The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) released new commemorative stamps featuring the City Government of General Santos to commemorate its 50th Cityhood Anniversary.
General Santos City is a First class highly urbanized city in Mindanao. Formerly known as Dadiangas, the city is named after General Paulino Santos, a former Commanding General of the Philippine Army.
Postmaster General Joel Otarra said that aside from being the Tuna Capital of the Philippines, General Santos City has a great variety of unique travel destinations with countless beautiful places, and more importantly, a sense of history and a dynamic, cultural diversity.
He added that it is only fitting to recognize the efforts of the city government to highlight this important milestones by issuing four (4) different designs of commemorative stamps to show the rich history, places, marine life and the world famous Tuna of General Santos City.
The launching and unveiling of the 50thAnniversary Commemorative Stamp was participated by General Santos City Mayor Ronnel C.Rivera and Postmaster General Joel L. Otarra.
PHLPost has printed 60,000 copies of the four (4) colorful designed stamps by PHLPost in-house graphic designer Victorino Z. Serevo which is being sold at P12.00 each.
The stamps and official first day cover will be available starting today at the Philatelic Counter, Central Post Office, Liwasang Bonifacio, Manila and selected Area Post Offices nationwide. For inquiries, please call 527-01-32.
