Wazzup Pilipinas!
The Anvil Business Club commemorated its 25th Anniversary on September 9, 2016 (Friday), from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Marriott Hotel Manila, at one of its flagship events, the ANVIL SUMMIT 2016: Giants Level Up! Extending Your Boundaries, where they featured business leaders and maverick entrepreneurs who have dared to change the game and make the world a better place.
These stellar lineup of key business leaders are namely Tallwood Venture Capital’s Managing Partner, Mr. Diosdado P. Banatao. Dado is a trailblazing entrepreneur who made it big from the sleepy town of Iguig, Cagayan to the bustling tech companies of Silicon Valley. Other confirmed speakers include : Aboitiz Equity Ventures ex-President JON RAMON ABOITIZ,who reinvented their declining transport business into a powerhouse in power generation and other industries; Concepcion-Carrier Air Conditioning’s CEO RAUL JOSEPH “Jojo” CONCEPCION, who upgraded to world class manufacture and entered several strategic international partnerships; Megawide Corporation President/COO Engr. EDGAR B. SAAVEDRA, whose innovation in construction created spectacular growth and has now entered green energy and won the Mactan Airport bid; and ANDERS BĂ„RLUND, a Partner at Mckinsey & Company, who leads us into the future through the behavior of the Digital Consumer.
These are luminaries from diverse industry experiences and backgrounds so imagine the knowledge that we could have squeezed out of these speakers if only there was more time to ask questions.
The business leaders shared their stories in a public forum for their members and esteemed guests. But before their valuable wisdom and inspiring experience, the team from Anvil which include Anvil President Marcelo Co, and Anvil Chairman Emeritus George Siy, gave opening messages.

Jon Ramon Aboitiz was fond of using quotes from famous people on his presentation. He basically shared the foundations of leadership which he believes should be topped by credibility, trust, and integrity.
He said that a good leader must possess the following characteristics:
1. Passion and Guiding Vision
2. Practice of Solid Values
3. Has a Heart
4. Establish Enduring Relationship
5. Show Self-Discipline
Leaders should be able to inspire others with their charisma, and empower those that they lead.
When asked about president Rodrigo Duterte's ways of running the country, he said he is more optimistic with the current administration.
The second speaker, COO and President of Megawide Corporation, Engineer Edgar Saavedra, was introduced by Anvil VP of Internal Development, Hubert Henry Chua.
Engineer Edgar Saavedra shared his company's journey from when it was beginning and until the present where is now among the top developers of the country. He said that there is actually no set formula for success, and that we just need to keep going. According to him, his probable advantage was because he is not influenced by traditional practices, and that they were forced to innovate because of that condition. His being quite new in the very competitive industry could have been the reason why he landed so many big projects like at Mactan-Cebu International Airport and the Southwest Integrated Transport System.
Many would appreciate how he humbly shared his beginnings, and how he emerged successful amidst the competition to finally become among the giants of his chosen industry to venture upon. From how they started out small with the very first project they accepted and now that they are handling huge projects.
I'm sure that the remaining speakers would equal if not surpass the admirable accomplishments of these first two. However, I am not able to share it with you since I left immediately during the break. I had to run out to attend a different event all the way at Ortigas Center.
But I guess I did not finish the event because I already heard two of the three remaining speakers share their stories too at other previous events that I've attended before.
The only one that's new for me was McKinsey & Company's Anders Barlund, but I'm sure I will soon bump into him again at some other event as well.
Though I only stayed halfway of the event, I am still grateful for the opportunity to hear from two speakers - one whose family has been around for so long already, and another who has only began but is already doing amazing big leaps.
