World-Renowned Calisthenics Guru Hit Richards Wants to Introduce More Filipinos to Calisthenics

Wazzup Pilipinas!

World-renowned calisthenics guru and celebrity trainer Hit Richards, who hails from New York City, wants to introduce more Filipinos to calisthenics. Calisthenics, an intense workout wherein one uses bodyweight and bodyweight movements, is currently very popular in other countries.

Hit Richards, who trains and handles clients from various cities such as New York, Paris and Moscow says, “I’ve been hearing good things about the Philippines, specially about its athletes. I’ve also read about the Olympic Silver medalist (Hidlyn Diaz). In my humble opinion, it is good to encourage young people to get into sports; and calisthenics in particular is one sport wherein you don’t need a lot of money to be fit. You also don’t need expensive equipment nor a gym membership. You can do calisthenics anywhere, in parks, your homes, gyms, etc. It is also one sport which can complement your training if you’re an athlete. So I want to bring calisthenics to the Philippines one of these days and encourage Filipinos to love the sport as much as I do.”

“I’ve also read somewhere that some athletes have difficulty training because of the lack of equipment. Maybe calisthenics can help, because all you need is to use your bodyweight to be able to get the results you want,” he says.

Richards, who has 15 international certifications from the International Fitness Professionals Association (IFPA) for personal training, started his business Calisthenics Kingz in 2007, way before the sport became popular in other countries. He counts among his list of prominent clients musician Busta Rhymes, NFL players such as Chad Ochocinco, and other A-list Hollywood actors.

“I’d like to bring the sport to the Philippines first and then to other parts of Asia as well. I do believe that given the climate and ease of training for calisthenics, that it is very easy for Filipinos to get to know this sport and eventually love this sport,” Richards said.

Hit Richards has also been featured in TV shows such as Inside Edition, and magazines such as Muscle & Fitness.

“The Philippines is my next big project where I plan to bring calisthenics. Given the opportunity, I would like to give trainings and certification classes so it can be taught to more people. It is simply the most practical way of staying fit,” he said.
