When Crystal Jade Dining In at Bonifacio Global City offered a Shanghai Night themed dinner only for the night of March 17, 2017, I made sure I would be there so I could experience what they mentioned as a scrumptious feast of authentic Shanghai-inspired menu.
The big bonus that made me crave for the dining opportunity is the live performance of the Kim Hwa Chinese Music Ensemble, which is something you don't normally see, and hear, while you're enjoying dinner time.
When most restaurants would just play soothing background music, Crystal Jade Dining In hired the Kim Hwa Chinese music ensemble to serenade the diners. We were also surprised to hear them playing the song "Reflection" made popular by the Disney animated movie "Mulan."
The dishes included in the package are Xiao Long Bao, Deep-fried Crispy Beef with Sesame, West Lake Minced Beef Thick Soup, Deep-fried Shrimp with Garlic, Deep-fried Fresh Garoupa in Sweet & Sour Sauce, Braised Minced Pork & Mushroom with Cabbage, Fried Mixed Rice in Hot Stone Pot, and Chilled Avocado Pudding. You have to admit they are incredibly sumptuous for a hefty dinner.
There's quite a number of fried dishes in the list which is something my family adores especially my wife who loves fried dishes. They are also heavy meals starting from the thick soup and all the way to the pudding. Plus it can be considered a complete meal since there's beef, pork, seafood, and vegetables.
The specially priced Shanghai Night Set Menu is good for 4 persons so invite the whole family and friends over for a dazzling feast amidst that Shanghai vibe! Php4,800 for 8 dishes is surely cost-worthy!
The ambiance alone is enough to put us in a swell mood. It surely is a lot more soothing to dine at night when the lights bring out the real charm of the place. Though it's equally beautiful during the day, the place becomes a lot more magical at night time especially when there's a live source of entertainment to further sooth you while you dine.

The Kim Hwa Chinese Music Ensemble |
There's a special menu listing the Shanghai Night dinner where you could see the names of the dishes, with some pictures of the five dishes at the left side.
As always, the table setup is elegantly arranged and you'll be treated with boiled peanuts as complimentary while you wait for the dishes to be served.
|
West Lake Minced Beef Thick Soup |
We are off to a good start with the
West Lake Minced Beef Thick Soup which is indeed thick that it is already quite filling. The taste is also superb that it surely brings out an appetite.
|
Deep-fried Crispy Beef with Sesame |
My kids loved the
Deep-fried Crispy Beef with Sesame, though it was last on my list since I prefer it to be crispy as bacon. The sesame was a good touch to add a very interesting taste.
|
Xiao Long Bao |
The four-piece
Xiao Long Bao has always been good at every visit at Crystal jade Dining In since it is among their specialties. You'll definitely enjoy this authentic Chinese dish treat.
|
Braised Minced Pork & Mushroom with Cabbage |
The
Braised Minced Pork & Mushroom with Cabbage is like two large meatballs with cabbages and mushrooms. The braised minced pork is surprisingly so good that I wanted more than just a quarter portion of the serving since the dish was meant to be shared by four people.
|
Deep-fried Shrimp with Garlic |
I am biased to seafood so I was expecting to love the
Deep-fried Shrimp with Garlic, but unfortunately it was not as tasty as I expected it. Maybe because there's just four pieces so I have to do with just one piece so everyone would get to try it. That one piece was not enough for me to relish the taste which for me was not spicy enough to delight my taste buds. For me it needs more salt and butter to taste, something which I am looking for when indulging on this kind of dish.
|
Fried Mixed Rice in Hot Stone Pot |
The
Fried Mixed Rice in Hot Stone Pot was quite interesting as the food servers mixed it for us, divided into four and served in individual bowls. It was a perfect match for the viands served.
|
Deep-fried Fresh Garoupa in Sweet & Sour Sauce |
The Deep-fried Fresh Garoupa in Sweet & Sour Sauce deserves to be the centerpiece of the dinner. The Garoupa or "Lapu-Lapu" is truly delectable with the sweet & sour sauce that brings out an awesomely flavorful taste.
|
Chilled Avocado Pudding |
Lastly, the
Chilled Avocado Pudding successfully ends the dinner treat with a more than spectacular dessert. It was not too sweet but perfectly creamy.
Thank you
Crystal Jade Dining In for the dinner treat for me and my family. There's no arguing that the dining experience was indeed memorable. The experience was boosted by the presence of the Kim Hwa Chinese music ensemble who added a pleasurable background music that made the dinner a lot more elegant. There's absolutely nothing comparable to live music entertainment where you could even request. Seeing the entertainers on a personal basis makes the night more intimate, and naturally much more appealing for the customers. Of course, the entertainment is merely complementary to equally elegant dishes that should be the prime decision maker if one would want to return for more.
Many the awesome food, I love Shanghai, it's delicious
