tuesday 3 September, was just the latest milestone on the road to hosting one of the biggest and most prestigious sporting events in the world.

Since winning the right to host the tournament almost nine years ago, Qatar has reached a vast number of milestones. Here, we look at a long list of achievements since that magical moment on 2 December 2010 when FIFA named Qatar as the host country for 2022 tournament.

Compact tournament

Qatar will host the most compact FIFA World Cup in modern history. The longest distance between stadiums will be just 55km – meaning fans will be able to attend more than one match per day during the early stages of the tournament.

Hosting the tournament in November and December will mean perfect conditions for players and fans, thanks to average highs of 24C. For those fans watching on TV, Qatar’s global central location will mean prime-time viewing for more than 4 billion people.

Infrastructure progress

Qatar has launched two FIFA-compliant stadiums already. Following an extensive redevelopment, Khalifa International Stadium was inaugurated in May 2017, while Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah City – the first proposed Qatar 2022 stadium to be built from scratch – was unveiled earlier this year.

Both stadiums feature innovative cooling technology for the benefit of players and fans.

Of the remaining six stadiums, Education City Stadium, Al Rayyan Stadium and Al Bayt Stadium – Al Khor City are in the final stages of construction, while Lusail Stadium, Al Thumama Stadium and Ras
Abu Aboud Stadium will all be launched well ahead of the tournament, which will kick off on 21 November 2022.

Legacy programmes

The SC has launched a range of legacy programmes to ensure Qatar and the region benefits from the hosting of the tournament long after the final whistle goes on 18 December 2022.

Generation Amazing

The football for development programme Generation Amazing was launched during Qatar’s bid and has expanded significantly over the past nine years. It is active in seven countries and has already
reached more than 500,000 beneficiaries thanks to the development of community facilities and the implementation of training and education projects.

Challenge 22

The Challenge 22 innovation award has helped to foster innovation and entrepreneurship among Arab youth, with a number of the projects receiving both funding and mentorship from the SC which has helped bring their products to market.

Workers’ Welfare

The health and safety of workers in Qatar remains the country’s number one priority. The SC has developed Workers’ Welfare Standards to ensure the wellbeing, safety, security and dignity of all workers engaged on Qatar 2022 projects. The standards cover the entire cycle of a worker’s employment, from recruitment to repatriation, and are enforced by a robust four-tier audit system.

There are currently more than 27,000 workers on site at our construction projects. Since construction work began, more than 200 million hours have been worked.

Josoor Institute

The Josoor Institute continues to boost the sports and events management industries in Qatar. Its training and education courses have benefitted thousands of people across the country and region.

One of the main objectives of the Josoor Institute is to ensure the knowledge gained from hosting the FIFA World Cup continues to benefit Qatar and the region long after the tournament has finished.

Community Engagement

Everyone in Qatar – whatever their background or nationality – is a part of this once-in-a-lifetime journey towards hosting the FIFA World Cup. The SC has launched a range of activities to benefit community members, including the Youth Panel, for young people passionate about being involved in Qatar 2022, the Accessibility Forum, to ensure the tournament is the most accessible in history, and the Volunteering Programme, which invites people from around the world to support the organisation of SC events, such as stadium launches and tournament milestones.

Safety and security

Over the past nine years Qatar has struck up collaborations with international experts such as INTERPOL, the Council of Europe, the UK Home Office, French Gendarmerie and other partners to ensure the safety and security of visitors in 2022.

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Official Emblem Revealed

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Official Emblem of the 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup was unveiled today as FIFA and host country Qatar reached another major milestone on the road to the world’s greatest football showpiece.

The official unveiling took place in Qatar’s capital, Doha, at 20:22 local time (19:22 CET), with thousands of spectators witnessing the synchronised projection of the emblem onto a number of the country’s most iconic buildings, including Burj Doha, Katara Cultural Village Amphitheatre, Ministry of
Interior, Souq Waqif and Msheireb and Al Zubarah Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

A number of major cities around the world are also celebrating the milestone, with images of the emblem seen on renowned locations and outdoor billboards in prominent public spaces. Some of the world’s best-known footballers and FIFA World Cup legends are also taking to social media to support the launch and share the emblem with their millions of fans online.

The emblem’s design embodies the vision of an event that connects and engages the entire world, while also featuring striking elements of local and regional Arab culture and allusions to the beautiful game.

The swooping curves of the emblem represent the undulations of desert dunes and the unbroken loop depicts both the number eight – a reminder of the eight astonishing stadiums that will host matches – and the infinity symbol, reflecting the interconnected nature of the event. Besides echoing the shape of the iconic FIFA World Cup Trophy, the emblem’s central form takes inspiration from a traditional woollen shawl. During winter months, shawls are worn around the world and in the Arab and Gulf region in particular by a variety of people and in various styles.

The intricate embroidered detail that often adorns shawls in the Arab world is featured and takes inspiration from various cultures across Asia, celebrating the continent’s second hosting of a FIFA World Cup tournament and Qatar’s diverse population. The regionally inspired winter garment also alludes to the tournament’s start dates and the fact that it will be the first FIFA World Cup to be played in November and December.
The new typeface created to accompany the emblem reimagines traditional Arabic calligraphy in a new, contemporary font, taking inspiration from the region and Asia, and fusing tradition with modernity.

The emblem is just one example of the bold, modern tournament designs that will be revealed in the run-up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The striking Al Janoub Stadium – modelled after the traditional dhow boat used in the region and the second venue to be ready – hosted its first match in May this year and demonstrates the host country’s grand vision to create iconic designs. The remaining six venues are scheduled to be completed before the end of 2020, including the spectacular fanar lantern-inspired Lusail Stadium, which will host the opening match on 21 November, as well as the
final on 18 December 2022.

Used to the limelight by now, Young will be gracing Lenovo events and supporting the company’s advocacies. She’ll be giving fans sneak peeks of current and upcoming Lenovo products and devices and engaging them with exclusive content. The simple techie and casual gamer

While more popularly known for her TV and film stints, Young is also closely associated with technology, revealing she is a gamer at the Miss World Philippines 2013 pageant. She admits that technology played an important part of her lifestyle growing up and until now, with her various commitments.

“I’m what you can call as a simple techie. I may not be as into it as others who research and compare specifications of various products but I approach it as an art and what I look out for the most is performance and programs. I actually grew up being involved with technology. I didn’t go out that much when I was young and I was on my computer instead playing games. My computer was my outlet when my parents were out working, and during the moments when Dad was home, he even taught me coding in HTML. As a matter of fact, when I won Miss World, my gift to myself was a laptop,” Young said.

A self-confessed casual gamer, Young shares her gaming experience to the public via online streaming. Her latest gameplay to date, which saw her playing Stardew Valley, has been viewed by at least 57,000 times on Facebook. Last year, she was able to display her skills in League of Legends by taking part in a celebrity showmatch held at Conquerors Manila sponsored by Lenovo and Globe. The match was able to raise P134,000 for charity.

“I’m delighted with my partnership with Lenovo because it will definitely help elevate my streaming experience. I started streaming around February and that was also the time when Lenovo first approached me. The situation is timely for me since I’m starting to really get into PC games,” said Young.

Asked what she likes the most about Lenovo’s products, Young said it’s how the devices are able to combine power, performance, and a premium look and feel into one. Her Legion Y740, for example, fits well at meetings and in coffee shops because of its sleek, business-like look. Another of Young’s favorites is the Yoga S940, with its impressive nearly bezel-free display.

These products are part of Lenovo’s consumer lineups which recently underwent a premium refresh on their designs. Previously bulky and rugged-looking, the latest IdeaPad, Yoga, and Legion laptops are now sleeker, thinner, and lighter.

Expect to see more of Lenovo’s consumer devices with Megan Young at the forefront. For more updates, follow her on Facebook (@MeganYoungPage) and Instagram (@meganbata).

Wazzup Pilipinas!

AMEM STRONG: DOE Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi (fourth from left) joins the other Energy Ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)

for their signature solidarity pose during the opening of the 37th ASEAN Energy Ministers Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand.

Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi headed the Philippine Delegation for the 37th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM37) and Associated Meetings being held from 2 to 6 September 2019.

Slated for the event is a series of Ministerial Meetings, which includes the AMEM-International Energy Agency Dialogue, AMEM-International Renewable Energy Agency Dialogue, 13th East-Asia Summit Energy Ministers Meeting, and the 16th AMEM+3 Meeting. In addition, the Ministers-CEO Dialogue under the 2019 ASEAN Energy Business Forum, which highlights various energy-related concerns within the ASEAN region and its dialogue partners, would likewise take place.

"The annual AMEM is always a great opportunity for the Philippines to reach out to our ASEAN partners and showcase our most recent achievements in the energy sector. Moreover, we are able to explore potential energy cooperation endeavors to help us attain our energy goals, particularly energy security, equity, and resiliency," Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi said during the AMEM's Opening Ceremony.

With this year's theme "Advancing Energy Transition through Partnership and Innovation", AMEM 37 intends to further strengthen collaboration among ASEAN member countries, their regional partners, and international organizations through the formulation of sustainable solutions that would promote closer regional integration and establish the ASEAN as a major economic block.

At present, the ASEAN has achieved an energy intensity (EI) reduction level of 24.4%, consistent with the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) Strategy target to reduce EI by 20% in 2020. Meanwhile, the renewable energy (RE) share in ASEAN’s Total Primary Energy Supply reached 14.3% in 2017, with the APAEC Strategy calling to increase the RE component in the ASEAN’s Total Primary Energy Mix to 23% by 2025.

On the matter of promoting regional power integration, the ASEAN Energy Ministers noted the supplemental multi-lateral electricity trade among Lao PDR, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore (LTMS) under the Energy Purchase and Wheeling Agreement (EPWA). The Supplementary EPWA upgrades the tradable capacity of Phase 1 of the LTMS Power Integration Project which was signed during the Philippine hosting of AMEM35 in 2017.

Secretary Cusi will also be holding bilateral meetings with the US-ASEAN Business Council, US State Department, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan to advance the Philippines’ energy agenda.

Other members of the official Philippine Delegation to AMEM37 include DOE Senior Undersecretary Jesus Cristino P. Posadas, Assistant Secretary Gerardo D. Erguiza Jr., DOE-Energy Policy and Planning (EPPB) Bureau Director Jesus T. Tamang, and EPPB-Energy Cooperation and Coordination Division Chief Lilian C. Fernandez.

OTHER PHOTOS:

STRONGER TOGETHER: In Sec. Cusi's statement during the AMEM-International Energy Agency Dialogue, he called for ASEAN members to embrace a more active role in joint energy resource development within the region.

He stated that together, the ASEAN could further expand collaboration through its shared borders and common concerns over depleting oil and gas resources.

AMEM37 AND COUNTING: During the Opening Ceremony of AMEM37, Sec. Cusi outlined some of the strides made by the region relative to the targets set in the ASEAN Plan of Action on Energy Cooperation.

Emphasizing the benefits of energy efficiency and conservation, he also shared the recent passage of the Philippines' Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, which was signed by President Rodrigo R. Duterte in May 2019. He also emphasized that the need for the country's energy efficiency goals to go hand-in-hand with the ASEAN’s energy sustainability mission.

Erguiza Jr., during a bilateral meeting held at the sidelines of the event.

The Ultimate Filipino Road Trip In An RV

Wazzup Pilipinas!

If the 120,000 miles of pristine coastlines don’t sell an epic road trip in the Philippines to you, then perhaps the misty mountains and tropical interior will. For travelers, booking a stay in a tropical paradise is one way to experience the lushness of this memorable destination. But there is another way to take it all in, and that is by taking on the long and winding roads in an RV. So pack the snacks and store away the breakables, the archipelago is waiting.

Explore Baguio City To Sagada

While there’s only 80km between these two cities, the scenery is well worth the effort. Consider camping midway to enjoy the undulating scenery as rustic scenery unfolds into a mountainous splendor. This is a road trip where camping on the side of the road to admire the scenery below is a must, and sunrises are worth the stop-over. While Mines View Park offers visitors a great vantage point from the lookout point, it’s just a few kilometers outside Baguio City and travelers are encouraged to explore a bit more. Once in Sagada, visitors can enjoy a day out traversing hilly terrain in a quest for the perfect photo opportunity or spelunking nearby caves.

Beach Resort Hopping On The East Coast

If you’re looking to start your journey in Manila and work your way down to Calatagan, the stops along the way are perfect for endless summer days spent on the beach. The distance is just under 100 kilometers, and along the way, travelers can expect lush tropical beach sites such as Canyon Cove Beach Club, La Primavera Beach Resort, and Stilts Calatagan Beach Resort. Those who don’t necessarily want to fork out the extra cash to stay over at the resorts and prefer to enjoy the amenities as day visitors can stock up their RVs at any of the little towns along the way. It is a good idea to equip RVs with onboard water treatment facilities and solar energy, as not all stops are as well equipped, which compels RV owners to live entirely off the grid.

A Gastronomical Delight

While sights and entertainment play an important part in planning the perfect road trip, another element worth exploring is satisfying those hunger pangs. The province of Pampanga is known as the belly of the Philippines and its quest to become the culinary epicenter of at least the Luzon Island is well underway. But food is not the only thing this province has to offer, as Mount Arayat also happens to be a delightful addition to an itinerary. Apart from providing the perfect backdrop to memorable photos, it also happens to provide lush trails for hikers. The location is quite remote, which makes an RV ideal accommodation.

It won’t take long to explore an entire Filipino island, but that doesn’t mean that travelers won’t have an amazing time doing so. With an RV, a scenic road trip becomes a sublime memory as travelers get to pause at each destination without worries about check-in times and public transport schedules.

Instituto Cervantes' Director General García Montero Arrives in Manila to Close an Exhibition and Present a Book on Spanish Poet Miguel Hernández

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Instituto Cervantes' Director General García Montero arrives in Manila to close an exhibition and present a book on Spanish poet Miguel Hernández

On 16 September 2019, The Undersecretary and Director General of Instituto Cervantes, Luis García Montero, will be arriving from Spain to grace the closing ceremony of the exhibit “Miguel Hernández: In Broad Daylight” at the Intramuros branch of Instituto Cervantes.

García Montero is a poet himself who has won several awards for his works (El jardín extranjero, Habitaciones separadas, La intimidad de la serpiente). He is also a Literature professor who has produced scholarly research and works on Miguel Hernández.

The exhibition, inaugurated last 25 July at the Exhibit Room of Instituto Cervantes, was organized by the Diputación de Jaén (Provincial Government of Jaén) in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the poet’s death. In 2018, the exhibit began its international tour, visiting London, Manchester, New York, Chicago and Dublin. After Manila, the exhibit will be heading to Toulouse and Paris. Being the only Asian city in the international tour of the exhibit, Manila had already been marked as an obligatory destination since the library of Instituto Cervantes Manila is named after the famous Spanish writer.

Born in 1910 in the town of Orihuela in Alicante, Spain, Miguel Hernández was a self-taught poet highly influenced by the classics of the Spanish Golden Age. His book El rayo que no cesa (1936) made him famous in the poetry circles of Madrid, where he had moved to try his luck as a poet. In the capital of Spain he became a friend of Pablo Neruda and had contacts with some members of the literary movement "Generation of 1927", like García Lorca and Vicente Aleixandre. The Civil War did not disrupt his literary career and in fact, during this time, he published Viento del pueblo (1937) and El hombre acecha (1938). After the war, he was arrested and put in jail, where he died in 1942.

Centering on Hernández as an icon of poetry, the exhibit, curated by poet and literary critic Juan José Téllez, offers a glimpse of his life through photographs and digital copies of his works and various documents. The collection also contains original pieces, such as book editions, and facsimiles of manuscripts and letters from the legacy of Miguel Hernández --acquired by the Diputación de Jaén through the writer’s heirs.

Book launching

During the closing ceremony, Instituto Cervantes and De La Salle University will launch the book “Una querencia tengo por tu acento: Four Filipino Writers in Search of Miguel Hernández”. The book launching will be presented by its four authors, namely, Dr. Vicente Garcia Groyon, Dr. Marjorie Evasco, Mr. Joselito Zulueta and Ms. Jessica Zafra.

In this publication, the four Filipino writers recount their experiences in various places in Spain relevant to the prominent Spanish poet. Novelist Vicente Garcia Groyon composes a portrait of Miguel Hernández and highlights the significance of his work, through interviews and visits to the key places in the poet’s life. Marjorie Evasco, on the other hand, recalls aspects of the peculiar and intense journey in translating the poetry of Miguel Hernández into English. For his part, journalist and writer Lito Zulueta talks about Hernández’s works from a different angle, attempting to connect classical literary tradition which had inspired the poet, to the turbulent period in which he lived, and linking the events of that era to contemporary historical events of the Philippines. Lastly, Jessica Zafra’s essay dwells on the danger of oblivion and underlines the importance of preserving “places of memory”, enriching the panoply of Hernandian places by incorporating the city of Jaen, where the poet’s legacy is safeguarded, as well as Quesada, where his wife Josefina Manresa was born. Complementing the essays of the four Filipino writers are contributions from two Spanish authors, Guillermo Carnero and Jesucristo Riquelme.

This book is an initiative of Instituto Cervantes and is published by the De La Salle Publishing House, in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), Fundación Miguel Hernández, Diputación de Jaén, Fundación Legado Miguel Hernández and Turespaña, with the support of Rotary Club Orihuela and Turkish Airlines.

The Exhibit Room of Instituto Cervantes de Manila is located in San Luis Complex, Intramuros, Manila. Entrance to the exhibit is for free. MARINA Conducts Anew Campaign on Rights of Sea Passengers

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) conducted another information awareness campaign on the rights of sea passengers in cases of cancelled, delayed, and/or uncompleted voyages at the Cebu Ports Authority (CPA) in Cebu City today, 05 September 2019.

The campaign, which was formally launched at the Port of Batangas in Batangas City on 11 April 2019, targets to inform sea passengers of their rights, as well as shipping operators of their obligations in cases of trips at sea that cause inconvenience to the riding public.

Through the campaign, the MARINA also ensured the protection of sea passengers against inefficient shipping services, as well as for the promotion of their welfare and safety.

Assistant Secretary Kim Raisa Uy of the Office of the Executive Secretary fully supported the campaign, which is line with the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte to provide convenience, safety, and security to the riding public. "

MARINA Deputy Administrator for Operations (DAO) Nannette Villamor – Dinopol graced the campaign where she emphasized the importance of awareness of sea passengers on their rights.

“Now that we are on the first 'ber' month which signals the start of the Christmas season in the country, we replicated the campaign in Luzon here in Visayas, and next month in Mindanao – for we believe that a nationwide approach to information dissemination yields better and more meaningful impact to our stakeholders,” DAO Villamor-Dinopol said.

For his part, Mr. Alexander Cohon of the Philippine Coastwise Shipping Association (PCSA) expressed their support to the initiatives of the government in uplifting the welfare and safety of the sea passengers.

“It is with gratitude that we accept the challenge of MARINA to offer more comfortable and more convenient transportation services to the riding public. Together with the shipping operators of Cebu, we commit to work hand-in-hand with the government to uphold the rights of our sea passengers in cases of cancelled, delayed, and/or uncompleted voyages,” Cohon said.

Participating government agencies included the Office of the Executive Secretary under the Office of the President, Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) – Cebu, Philippine National Police Maritime Group (PNP-MG) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) – Cebu.

Private stakeholders including the Philippine Coastwise Shipping Association (PCSA), Lite Shipping Corporation, Chelsea Logistics Holdings Corporation, Roble Shipping Incorporated, and Asian Marine Transport Corporation also supported the activity.

Rights of Sea Passengers

Under the campaign, the MARINA emphasizes that sea passengers of a cancelled or delayed voyage have the right to information, as well as the right to refund or right to revalidation of their tickets.

If the sea passengers choose to revalidate their tickets, they may also avail of the right to amenities such as snacks or meals and free accommodation if deemed necessary, while waiting for their rescheduled trip.

The MARINA also clarifies that the right to compensation of sea passengers for a cancelled or delayed voyage applies only if the free accommodation is not practicable for the shipping operator.

Meanwhile, sea passengers of an uncompleted voyage have the right to information, right to amenities, right to compensation, as well as the right to be transported to their destination.

The MARINA notes that the rights of sea passengers are absolutely applicable only if the causes of cancelled, delayed, or uncompleted voyage are attributable to the shipping operator.

The riding public is encouraged to read the MARINA Circular 2018-07 for the terms and conditions of the rights of sea passengers that may be accessed at the official MARINA website (marina.gov.ph).

Passengers are also encouraged to report non-compliance of shipping operators by filing a complaint through these contact details: 0995 400 7336 or +632 521 804.

PHLPost Releases 2019 National Teachers’ Month Stamp

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) releases today, October 05, 2019 new stamps to celebrate the 11th year of National Teachers’ Month from September 05 to October 05, 2019.

The special se-tenant pair (two different designs and face value join together) stamps depicts the logo of “My Teacher, My Hero”, “Excellent!”, and “Thank you, teacher” stamped on the outreached hand of a teacher. The hand in the stamp is being described as the teacher stamped with a seal of Excellence for being our heroes and helping reach our dreams.

Some of the strategies that a teacher will do to inspire her student to excel is by stamping the hand with a star whenever they do something good in school. A teacher will surely award a student with a star.

This year’s theme is “I Teach, That’s My Superpower”. The Metrobank Foundation, Inc. and the Department of Education (DepEd) are in partnership with PHLPost and other organizations to uphold the initiative of giving back due recognition for teachers as humble heroes shaping the minds of the nation. Through PHLPost annual “Salamat Po Letter Writing Competition”, students are encouraged to recognize their teachers and other role models through the art of letter-writing.

The stamps and official first Day covers of “2019 National Teachers’ Month” will be available at the Philatelic Counter, Manila and Metro Manila Post Offices, Postal Area 4, San Pablo, Postal Area 7 Davao and Postal Area 8, Cagayan De Oro City. Graphic Artist Rodine Teodoro designed the 2019 Teachers’ stamp.

Gone Are the Old Days When Trad Media Were Used to Brainwash Us

Wazzup Pilipinas!

“If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed. If you read the newspaper, you’re mis-informed.” Mark Twain

Hhhmmm....is this true?

Back in the old days when there was only trad media, we have no alternative but to gobble up what they report. That is why those who can afford to pay the exorbitant amounts to the publications and networks could advertise, put out an advertorial, or submit their own stories or features, giving a disadvantage to the less fortunate.

Real trad media working for publications, TV and radio networks (otherwise known as mainstream media) should not expect to be paid or get "tokens or complimentary gifts" for covering events especially when they were assigned by their respective trad media outfits to cover the event as part of their job.

Unless it is for a special feature or promotional gig for the brand, but still the payment should be given to the publication or network instead since the trad media is just representing and is receiving a monthly compensation already, and that special feature is obviously a form of advertisement to boost the presence of the brand, so it needs corresponding compensation given to the trad media outfit, and not the trad media personality. However, if he or she was hired as an endorser or ambassador of the brand, then it should be outside the hours of his duty to get full credit for the effort.

Don't be frustrated, if you as a trad media covering an event, would go home without any perks or freebies, because unlike bloggers  (the new media) who are usually working independently as a freelancer who do not receive regular salaries from a trad media outfit, members of the trad media (whether reporter or cameraman, photographer or marketing reps) are already being compensated by their respective trad media outfits.

But this culture within trad media outfits is terribly unappealing and prone to biased and special treatments especially when they receive hefty amounts often called "honorariums" from PRs, the brand itself, or from the event organizers. The trad media write-ups and stories will be favorable only to the generous, and less mileage are usually given for the rest. Also, unless it is a top personality, trad media will often look the other way if the brand is stingy. They may not even let your story come out.

This is why trad media is accused of being "bayaran" because they readily accept all forms of "tokens of appreciation" from everyone capable to pay without any hesitation.

If we want to avoid "fake news", stop pampering trad media!

Again, only bloggers would need a push to sustain their online activities since they are mostly working independently as freelancers. Stop kissing the asses of those reporters and camera men. Stop this appalling culture within trad media outfits!

Even giving trad media, especially the top three TV networks, priority to interviews is already a form of discrimination to others in the same field but belonging to smaller outfits...and giving them special access or additional perks encourages unfair practices.

Just as how government employees are discouraged from accepting gifts, members of the trad media has responsibilities that are equally critical and sensitive. Let us be assured that their stories are in their truest form. Stop pampering trad media. Mali ang katwiran na may bayad dapat ang trad media para sipaging ilabas ang balita about you.

If you believe your brand is great and deserving of a coverage, real trad media will come to cover and put out the stories or news about your events, products or services, without the need to give out "pampadulas", "pangkape", pangmerienda, or "pangyosi"

Now, social media has empowered all of us to fully engage and communicate with almost everyone connected to the Internet. Feedback is immediate, and we could quickly rebutt a claim. Even the masses could easily buy a smartphone, connect to the Internet, and post anything online or at the various social media networks.

The ability to share our thoughts to the rest of the world has made each one of us the bearer and propagator of our own news. No longer relying on a few sources because everyone else around the world could inform and help us verify reports.

In our home, the smart TV is used to just watch online content. Gone is the prominence of trad media. No more TV shows, no more radio shows, no more magazines or newspaper, all online!

Having the Backbone to Stand-up Against a Corrupt Government

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Those who remain neutral must finally take sides or forever be branded as multiple-faced weaklings only fitting to be among the low-lives of this existence.

The reason why this world remains to have despotic rulers is because many do not have the backbone to stand-up against tyrranical beings.

Let us put these despots at their rightful place where they could do less harm. Deracinate them immediately so they would not spread like parasites plaguing our lands.

We should all take a perspicacious approach on our criticisms against the administration. Politics has been the dirtiest in every textbook and testimonial that everyone, even the past administrations, involved in it has their own dirty little, or big, sercrets. Lies and deception has been among the negative traits in their culture that noone is a total exception.

Politicians are supposed to be our bitches. But they've been fucking us in the ass throughout the years, while most of us still fake our orgasms just to get their favorable side..

I just hope life was as easy as conveniently flying off to the nearest beach to just bum all day with no worries in mind. But that would never be the case for many of us until we've all grown the right size of balls to stop being pussies and learn to stand up against these cunts.

Seriously, we are all forever fucked if we continue to be so gullible in swallowing their promises of change.

Misguided men of ambition will never change!

Tanong ng Bloggers: May Budget Ba Yan?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Honestly, nakaka turn-off yung mag-iinvite ka sa isang event tapos unang tanong ay may budget ba yan.

But I do understand where bloggers are coming from.

Most of us are working independently as freelancers so mahirap pumunta sa isang event ng walang marereceive kahit pang-Grab or taxi man lang.

We are passionate about our blogging, but if the mind and body would be stressed in finding   the budget to spend for our everyday living, we could lose our motivation and just look for more productive alternatives to spend our time.

In short, hindi po namin kayang mabuhay sa palaging tokens or ex-deal ang kapalit ng amoing services.

"If being bibo is a sickness, please pray for my recovery"

A modest 400k+ monthly views on my blog, 28k+ subscribers on YouTube and 17k+ followers on Facebook, the many awards from different award-giving bodies, a bevy of local and international contributors and invites to media/blogger events, plus the numerous partnerships we have as media partner for many brands, expos, trade shows, etc., several TV and radio guestings, plus the trust and collaboration with many brands and industries within and outside rhe country, including government agencies and colleges & universities, we could humbly say we are already there among the "influencers" level since we obviously have reached so many readers and followers, despite rarely posting controversial, scandalous, or even showbiz-related stories, that are usually done as the strategy of most of the online sites aside from their clickbait headlines, just to attract more curious people to click on their links and read their stories.

We would like to thank our partners, sponsors, correspondents, followers, and everyone else in this team, or should I say community, better yet family seems more appropriate, for being there for us.

We are here for you, so do not hesitate to reach out to us and just holler out our name.

The entire world would soon be doing the iconic Wazzup Pilipinas shout-out!

Male by Birth, Female by Heart, and Other Variations of LGBTQIA+

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Many would still detest, but our society has accepted them.

Prominence in showbiz as stand-up comedians then to co-hosting on TV shows and movies mostly to provide comic reliefs.

The usual visibility at parlors or salons as hairdressers or make-up artists leveling up to fashion designers, directors, and other creative industries.

Then penetrated beauty pageants normally for real women.

Now even government offices.

Maybe more in the near future.

However, this acceptance should still have limits since overbearing demands for equal treatment same to that of real female by births would never totally happen.

Maraming kokontra dito....for sure. But let me get personal. Maybe too personal. But necessary so you would understand where I am coming from.

Pero those tendencies were changed kasi natuto ako na boys should behave like boys....and maraming girls kasi na nagsabing type nila ako...hahaha... everywhete I go, may nagkakagusto raw sa akin. During JS Prom pa nga may lumapit para makipagsayaw. Lol.

Nagpanic lang talaga ako at nagmadaling sumakay pauwi!

Medyo traumatic sa akin yung mga last experiences ko with gay persons but I've moved on na rin naman.

Instead of accepting our weakness and capitalizing on.our strengths, iniiba natin kaya lalong gumugulo buhay.

All Gender restrooms can now be used, but still one at a time, by any gender, whether Male, Female, or LGBTQIA+WXYZ ... and all colors of the rainbow ROYGBIV.

We accept that we live with people with diverse inclinations and personalities, but please do not intrude too much on our comfort zones.

There should always be a limit to everything, and since we have been brought up following the norms and standards, we can't possibly have all coz the supposedly request against anti-discrimination then becomes a demand for special treatment.

We'll give you a place to do your stuff, but also allow us to be ourselves.

If LGBTs were not able to accept themselves when they were born with their genders and features, how could they make everyone else unconditionally accept them?

Please do not drown your real identities regardless of sex change operations. We all know in mind that men will be men, and women will be women in the eyes of the Lord.

50 Shades of Ross Del Rosario this October

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I'm almost half a century old, but I'm getting better and stronger as I approach it. So here's another lengthy post from a fruitful and meaningful life filled with bountiful blessings.

No need to keep my age a secret, because only the weak hides his age. But in my case, when my age was asked, I would jokingly say 25. But that's exactly how I feel. The same age when I got married.. so it also means my wife and I will be celebrating our silver anniversary - 25 years in marriage this November 2019, actually I loved her so much that I married her twice - civil and then church wedding within the same year. Before man and God.

Do you want to know my real fountain of youth? It is of course being married to my better half, the love of my life, the one who has stayed by my side inspite of all the struggles trying to fit in a society that do not understand misfits like me. I was an introvert with deviant ways, weird and strange to many, unpredictable and moody to some.

Yes, I'm more of the misfit who would frequently get off the usual path to try out other roads and discover their secret or hidden features, yet the eccentric also for being so unconventional and slightly bewildering, maybe eclectic is the more appropriate adjective to describe me since I would derive my ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources. Too broad that I often get lost in a chaotic pursuance of perfection.

But all I could say is that I would have been a very different person if not for my wife's patience and understanding. I am indeed a rare, if not genuinely one of a kind, breed of dreamers who would often look at the skies to daydream about the possibilities. Gazing at the people around me every now and then wondering if others think like me too. My search for like-minded individuals continue.

I never stopped daydreaming. I guess I never will. But I'm proud to say that I've already left a legacy online to serve as a mark on history being the self-proclaimed Pambansang Blogger but truly living my life as what that branding would literally mean.

Yes, your National Blog of the Philippines would maintain its effort to be world-renowned and globally competitive, if not already, so that the world would remember me by as the man who made a noble effort to influence the mindset of brainwashed and confused people. Regardless of the difficulty with so many pretentious personalities spreading false hopes and promises, I will serve as your hero that will holler the iconic Wazzup Pilipinas shout-out, deafening to only those who seek to destroy our lifelong dreams.

All the rest are mostly noise, and mine aims to be the most inspiring to encourage others to reach out, engage and touch lives. Doing the iconic shout-out is a wake-up call to everyone who may have overslept and lost the will to persist.

Less talk, less mistakes. But our erring ways is what makes us real and human given the free will to control his own fate. We are all destined for greatness, it is just sometimes we forget to pause for a while and reflect on our achievements. We may have been already basking on the definition of success yet our unquenchable thirst for perfection is whats keeping us to want more. Never satisfied, always searching for the best version of ourselves.

Life was not meant for us to keep on hoarding. Our lives were meant to be shared and appreciated by all.

Please always remember that I will never grow tired and weak of doing the iconic Wazzup Pilipinas shout-out with you!

Congratulations to us all.

The Wide-eyed Bee Mascot is Still a "Singkit" Inside

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We've fallen down the deepest bottom without any chance of surviving if we even consider fastfood like fried chicken and burgers to proudly symbolize Pinoy cuisine.

We all know they were copied from Western fastfood chains yet why are we pushing for that certain fastfood symbolized by a bee and their mostly greasy dishes as among our Philippine pride and joy.

Jollibee is from Chinese businessmen turned Filipino Chinese as their businesses continued to prosper and their families multiplied in the country. Admittedly they've grown huge, yet the food they sell could not really be attributed to Philippine soil and culture.

Their junk food is among the number one source of obesity aside from the softdrinks that they offer with their value meals.

They also only started regularizing some of their crew when several years have passed they've profited on contractuals only.

The rest of their bussinesses are mostly gotten from buying out their competitors or to gain new opportunities in the food industry.

I used to work for the said fastfood chain during my college days and back then we used to still serve catsup and mustard in plastic squeeze bottle condiment dispensers we would put back in plastic jars and stored inside the fridge at every end of the day, and all the crew in both kitchen, counter and dining area, except supervisors and managers, were only young college students needed to work to fund their education. Majority of the management were obviously Chinese based on their last names, and the crew were all Filipinos. Got my point?

Now they have small catsup sachets (not even enough to cover an entire beef patty, no more mustard, and still employing college students to serve us. And their management are still mostly Chinese. But they've grown so big there's a branch in almost every busy street corner nationwide and beyond.

Their growth is indeed phenomenal but I would question their being Filipino since their rise to fame and fortune was not due to any Filipino traits but more of their Chinese heritage just as how the mall tycoons Sy, Gokongwei, and the rest of the big names from other industries proliferated in our country.

Well, congratulations to Jollibee for its success among Filipinos, but it should not represent Filipino cuisine. The bee could wear a barong all day but he is still not authentic Filipino since his "parents" were Chinese. Again, the wide-eyed mascot is still a "singkit" inside.

How I wish there would be a true Pinoy brand from true Filipino origins to emerge above these Chinese brands. Could we still be able to uplift businesses truly managed by Filipinos and offering authentic Pinoy food among the top restaurants in the world? We could only do that if we primarily support local Filipino brands. That is the only time we could be totally proud of a globally competitive company.
