Wazzup Pilipinas!
The Pinoy participants that were selected to compete at The Amazing Race Asia Season 5 are husband and wife Eric "Eruption" Tai and Rona Samson Tai, and beauty queens Parul Shah and Maggie Wilson-Consunji.
AXN Philippines recently held a launch featuring the two Pinoy teams plus an advance screening of the very first episode of The Amazing Race Asia season 5. We were fortunate enough to be among the very few who were able to witness the triumph of the two teams to make it pass the first challenge. Kudos to the two Pinoy teams for exerting all effort to complete the challenges presented on the first episode held in Indonesia.
The Amazing Race Asia is a highly anticipated reality show which requires participants to have physical, emotional and intellectual endurance to be able to accomplish most challenges. Luck may have something to do with how a team would successfully pass certain challenges but participants stand to gain an advantage if they know how to make use of all three attributes.
Filipinos are naturally very competitive in their every endeavor. This is why there are a lot of Filipinos that are making a name for themselves worldwide. Competing in reality shows such as The Amazing Race Asia is nothing new since we also had Pinoy representatives back then. However, last season was not a good one for the Philippines since we were already eliminated at the very first episode.
The advance screening of the first episode of Season 5 is a lot better since both teams were able to complete the challenges. On the first episode, the team of Parul and Maggie made it in fourth place while the team of Eric and Rona made it to 7th place.

We were a bit worried when the team of Eric and Rona where almost at the last place on the first part of the challenge but were soon relieved when they finally found the item they were looking for. The team improved their performance on the second part, and excelled as well on the third and last challenge putting them on 4th place.
Parul and Maggie are a formidable team as well because they were both eager enough to surpass all difficulties. They may be a bit slow but you'll notice that they are quite composed while doing the challenges.
Good luck to both teams competing for the season 5 of The Amazing Race Asia. I'm confident that fellow Filipinos will once again root for their countrymen and would actively support them on TV as well as online. Watch out for the first episode this 9 pm of October 13 at AXN.
The Amazing Race Asia is hosted by Allan Wu. 11 teams were originally selected to compete but two teams were already eliminated on the very first episode. The race started at the National Monument of Jakarta, Indonesia.
The ultimate prize is USD100,000 - that's a huge amount especially staggering when converted to peso amount. Depending on the dollar-peso exchange, the winning prize is roughly around Php 5 million which means around Php 2.5 per person of the two-person team composition.
That's definitely something worth an inspiration to keep up their persistence and determination to win. However, it's not only winning that they have to consider for since most of their acts during the challenges are broadcast on TV so I believe the viewers would also value how they play in the reality show.
The AXN launch of The Amazing Race Asia Season 5 was held at The Eye of Green Sun located at Chino Roces Avenue Extension in Makati city.

Again, we would like to give our support to our fellow Filipino teams and hope one of them emerge as the grand winners.
Below are information about the two Pinoy Teams:
Eric & Rona met online four years ago and acknowledged that marrying someone from the Internet is probably the craziest thing they have ever done. Eric Tai,also known as Eruption,is a former rugby player for the Philippines national team. A New Zealand native,Eric is currently a TV host and he’s secretly a gaming nerd. As a sportsman, he maintains a high level of competitiveness and sees it as an advantage in The Amazing Race Asia. Rona is a business owner whole left her career, family and friends to live in the Philippines with Eric. She hopes to serve as an inspiration to others that they can live their life regardless of their size, race or gender.
Parul & Maggie have been bestfriends for almost four years. They met each other through pageant training for Ms.Philippines where Maggie was Parul’s mentor. Maggie is no stranger to the public eye; she has been a VJ at MTV Philippines for a few years and acted in various TV series. Maggie is always up for an adventure (preferably in high heels please) but she’s extremely terrified of cockroaches and rats.
Parul redefines the very meaning of a Beauty
Queen. She’s not afraid of getting down and
dirty and she’s always up for an adventure. Parul
wants to win the Amazing Race Asia and invest
the prize money into opening a successful spa.
