Hall M: A First-Ever Marvel Showcase in Asia Launched at AsiaPOP Comicon
Wazzup Pilipinas!
AsiaPOP Comicon Manila 2016 (APCC Manila) — touted to be the biggest three-day pop-culture extravaganza slated on August 26 to 28 at SMX Convention Center in Pasay City — will unveil Hall M, a showcase of Marvel content in the fields of gaming, television, and movies.
Universal Events and Entertainment, the organizer of APCC Manila, has tied up with Marvel for this exclusive, first-of-its-kind showcase at any convention in Asia. Hall M is expected to excite fans as nothing gets geeks' blood pumping like the word 'exclusive'.
Imagine sights, sounds, and all other spectacles one might see and hear ahead of the rest of the world, or awesomeness the rest of the world may never see or hear. It's this thrill that makes people wait long hours, endure snaking lines, and try to secure slots by hook or crook.
“As a group we enjoy a global strategic alliance with Marvel on multiple fronts and so we are glad to be able to extend our partnership by offering never seen before Marvel content to die-hard fans and geeks in the Philippines. This will be first-of-its-kind Marvel showcase at a pop culture convention and visitors will be able to witness an epic exhibit of multiple surprises at this year’s AsiaPOP Comicon Manila.” said Abdulla Mahmood, Director - Marketing and Business Development of Al Ahli Holding Group (AAHG). Universal Events & Entertainment is a subsidiary of AAHG.
Fans will be treated to never-before-seen footage outside of San Diego Comic Con of Marvel’s upcoming Doctor Strange film at APCC Manila’s Hall M, including content from Marvel’s television and web series. Hall M is limited up to 1,000 attendees.
For C.B. Cebulski, Marvel's Vice President of International Development & Brand Management, he said, "I'm thrilled to be coming back to APCC Manila this year! Given the overwhelming fan response to last year's Captain America: Civil War trailer debut, Marvel is letting me bring even more fantastic footage with me, this time from all of our different divisions, to showcase at our extended ‘Hall M’ extravaganza! Some clips being shown for the first time! It's all still a secret, but just know that Hall M is guaranteed to be a one-of-a-kind Marvel experience in Manila!”. Cebulski is returning to APCC Manila this year to once again scout the best artistic talent in the country.
APCC Manila 2016 tickets are now available via SM Tickets—made possible by its partner SM Group—with ticket prices PhP550 (one-day pass), PhP850 (two-day pass), and PhP1,050 (three-day pass). The event is free for children aged five and below for all days, but a valid identification is required for verification purposes before entering the show floor.

Shoot, Eat and Run at The Bistro Group of Restaurants
Citibank and Zomato recently organized a food run at 12 Bistro Group of restaurants for foodies. The food run featured feasting on the many appetizers, starters, salads, and other delightful dishes of all 12 Bistro Group of restaurants at selected branches namely 6 in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Tagig city, 2 in Greenbelt in Makati city, and 4 at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) complex in Pasay city.
The food run is part of the promotional effort of the companies to invite Citibank cardholders to take advantage of the 30% off on selected Bistro Group of restaurant dishes. This is also to encourage non-Citibank cardholders to avail of the credit card if they want to experience the unique gastronomic adventure too.
Citibank has been known to offer their clients superb deals and this is just one of their many perks for their valued cardholders.
Shoot, eat and run - for we had to visit 6 restaurants per half day starting at 2 pm. This happened for two days making it a total of 12 restaurants of the Bistro Group. Needless to say it was a heavenly food coma where I would gladly keep sleeping if it will go on for more than two days. I'm excited for a similar food run in the coming days....and knowing Zomato, they would surely repeat this gastronomic adventure.
Ed Stafford Marooned Again in Palawan on Discovery Channel
Wazzup Pilipinas!
Adventurer and survivalist Ed Stafford is back, pushing his survival skills to the limit and pitting himself once again versus Mother Nature in the brand new second season of MAROONED, premiering August 30, 8:10pm on Discovery Channel. Watch as Ed tackles six new challenges in which he is left high and dry in some of the most inhospitable and extreme environments – equipped with nothing but an emergency phone, medical kit and his camera to record his adventures.
Shot in remote locations ranging from the arid and rocky Gobi Desert in Mongolia to the tropical jungles of Guatemala and the Namibian bushveld, each location presents a unique and deadly test as Ed strives to not just survive, but thrive in some of the world’s toughest environments.
Having become the first man to walk the length of the Amazon in an incredible 860 day feat featured in Discovery Channel series WALKING THE AMAZON, and having spent 60 days alone with just a camera on a desert island for NAKED AND MAROONED, Ed is back again, putting his life in danger as he proves to himself that he can devise a plan to survive in any environment.
Helen Hawken, Vice President Production & Development at Discovery Networks International, commented: “This new season captures Ed doing what he does best – pushing his survival skills to the limits in his true inimitable style. Despite crossing the Amazon and spending 60 days alone on a deserted island, Ed still manages to prove that he can survive and even thrive in even more inhospitable terrains than ever before.”
MAROONED is produced for Discovery Networks International by Tigress Productions. For Discovery Networks International, Helen Hawken is commissioning editor and Tom Gorham is executive producer. For Tigress Productions, Dick Colthurst is executive producer and Tim Walker is series producer.
Marooned With Ed Stafford 2 – Series
Description
On the back of his incredible 860-day
feat traversing the jungle featured in Discovery Channel series Walking the Amazon and 60 days spent
alone with just a camera on a desert island for Naked and Marooned, Ed Stafford faced eight of the world’s toughest
environments in Marooned and is now
back with this all-new second installment of the series.
In each self-contained episode of Marooned, Ed goes into isolation for
approximately 10 days in a remote and potentially deadly location. He’s
completely on his own – unless extreme circumstances take hold. All he’s got is
a camera to capture his adventure and his survival know-how.
There are critical things every
survivor must master in their first few days, starting with water, shelter,
food and fire. Ed must rapidly assess his situation and draw up a survival plan
that takes him beyond the basics to being in control of himself and his
environment. No two episodes are the same as Ed confronts challenges unique to
each environment that require him to use every survival trick in the book.
Each location – Mongolia’s Gobi
Desert, Guatemala and Namibia – arid rocky desert, tropical jungle, and unique
African forest – is difficult and dangerous in a different way and requires Ed
to adopt different strategies in each place.
Episode Descriptions
Philippines – Tuesday 30Th August (PH 8.10pm)
Ed is
in The Philippines, on Coron Island, attempting to survive on a secluded beach.
The seashore is covered in litter, potentially useful for survival but a
depressing reminder of the state of our seas. Ed hasn’t been abandoned on an
island since his ordeals on Naked and
Marooned and when he gets seriously ill, he starts to struggle with ghosts
from the past. Lying on his sick bed of palm leaves, Ed realizes that if
he doesn’t push himself to find water and food quickly this survival mission is
over. But hemmed in by towering granite cliffs he’s concerned there may be no
water to be found.
Argentine Patagonia – Tuesday 6th September (PH 8.10pm)
Dropped
deep in the foothills of the Andes in Argentine Patagonia, Ed faces extreme
exposure to both intense sunlight and freezing temperatures as the southern
hemisphere unleashes a torrent of meteorological abuse at him. Making camp in a
mountain river valley, he subsists on a diet of wild woodland salad, tadpoles
and ant eggs before getting to grips with tickling trout in the fish-rich
waters. In a final demonstration of thriving, he builds an automated fishing
system and creates a living larder to keep his food source alive in preparation
for a final evening mega-meal.
Norway – Tuesday 13th September (PH 8.10pm)
Ed
changes course and heads north towards the Arctic Circle being dropped on top
of a snow covered mountain in the western fjords of Norway. This is the first
time Marooned has ever been to a truly cold location. The conditions are so
extreme/cold that Ed is compelled to wear clothes, but as usual takes no food,
tools or knife. Before entering isolation Ed undergoes special ice training to
prepare him for the dangers that lie ahead. He faces a new set of
challenges having to build a shelter that will protect him from the
inhospitable weather and battling to keep his fire alight on the sodden
ground. He’s under constant risk of hypothermia and the rising spring
tide threatens his home.
Talent Biography: Ed Stafford
Ed
Stafford is the Guinness World Record holding first man to walk the length of
the Amazon River, a journey documented in the Discovery Channel series Walking
the Amazon. Ed is an established adventurer and survivalist for
Discovery, presenting – and self-filming – flagship series such as Marooned
and Into the Unknown.
Born
in Peterborough, England, Ed was adopted as a baby by his parents Jeremy and
Barbara Stafford. Educated at Stoneygate School, Leicester, Uppingham
School in Rutland, and at Newcastle University, Ed earned a position in the
prestigious commissioning course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and
was commissioned as a British Army Officer in July 1999.
Ed
went on to command platoons in the Devonshire and Dorset Regiment, gaining his
Northern Ireland medal in 2000 for his tour of Crossmaglen, South Armagh. Ed’s
happiest military years were spent as an instructor at RTC Lichfield where he
oversaw several hundred Army recruits through their basic training. Ed left the
military in 2002 as a captain.
After
leaving the Army, Ed used his leadership and outdoor skills as an expedition
leader with the former charity Trekforce. He led groups of volunteers on
community and conservation expeditions into the jungles of Belize, Guatemala
and Borneo, and was eventually promoted to Country Director of Trekforce in
Belize, overseeing all in-country operations.
Following
a role as a United Nations contractor advising UN electoral workers on
planning, logistics and security during Afghanistan’s first ever presidential
elections, Ed decided to return to expeditions. Ed took on a new challenge –
setting up extreme cold weather expeditions in Patagonia, Argentina, for the
expedition company GVI. Ed was Director of Programmes in Argentina and ran the
Argentinian branch of GVI, carrying out scientific research projects and
Northern Ice Cap traverses in Chile.
In
2007, Ed was offered work with the BBC’s Natural History Unit. Ed was
contracted to fly into Guyana and manage the construction of a filming base
camp in the heart of the Guyanese rainforest. Ed managed 35 Amerindians over
this construction period then became the camp’s logistics manager when the film
crew arrived nine weeks later to start filming Lost Land of the Jaguar,
in which Ed appears briefly giving a safety brief to the presenters in the
opening program.
In
Ed’s first program with Discovery, Walking the Amazon, he took on an
860-day trek along the Amazon River. This was the longest jungle expedition
ever attempted and the first time in history that anyone has walked this entire
route. His Guinness World Record breaking feat made headlines the world over
and was described by Sir Ranulph Fiennes as ‘truly extraordinary…in the top
league of expeditions past and present.’ It shifted Ed’s focus from managing
and leading teams in dangerous environments to using his expedition skills to
educate people about environmental matters and to inspire others to achieve the
seemingly impossible.
In
2011, Ed was awarded ‘European Adventurer of the Year’ in a ceremony in
Stockholm, Sweden; and in 2012 he received the ‘Charlie Burton Award’ from Sir
Ranulph Fiennes’ Transglobe Expedition Trust for outstanding bravery. He was
also made a trustee of the same trust. Ed is an ambassador for the Scouts and a
global ambassador for Land Rover.
Ed’s
second series with Discovery, Naked and Marooned, saw him push
his limits even further, spending 60 days alone on an island with only his bare
hands to keep him alive. The first series of Marooned saw Ed face
challenges in some of the most remote locations and extreme environments this
planet has to offer; and he’s back for a second installment, in which he’ll
once again push himself to his limit and beyond.

Japan Built Coast Guard Vessel Part of PNoy Admin Project
Wazzup Pilipinas!
Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur P. Tugade underscores that the 44-meter Multi-Role Response Vessel (MRRV) that arrived from Japan on August 18, 2016 is part of a project contracted and secured by the previous administration. “We are receiving it in behalf of the Government.” It is a project of the past administration. We just want to say that, “Ayaw namin ng nagnanakaw ng kalabaw”, said Tugade during the turnover ceremony at the Philippine Coast Guard Headquarters yesterday where he and Rear Admiral Melad received the vessel along with 2 PCG officers and 10 non-officers including Japanese crew who sailed through rough waters to deliver the ship on its agreed date yesterday.
Rear Admiral Melad lauded the Japanese government for the continuous and unwavering support to the PCG’s capability development programs. Over the past 18 years, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has extended numerous assistance to the PCG in terms of human resource development, providing additional equipment for the communications, diving and rescue, personal protective equipment for oil spill combat operations, and donating small boats and rubber boats.
Nine (9) more MRRVs will be built by the Japan Marine United Corporation (JMUC) Yokohama Shipyard for the PCG and will also be named after the primary lighthouses in the country to denote the important role of lighthouse as an aid to navigation to mariners.

The Dilemma of Leila De Lima: Duterte's Abuse and Misuse of Executive Power
"Even if we have differences on certain issues, as a matter of principle—because I have my own beliefs, I have my own advocacies, [and] he has his own principles, beliefs and advocacies for governance—we don’t take things personally.” -- Sen. Leila M. De Lima
It's a fight between Senator Leila De Lima and President Rodrigo Duterte who are obviously abusing their power to gain some standing on their claims. An unfazed President stood by his recent attacks against one of her staunchest critics, saying he has evidence to back his allegations against her.
The President's tirades against the Senator are rooted in her supposed assumption that the chief executive himself is linked to extrajudicial killings. "Popular or not, murder must stop. S-T-O-P. STOP. Stop the killings now!”
The long-standing word war between Duterte and De Lima has come to a head on Wednesday when the President dropped the Senator's name as the public official he wanted to "destroy" — as alluded to in his previous speeches.
Duterte said that it was his “duty” as Chief Executive to name Senator De Lima as the female government official he had just attacked in a speech. He claims De Lima has a "lover" who collected drug payoffs for her. He chastised the Senator for questioning his campaign against illegal drugs. De LIma is the human rights crusader who had repeatedly "slandered" Duterte in connection with alleged extra-judicial killings.
But why would a Duterte lambast a De Lima with immorality when he is also a personification of such? Didn't he arrogantly said before that he has other wives and lovers? He also boasts of his killings and not to mention his wild curses and threats towards his enemies.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director Gen. Ronald “Bato” de la Rosa on Wednesday said they would be looking into the activities of Sen.Leila de Lima’s driver whom President Duterte accused of collecting money from the New Bilibid Prisons.
If the accusation that De Lima engaged in an illegal relationship with her driver is true, then she can potentially be disbarred.
"Namumulitika, posturing when you yourself have a very sordid personal and official life." says De Lima about Duterte.
De Lima held a press conference a day after Duterte's attacks. But still she never directly answered or contradicted the accusations of Duterte regarding her affair with her driver. Instead, she said "If you are bent in destroying me, please have the decency to spare my colleagues, friends, and family. Wala po silang kasalanan sa inyo." Teary-eyes, she said that the accusations would not deter her investigating drug-related killings. "Mr. President, I have been vilified and attacked, not only in social media but also by the President’s men as a drug lord coddler and protector."
“These are the president’s men. Now, what am I supposed to think and say about that? These are the President’s men trying to discredit a sitting senator.” De Lima adds.
Duterte says De Lima should expect scrutiny over her private life as a public official: "Anong 'spare the family'? 'Pag nasa public eye ka, De Lima, your life is an open book."
De Lima has been one of the active detractors of Duterte with statements such as "If there is evidence against these people he has named and shamed, cases should just be filed against them so that warrants for their arrest can be issued. If there is no evidence, then this is a plain and simple witch hunt."
“We have to determine the facts. We have to know the truth. We have to find out exactly why is this happening. We have to find out how many have been killed in the course of this intensified drive against drugs." adds De Lima.
De Lima said she had witnesses who could testify against police “scalawags” allegedly behind the summary executions of suspected drug dealers. The Senator said the Senate Justice Committee will proceed with its inquiry into drug-related killings on August 22 and 23 after holding an initial meeting with committee members. "Ang pagsasagawa namin ng Senate inquiry ay hindi... para ipahiya ang mga law enforcers para bawasan ang kanilang commitment na wakasan ang drugs... Ang ating layunin, alamin ang katotohanan at kung gaano kalala ang problema..."
The 'shoot on sight' order of the President is only justifiable if lives of civilians and authorities are in danger. She believes that the use of force in some killings may not be necessary, or, if necessary, was not proportional. She claims that the President may face charges of humanity related crimes at the International Criminal Court for the spate of killings related to drugs that have significantly increased ever since he became the President.
Various women's groups denounce Duterte's accusations against De Lima. "This is no less than abuse and misuse of executive power." She called on Duterte to stop portraying her as the enemy. Several senators believe that the Senate should not be involved in the feud between the two.
"Words cannot express what I'm feeling right now. I guess no one can, because no one has been attacked in such a manner by no less than the highest official of the land, until now." says De Lima
"As a woman, I take deep offense at President Rodrigo Duterte’s latest remarks against fellow Senator Leila de Lima. They are misogynistic," shares Senator Risa Hontiveros.
Rushing to the aid of embattled De Lima, former presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda told her to cheer up after Duterte publicly lambasted her as an immoral woman whose driver-lover peddled drugs.
The Liberal Party also defended Senator Leila De Lima from President Duterte, saying she deserved public support for raising the alarm over the hundreds of deaths linked to the war on illegal drugs.
Despite all of these, De LIma says “Hindi po ako lalaban. Hindi ko po kaya labanan ang pangulo. Unang una, hindi ko nga po alam ang kasalanan ko sa kanya,” "I would of course, push through with that because he knows my position also on those matters. We may not agree, but we cannot be disagreeable. We need not be antagonistic to each other."
The public's reaction to the administration’s anti-drug campaign, including the summary executions, appeared to be favorable, as indicated in Duterte’s 91 percent approval rating in the latest surveys. But are we really going to be living in a country where the war on drugs sinfully attacks accused without any opportunity to defend themselves in the court of law. The law enforcers themselves are becoming the law breakers. The country could turn into a massive “killing field” in due time if it is not halted. Duterte's soaring popularity should not be made as an excuse to support drug-related killings. We should not stay silent on the killings.

Karen Bordador and Boyfriend Emilio Lim Found in Possession of 3M Worth of Illegal Drugs
Wazzup Pilipinas!
Behind all that glamour and beauty, it was surprising that celebrities are involved in drugs. What would push them to resort to using illegal substances? Probably to give them that "extra energy" or "boost" to go through their everyday work which would most of the time involve a day of shooting up to graveyard time. Is their work too hectic and physically demanding that they needed more " juice" than what energy drinks can provide?
The latest on the war against drugs involves former "I Do" contestant and disc jockey for the FM station Monster Radio RX 93.1, Karen Bordador, who claims she was only visiting her boyfriend, Emilio Lim, when the bust went on. Emilio did not comment on the issue.
However, the police officers are claiming ecstasy tablets were found in her possession.
So who is lying?
Reports say that around P3 million worth of ecstasy, marijuana, and marijuana oil were found at Lim's condo unit in Pasig City.
FM station Monster RX 93.1 said it was shocked by the apprehension of Karen Bordador since she displayed no signs of drug-related activities in the workplace.
According to the Southern Police District (SPD), the Karen and her boyfriend Emilio's initial drug test results came out positive. However, she has refused to sign the consent form on her urine test unlike Lim.
Meanwhile, Karen's former boyfriend, Chris Tan, is crying foul after some news sites mistakenly used his photo thinking he was Lim.
Lim, Tan ...hhhmmm..seems Karen's type of boyfie are Filipino-Chinese! Lol!
Police are now saying they have a list of the couple's celebrity clients. Oh oh. This would mean a lot of rattled celebrities.
"Hindi totoo 'yun. Si Karen ay against drugs. We don't deserve this. We don't deserve this. Tigilan na nila yung pagko-condemn sa kanya," the mother of radio DJ Karen Bordador said.

(Luke Nguyen’s Culinary Trip in Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur. Check on the best gastronomic stops in Malaysia and satisfy your Malaysian cuisine craving through this food trails.)
WHEN IN KUALA LUMPUR
Multi-hyphenate Luke Nguyen of Street Food Asia is giving you a quick and easy tour on the food stops in Malaysia. Luke continues his street food journey venturing into multicultural Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Luke meets his friend, Tana, in Brickfields which is filled with a variety of different Indian dishes. Tana escorts Luke to his favorite street food stalls where Luke tastes delicious sweet and savory treats, including the curry puffs said to provide the consumer with prosperity and happiness.
Luke then meets the famous Mr. Hung with a reputation for flying instant noodles nearly two stories high. Luke then heads to Ramal Food Junction where he visits Willy's Satay Stall, considered to be the best satay in Kuala Lumpur.
JAKARTA’S BEST
Luke continues unearthing different street foods in Kuala Lumpur starting at the central Jalan Imbi market. With the market already busy at 7:30am, Luke is lucky to meet a friend with a table where he's able to taste different dishes walking past him. Having reserved the table, Luke heads off to talk to some local stall-holders and fills his plate high with different tasty treats. Luke then meets Mr. Sou who has been cooking a hearty Pork Bone Soup with medicinal herbal properties for over 20 years. Luke learns from Grandma Lim who's perfected her noodle making skills for 40 years to the most delicious fresh Chinese-Malay dish.
Luke continues his street food adventure exploring Jakarta, Indonesia. Meeting up with his old friend, Derice, Luke unearths the delicious delicacies of Chinatown, finding the experience a melting pot of diverse cultural cuisines. Luke joins the locals beneath the tall city skyscrapers and uncovers a truly authentic Indonesian stall which serves every part of a chicken. During the busy lunch break, Luke joins the hustle and bustle, meeting local Hadi, and dines on a diverse range of dishes. Moving onto dessert, Luke visits a vendor selling a sweet snack that resembles his grandmother's hair.
Luke completes his street food journey in Jakarta, Indonesia where he visits a busy stall that's been serving a traditional Indonesian salad since 1961. Luke indulges in an Indonesian dessert, the sweet Martabak, known as the 'King of Street Food'. After exploring the streets of Jakarta for the best Nasi Goreng, Luke is put to work helping to cook and serve the largest 'wokful' of Nasi Goreng he's ever seen.

Poco Deli: Your Little Deli with Big Flavors
Wazzup Pilipinas!
Poco Deli, has a new branch located at One Parkade building 7th Avenue corner 28th street in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig city.
Wazzup Pilipinas spent the evening with an awesome food tasting event organized by Zomato Philippines, the leading restaurant portal and community for foodies. Zomato also has a mobile app where you can order for home delivery.
As usual, I'm the earliest who arrived, and had to wait more than an hour for the other invited guests but that's alright because I prefer to be early than late which gives me a greater chance to talk with the owners or organizers of the event. Many opportunities comes my way whenever I'm punctual at events.
Poco Deli is your little neighborhood delicatessen known for the finest artisanal sausages and meats, select cheeses, imported wines, and great coffee. What they serve are my kind of meals if I want to go carnivorous for a food binge night munching on great meat complemented by their excellent cheese and wines selection. Needless to say, you'll encounter big flavors when you dine at Poco Deli.
They sell the meats so you can actually bring home these gastronomical wonders and be assured of quality handcraft deli. All branches, namely Kapitolyo, BGC, and Ayala Triangle, offer the same quality dishes they have been known for several years.
I would love to visit all of their branches especially the one in Kapitolyo, Pasig since that's the nearest branch to me. I would probably hot two birds in one stone by visiting also their coffee shop known for great coffee as well.
7 Flavors Buffet Restaurant: Amazingly Affordable Buffet Experience
Wazzup Pilipinas!
For the very affordable price of P400 (lunch) or P500 (dinner) during weekdays (Monday to Thursday) and P600 during weekends (Fruday to Sunday), the buffet offering at 7 Flavors Buffet Restaurant is amazingly hard to resist. Especially now that they are offering the buffet at a promo price of P350 and P450, respectively, until August 31, you'll be crazy not to take advantage of the price cut until end of the month.
Located at San Juan, specifically at 196 A. Mabini street at barangay Addition Hills, 7 Flavors Buffet offers a spread that's worthwhile enough to visit. It may not offer the high-end dishes like prawns and lobsters, they have enough comfort foods that would be quite enough to please the appetite. With more than half a dozen main dishes, plus their soup, salads and other starters like their crunchy tacos, and their desserts like ice cream, halo-halo and sweets, you are sure to go home tummy-filled and satisfied.
Another significant information that you need to know is that celebrity Chef Boy Logro is recognized as part of the restaurant including its culinary arts school and catering business. The Kusina Master often conducts special workshops and courses for the brand. We were invited to attend one of their food carving events but unfortunately, we had to decline due to a conflict with our schedule. But that would surely have been fun to watch Chef Boy Logro and his comedic ways to keep us engaged.
Going back to the buffet, we visited the restaurant during a rainy evening but their dishes would easily brighten up any gloomy day. I probably went back to the buffet tables three times not including starters and dessert. I really have to emphasize their crunchy tacos - it's not to be missed.

Nestle Crunch Blizzard is Dairy Queen's New Blizzard of the Month
Wazzup Pilipinas!
Dairy Queen us to try the new Blizzard of the Month, Nestle Crunch Blizzard on August 17, 2016 at DQ Robinsons Galleria. There are three new DQ Blizzard with Nestle Crunch flavors - Almond Crunch, Overload Crunch, and Strawberry Pretzel Crunch.
Many would love the Overload Crunch being made up of everything you would die for like cookie crunch and Nestle Crunch with Dairy Queen's soft serve with swirls of cocoa fudge that melts perfectly in your mouth. However, I loved the Almond Crunch more because its simplicity at its best - just the nestle Crunch and almond mixed on DQ's soft serve vanilla. Meantime, the kids would love the Strawberry Pretzel Crunch because of the sweet strawberry toppings and crushed berry knots taht are also mixed in DQ's soft serve.
Ray-Ban Launches #ItTakesCourage Global Campaign
Wazzup Pilipinas!
Our home was once filled with shades or sunglasses during my childhood days. This was because my father's favorite eye-wear was the Ray-Ban brand.
His weekend hobby was hunting for birds and reptiles, both big and small, at different parts of the country. The small birds he would collect inside our freezer for later consumption during drinking binges with his friends, while the big ones he brings to a taxidermist so he could have trophies from his trips.
During these weekend hunting trips, he would always wear his favorite Ray-Ban eyeglasses. He had so many models but since I was still too young to remember or care, I wouldn't know their names. The sunglasses were also too big for me to wear, though I remember wearing them every time I see them on top of shelves or tables.
Needless to say, Ray-Ban was his favorite brand. I am just disappointed that he had to leave us so soon. But he's in a btter place right now and probably still wearing ray-Ban while hunting for angels in heaven. Lol!
I must say that these shades or sunglasses truly brings out the best in everybody. Aside from looking cool and good, it indeed levels up our courage to the maximum. How? Because looking good eventually makes us feel good. Our attire becomes a lot more cooler when we match it with excellent shades.
Top 10 Things to Do in Ukraine
Wazzup Pilipinas!
From its captivating history to serene beaches and tasty food, Ukraine will charm you before you even know it. To make sure you take the most out of your visit, here are top 10 things to do in Ukraine.
1. Celebrate traditional holidays with distinctive Ukrainian traditions
Join the celebration of Ivana Kupala, a popular pagan festival widely celebrated across the country. In the evening, couples scour the woods for medicinal herbs, while unmarried women weave head-wreaths before lowering them into a river - if the wreath floats, it means they'll get married. The emphasis of the festival is on cleansing rituals: during the night, participants immerse themselves completely into the water and couples hold hands and leap over bonfires to ‘cure’ all that ails them. More common holiday – Easter – is celebrated in Ukraine with a beautiful melding of traditional Christian practices, folklore and ancient pagan symbolism. The Orthodox Easter has the same sacral meaning as for the rest of Christian world, while it is celebrated on a different date and with distinguishable rituals and traditions. Easter is the feast of Christ’s resurrection, which combines both pagan and Christian elements in its observance. It has been celebrated over a long period of history and has had many rich folk traditions.
2. Check out the churches
Ukraine’s churches – in Kiev, Chernihiv, Lviv and the Carpathian region – are all real gems that are worth seeing. Many of them make a part of UNESCO World Heritage List, so one is lucky to get a chance to see them all in one country.
3. Visit castles and fortresses
In western Ukraine, the stone fortress town of Kamyanets-Podilsky - a Unesco World Heritage Site - sits on a rocky outcrop, surrounded by a deep gorge that encircles it almost completely, with the clear waters of river Smotrych flowing far below. Moving not far away from this geographic area, you should also check out castles near Lviv that are one of the major tourist attractions in this region. Their beautiful architecture, mystical history and scenic landscape setting attract many visitors. Khortytsia islands, located in the heart of Zaporizhzhia city on Dnipro River, are attracting the most people to the region with its reputation of being the homeland and residency of famous Ukrainian Cossacks. Khortytsia is a beautiful national historical and natural reserve, where many types of rare plants and animals can be found. Also in the South, Akkerman fortress (the biggest in country) is a unique monument to the defensive architecture of the 13th -15th centuries. Despite its age and all the historical events that it has witnessed, the fortress managed to preserve its original structure. Today it is considered to be the best preserved medieval fortification facility in Ukraine. Pick up few places to see or visit them all – it’s up to you!
4. Get lost in Lviv
Lviv, with its attractive mélange of baroque, renaissance and art nouveau architecture and friendly vibe is the complete antithesis of the post-Soviet industrial cities of Eastern Europe and is one of the must-visit places in Ukraine. You can spend days admiring the highlights, which include the central Rynok Square, surrounded by wealthy merchants' homes dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries, the Armenian cathedral and the Moorish old Jewish hospital. The best panoramic views of the city are from the High Castle Park on northeast side of Lviv. The symbol of the city is a lion: it is carved into facades, on doorknobs, keystones and gates.
5. Hit the beaches
Usually it’s hard to get lot of pleasure from going to the most popular and easy-to-find beaches. For those who love to spend more time alone and further away from the city noise, there are plenty of yet unknown and extremely beautiful beaches in Ukraine to visit.
6. Visit the hidden mysterious places
For a post-apocalyptic experience, there are some places to visit in Ukraine as well. Head to Chernobyl exclusion zone near Kiev, take Lviv Undergrounds and Dungeons tour to discover Lviv’s mystifying underground world and listen to some spooky legends from city’s history or go down Odessa catacombs - the longest network of catacombs in the world, which is also the only one that has not been fully mapped. Intriguing, isn’t it?
7. Eat with lots of emotions
Lviv is famous not only for its astonishing architecture, romantic mood and unforgettable charm. It is also the center of gastronomic events in the country. The main gastronomic festivals in Lviv, dedicated to wine, cheese, chocolate and coffee, always attract lots of visitors. Moreover, the most interesting concept restaurants in Ukraine are also located here!
8. Shop at the markets
A visit to a good product market will overwhelm you with sights, tastes and smells. Go early in the morning, when the products are the freshest and the housewives and grandmothers come out in force, enticed by the market sellers offering a taste of their wares. Try out the two most famous markets in Ukraine to get the full range of emotions – Bessarbsky in Kiev and Privoz in Odessa, you will find lots of things to do there!
9. Drink wine
Shabo is not just one of the leading Ukrainian Wineries that follows the standards of high grape growing and winemaking culture. It is also the Wine Culture Center, aimed at promoting high culture of noble beverages drinking. Shabo Winery and Wine Culture Center are located in a resort area in the Odessa Region, one of Europe’s oldest regions where winemaking traditions are dated as far back as the ancient times. The center offers highly popular organized tours, hosts tastings and various events aimed at improving the drinking culture, popularizing healthy lifestyle and strengthening family traditions.
10. Get closer to nature
Ukraine has a large territory and is located in many climate zones. This fact makes it an interesting place for ‘green’ tourism that will get you to hit the road immediately! Discover Ukraine’s natural wonders, such as Vilkovo – the ‘Ukrainian Venice’, Bugsky Guard National Park, Askania-Nova reserve, Oleshky Sands Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians that will surprise you with pure beauty and stunning nature!
It is hard to find time to cross out all the points in the list of top 10 things to do in Ukraine, you can read mote at destinations.com.ua. However, this means that you always have motivation to come back any time of the year!

“Magtanggol” Goes to Rockwell
Wazzup Pilipinas!
“Magtanggol,” a political whodunit film directed by Sigfreid Barros-Sanchez based on a story by producer and investment banker Juanchito “Jojo” Dispo, will be shown at the Power Plant Cinema in Rockwell from August 24 to 30 as part of its week-long celebration of the National Heroes Day.
The film, the first offering of Felix and Bert Productions, revolves around a fictional political clan rocked by a scandal as one scion – a senator who is a strong advocate for protecting the rights of overseas Filipino workers – was tagged as a principal suspect in a spate of killings of abusive OFW employers.
Tom Rodriguez, who plays Senator Juancho Magtanggol, considers his first venture in the political thriller genre an eye-opener. “I didn’t realize the gravity of violence committed against our kababayans who only want to improve the plight of their respective families. Leaving your family behind to work overseas is already painful.”

DOTr Takes Over Traffic Management in Metro Manila
Wazzup Pilipinas!
The Department of Transportation will now be working together with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) in managing traffic along national roads in Metro Manila.
Upon the marching order of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, the MMDA, HPG, and DOTr attached agencies such as the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will be solidifying traffic enforcement by coming up with just one chain of command.
Metro Manila will be split into at least 10 traffic sectors. Each will have a sectoral head.
“Kapag watak-watak tayo, mahihirapan ang mga tao on the ground. But if we will be given authority under one chain of command, we can now easily issue orders,” HPG Chief Supt. Antonio Gardiola said in a press conference earlier today.
Operating as one agency, the HPG and the MMDa will be sharing assets such as manpower and motorcyles. The HPG will also hook up with the MMDA command center for better traffic monitoring.
The agencies are also working on coming up with uniform penalties for traffic violations. Traffic personnel will also undergo joint training.
The inter-agency initiative is a necessary move to ease traffic congestion pending appeal for Emergency Powers.
“We are focusing on enforcement now while waiting for Congress to grant us emergency powers. We have to do what we can do now,” said Transportation spokesperson Cherie Mercado-Santos.
“Sumbungan Board” for Violators of Anti-Hospital Deposit Law
Wazzup Pilipinas!
Akbayan Senator Risa Hontiveros eyes the establishment of a “Sumbungan Board” where the public can report violations of Republic Act 8344, otherwise known as the Anti-Hospital Deposit Law.
Hontiveros, Chair of the Senate Committee on the Health and Demography, filed Senate Bill No. 216 that calls for the establishment of a Health Facilities Oversight Board that will be tasked to probe the claims of patients who were denied treatment and services during emergency situations due to their inability to pay hospital deposit.
The Board will be composed of a Department of Health (DoH) representative, who will act as Chair, and representatives from the Philippine Medical Association (PMA), private health institutions and non-government organizations working on public health and advocacy.
“We want to prioritize the needs of our patients especially during emergency situations. The Sumbungan Board will provide a clear channel for redress of grievances by patients and ensuring their rights and welfare. In our quest for equitable healthcare system, we should be more sensitive to the plight of our patients, especially the indigents. Gamutin muna saka na kumita,” Hontiveros said.
The bill likewise proposed for an increase in penalties for demanding, requesting, soliciting deposit or other forms of advance payment as pre-requisite for confinement or medical treatment. It recommends that penalties for violations of the Anti-Hospital Deposit Law should be from P20,000-P100,000 to P500,000-P1 million, exclusive of damages that may be rewarded to the patient-complainant.
The proposed legislation is also pushing for the revocation of the operating license of a health facility after three repeated violations. “We will not let our citizens denied emergency medical care just because they are poor. Despite inroads being made towards advancing universal health in the past decade, health care in the Philippines largely remains inaccessible to the poor,” Hontiveros said.
The Senator is set to call for a committee hearing on the said bill on August 23 (Tuesday) to “determine the loopholes in implementation and take into consideration the best and worst practices of the law."
The bill also expands the definition of medical care to include women in active labor and at risk of miscarriage or fetal distress.

Risks - or Not - Behind Pokémon Go
Wazzup Pilipinas!
At FortiGuard, we wouldn't let you down without an analysis of Pokémon Go. Is it safe to install? Can you go and hunt for Pokémon, or stay by a pokestop longing for pokeballs? While this article won't assist you in game strategy, I'll give you my first impressions analyzing the game.
Versions
There are two sorts of Pokémon applications:
1. The official versions, issued by Niantic.
We will talk more about these later, but in brief, they are not malicious.
2. The hacked versions. These are also known as "mods", which are issued by other developers, for multiple reasons. It is in this category we are the most likely to encounter malware. For instance, a repackaged version infected with DroidJack RAT has been identified to be in the wild (see analysis below).
15db22fd7d961f4d4bd96052024d353b3ff4bd135835d2644d94d74c925af3c4
However, not all hacked versions are necessarily malicious: we inspected hacks to play on Android 4.0 (the minimum requirement is normally 4.4), or to modify GPS coordinates, neither of which showed any malicious intent.
baf0dc2e19c6ec9ebfc2853785e92e175064c522a82410c2e56e204fad156838 4d482cf9beef8d4f03a6c609025fc6025069c0c83598032e46380d23a75f1979
Besides manual inspection, we also sent those samples to our learning-based Android prediction engine, SherlockDroid / Alligator, which confirmed our analysis ;)
Risk #1 Installing an infected version
As mentioned earlier, a sample with sha256
15db22fd7d961f4d4bd96052024d353b3ff4bd135835d2644d94d74c925af3c4
is infected with Android/SandrC.tr, dubbed DroidJack RAT.
This is a known malware, for which we have had a signature since 2015. Therefore, Fortinet customers were protected from this malicious Pokémon app from the beginning :)
This malware is quite widespread. Internal statistics at Fortinet indicate more than 8,800 detections in a year, and 160 last month alone, but those figures are largely underestimated for various reasons, including the fact that reporting is not enabled by default. So, basically, what you should remember is that this malware is still in the wild and active currently.
More malware to come?
Yes, very certainly. Malware authors are likely to continue to re-package the game with a variety of malware and distribute it. The fact the game wasn't released in all countries at the same date, for example, (thus forcing impatient users to look for alternatives on the web), combined with the fact there are large game hacking (that's nice) and cheating (that's bad ;) communities only increase the potential for downloading an infected version of the game.
Risk #2 Full Google Account Information? (This is fixed)
Adam Reeve noticed that the game requested full access to your Google account. Note: we are not talking about an Android permission here but a permission of an app connected to a Google account.
This was an error and Niantic fixed this. So be sure to remove the permission from your account and upgrade your Pokémon Go application.
Finally, note that it is not extremely clear in the documentation exactly how much "full access" really means, but no malware or exploit of this has been reported so far.
Risk #3 Unwanted network traffic
In a perfect world, we'd expect games to only send packets over the network that are absolutely necessary for the game to run, such as your location, the details of Pokémon around you, etc.
However, this is very far from reality, and for years now most Android applications are bundled with third party kits (analytics, crash reporting, cross platform engines, etc.) which use up the bandwidth which send and receive more or less useful side information containing, in the best cases, the exact model of your smartphone, or in the worst, personal information such as your phone number and other private data.
Pokémon Go is one of these bandwidth hungry applications. I downloaded it two weeks ago, and it is already close to being the most greedy application on my phone...
For mobile users, the consumption of bandwidth is a real issue. On average, 24% of an application's traffic is for third party tracking and advertising services. For some applications, the rate rockets to 98%.
While the percentage of side traffic for Pokémon Go hasn't been measured precisely, given the number of third party functionality it includes, I wouldn't be surprised if it isn’t well above 50% ;)
Here is a list of what version 0.31.0 contains:
· Crittercism - now called Apteligent - is a mobile application "performance management solution"
· Dagger is a "fast dependency injector"
· Android support libraries: those are common to nearly all Android applications
· Apache commons I/O
· Unity 3D: that's the game engine Pokémon Go heavily relies on
· Space Madness Lunar Console: this is a "lightweight Unity native iOS/Android logger"
· Google Ads
· Google GSON
· Jackson XML: this is the JSON library for Java
· JNI bridge
· Upsight: a mobile analytics and marketing platform
· Google billing
· Square Otto: an event bus
· Voxel Busters: with "cross platform native plugins"
· rx for Reactive programming
Along with such "not-so-essential" network traffic to third party servers also comes common leaks. While we expect Niantic Labs and Unity 3D (game engine) to access our geographic location (to locate Pokémon and pokestops), perhaps we shouldn’t expect apps like Crittercism, Google Ads, Jackson XML, or Upsight to retrieve our location?
The disassembled code also shows that Voxel Busters is building the full list of our phone's contacts (see figure below). They access the display name, phone number, phone and email of all contacts. The list is then compiled into a JSON object and sent to a function named UnitySendMessage, which is then exported by a Unity shared library (libunity.so) where it is dispatched to another function, and where I currently lose its track. Are contacts sent to remote servers? This is not confirmed yet, but is of some concern.
So, yes, you need to know that while you play Pokémon Go you send your geographic location, along with other details (e.g network operator name, phone brand, etc.), to several remote servers, and you "pay" for this side traffic through bandwidth consumption. Unfortunately, this is increasingly true for nearly any game found in application stores nowadays...
Risk #4 Spoofed Pokémon map or activity
The Pokémon Go application communicates with Niantic servers via HTTPS (see image below). Even better, in version 0.31.0, Niantic introduced certificate pinning to ensure that applications exchanged information with the real Pokémon servers and not with others
Initiating a TLS handshake with Pokémon Go servers
However, when certificate pinning is not active, an attacker can perform a MITM attack and thus completely modify the game for victims. For example, rastapasta managed to customize pokestops!
Hacked pokestop by rastapasta
A malicious person can easily imagine other customizations, such as displaying an infected link in a pokestop, or directly injecting infected traffic. While such attacks are probably feasible, they are tricky, and the attack would only operate on the network where the Pokémon Go MITM proxy is setup.
Conclusion
· The Pokémon Go application is not malicious.
· It is no longer possible foe the application to fully access your email. It was a risk with an older version, but hasn't ever been demonstrated.
· There are currently versions of Pokémon Go in the wild repackaged with malware, and I expect more to come. Consequently, if you are not retrieving your applications from a safe application store I recommend you check its SHA256 hash against the official one, or scan the application with an anti-virus tool.
· Like most applications nowadays, Pokémon Go (or the third party apps it uses) exposes your privacy and implies unwanted network traffic.
· Niantic has obviously paid attention to securing access to its gaming servers. However, locally, MITM proxy attacks remain possible by skilled attackers.
Keep posted!
