Wazzup Pilipinas!
When friends stand by you at all times, you would somehow hear these lyrics from the Awit ng Barkada OPM song of Apo Hiking Society.
"Nandirito kami, ang barkada mong tunay
Aawit sa 'yo
Sa lungkot at ligaya, hirap at ginhawa
Kami'y kasama mo"
Yup, I grew up singing the songs of Jim Paredes, Danny Javier and Boboy Garovillo. This is why our latest episode of Wazzup Pilipinas Radio is special for me. Their campus tour concert at our college during my freshman year was my first attendance to a concert. I have all their albums but were unfortunately damaged when the Ondoy flood reached our home. For me their music was really "music to my ears." Walang itatapon. Lahat magaganda.
Eh mayroon akong radio show ng ala-sais ng umaga, so that would mean I have to sleep for only a couple of hours. However, I did not dare sleep anymore because I was afraid I won't wake up on time. I needed to wake up as early as 3 am so I could prepare kasi for the Sunday episodes of Wazzup Pilipinas Radio, and eventhough I have my co-hosts, I did not want to miss out on this particular episode because one of our guest is Jim Paredes of the iconic Apo Hiking Society.
Both events were special for me since I value every opportunity that comes my way. First, I got VIP tickets for the coronation night thanks to one of the sponsors - Paul Izon Reyes, the owner of Rufo's Famous Tapa.
Next is the opportunity to host my own radio show named after my own blog. I am grateful to our producer for trusting me with this task. He has plenty of choices, but he gave me a slot to be among his trusted hosts.
Thus, each and every opportunity I get should never be wasted even if it means depriving myself of some sleep. This lifetime is short so we have to make the best of it and leave a legacy that is worth remembering.
Speaking of legacies, it is without any doubt that the Apo Hiking Society has even gone beyond making a mark in our history as among our top-notch singers during their time. Their songs are still epic when you hear them. They bring back memories of days when lyrics where given special meaning and effort to make. Unlike nowadays when songwriters are satisfied with repeating the same lines over and over again.
But we still do get quality songs, though very rare. The only disappointment is that many Filipinos still find the foreign music more fascinating than OPM. There are just so many great singers out there but the ones who progress to stardom are those that have brought themselves down to "commercial" value.
We had a very interesting discussion with Jim Paredes, however the Internet connections at the radio station were faulty during our time slot so the livestreaming on Facebook Live was not available. Because of this unfortunate circumstance, he deserves a second guesting.
Thus we tried our best to share the YouTube link on our respective Facebook pages so others may see the show.
Wazzup Pilipinas Radio hosts are Ross Del Rosario (Ang Pambansang Blogger), David D'Angelo (Master Pogi), Sarah Muyco (Millennial Momshie), and Ayla De Joya (Ate ng Bayan)

Aside from singer, songwriter, artist Jim Paredes, we also had Rodel Ambas, Content Head of Lamudi Philippines, as guest to promote their Lamudi Affordable Housing Fair happening that weekend, and he also engaged with us during the discussion as he is also a fan of the Apo Hiking Society.
We also had a third guest, Orly Ballesteros of Ex-Link Management and Marketing Services, but he was incommunicado for phone patch, and said his mobile phone had a "problem."
