A documentary which focuses on the daily routine of hypebeasts will compete at the 17th Hyperfest International Student Film Festival in Bucharest, Romania from November 2 to 11.
How the Beasts Got Hyped, a film by Elvin Jay Macanlalay, Bryan Marticio and Mars Sanchez, is about people who are "beasts" (obsessed) about the "hype" (in fashion), and their mutual interest for street style fashion, which creates a sense of community among its followers.
Macanlalay, Marticio and Sanchez are recent advertising graduates from the University of the East College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design. The documentary is their final project in the video production class of mentor Richard Legaspi.
The film has been previously selected to be part of the Nabunturan Independent Film Exhibition or Nabifilmex at the Nabunturan Municipal Plaza last September and the 30th Gawad CCP Independent Film and Video Festival last August at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Tanghalang Manuel Conde or CCP Dream Theater.
Hyperfest, the official international student film festival of the Hyperion University in Bucharest, is one of the longest running events of its kind in Romania.
The festival aims to promote student films from all over the world and to facilitate networking among them in support of the new generation of filmmakers. Romanian actor and director Geo Saizescu started Hyperfest in November 2001.
