Wazzup Pilipinas!
With 5 hurricanes previously ravaging the Caribbean region, there is no surprise that there would be organizations that would be calling out for help to aid the afflicted areas. This includes a call for business ventures from other countries as the Caribbean could also be a prime target for opportunities in many possible fields.
At a networking night held on November 29, 2017 at One CafĂ© of One Corporate Center located in Ortigas Center, Pasig city, we’ve learned that the event was organized to get together like-minded individuals sharing the same hope and passion towards believing that the Caribbean could also be a preferred destination not only for tours, but for business opportunities as well. They are inviting potential investors to take a second look at the Caribbean as a potential investment.
Since the Caribbean had its share of devastation brought about by the destructive nature, it would also mean that the rise and development from the rubbles could also require several demands on many areas like infrastructure, medicine, agriculture, etc.,
Traveling to the Caribbean via cruise ship, or traversing the roads of its islands and mingling with the residents, could then be more than just a great experience, and surely not as feared as what we see in movies like the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise starred by Johnny Depp where dirty pirates loomed in the seas seeking victims to loot, rape and kill. The real life offers a lot more beauty and hope for a more rewarding adventure.
Check out the videos we shared on our social media pages like YouTube and Facebook to see exclusive interviews with the Executive Director, and a video coverage of his talk at the event explaining in detail more information about the Caribbean opportunity.
Below is the official press release from the event:
The Eastern Caribbean-Southeast Asia Economic and Cultural Chamber, in partnership with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, the British Chamber of Commerce Philippines, and the Australian-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce Philippines, hosted its first Business Briefing and Networking Night in the Southeast Asian region. Entitled “Beyond the Cruise Ship: Exploring Opportunities In The Eastern Caribbean: A Business Briefing and International Networking Night” was recently held on November 29, 2017 in Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines for the benefit of the Eastern Caribbean victims of Hurricanes’ Irma and Maria.
The Chamber is a non-governmental organization that’s part of the SIDS Global Business Network administered by the UN-OHRLLS and corresponds to Antigua & Barbuda, the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia and St. Vincent & the Grenadines, all of which are small island developing states in the Eastern Caribbean. The organization aims to bridge these sovereign countries in the areas of tourism, trade relations and investment with the growing economies in the ASEAN region.
The post-hurricane experience of many islands in the Caribbean prompted the Chamber to implement this activity to not only spark interest in these Eastern Caribbean nations but more importantly, to raise awareness of the effects of climate change and the importance of instigating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Honourable Executive Director and Envoy for Diplomatic Affairs of the Chamber, Matthew Pajares Yngson, informed the attendees about the different business opportunities in the wider Caribbean region. With its highly skilled workforce coupled with the continuous growth in various sectors of financial services, tourism, agriculture and ICT among others and the vast luxury destinations around the region, the Caribbean is a region with numerous potential waiting to be explored by companies, business persons and tourists from across the ASEAN region.
Among the other presentations disclosed at the event included a showcase by the Harvey Law Group on the benefits of acquiring citizenship through investment in the Eastern Caribbean states. An important presentation was also shown regarding specific business opportunities in each of the countries highlighting the relevance of regional` trade agreements of the Eastern Caribbean Economic Union with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Economic Partnership Agreement with the European Union and Caribbean Forum (CARIFORUM).
In the spirit of camaraderie and oneness with the victims of Hurricanes’ Irma and Maria, attendees were also requested to donate directly through the websites of Halo Foundation Antigua & Barbuda (www.foundationhalo.org) and the official Dominica Relief Fund (www.dominicarelief.org). These entities help in the rebuilding efforts of Antigua’s sister island of Barbuda and the country of Dominica.
