Wazzup Pilipinas!
The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) and Thailand has unveiled special postage stamp designs featuring their countries’ national animals, the Philippine’s Carabao and the revered Thai Elephant to celebrate the 70th anniversary of friendship and close diplomatic ties.
His Excellency Vasin Ruangprateepsaeng, Ambassador of the Royal Kingdom of Thailand to the Philippines, Undersecretary Enrique Manalo, Department of Foreign Affairs and PHLPost Assistant Postmaster General Luis D. Carlos led the formal launching ceremonies held at Department of Foreign Affairs, Pasay City yesterday, June 14, 2019.
The carabao and the elephant were selected not only for their status as the national animals of the Philippines and Thailand, but also for the values they emulate. The sacred “Elephant” symbolizes Thailand’s glorious history and culture, and our humble
“Carabao” stands for the strength and perseverance of the people of the Philippines.
Both famous animals featured in stamps are symbols of strong friendship of both countries which was formally established on June 14, 1949.
Philippines-Thailand relationships have progressed across various areas including economics, commerce, security and cultural matters. Thailand is one of the Philippines’ major trading partners.
The two countries are founding members of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) which was established in Bangkok, Thailand in 1967.
The stamps and souvenir first day cover envelope of the 70th Anniversary of the Philippines-Thailand Diplomatic Relations postage stamps are now available at the Philatelic Counter, Manila Central Post Office in Liwasang Bonifacio.
