Gringo Honasan: Interview at Discovery Channel's Advance Screening of People Power: 30 Years On

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Here is the complete interview from the press conference held after the advance screening of Discovery Channel's special documentary for the 30 years celebration of the People Power or EDSA Revolution entitled as "People Power: 30 Years On" held on January 23 at the newly established Quezon City Museum located at Quezon City Circle.

Many prominent personalities attended the event including Vice Presidential candidate Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan. Most questions came from me as everyone else was not too eager to ask so it looked more like my exclusive interview.

Aside from our interview with Vice presidential candidate Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan, Wazzup Pilipinas has special interviews with Jacqueline Suzanne "Jackie" Mendez Aquino - the daughter of Agapito "Butz" Aquino, MTRCB Chairman Eugenio "Toto" Villareal, Quezon City Vice Mayor Ma Josefina "Joy" Belmonte-Alimurung more popularly known as Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, Emile Guertin - Discovery Channel Executive Producer for "People Power: 30 Years On," and Sister Marie Sarah Manapol, SPC who worked with Fr. James Bertram Reuter.

Everyone shared with me their insights about the EDSA Revolution. I will post the otehr videos soon but they are now available in our YuTube channel at http://www.YouTube.com/user/wazzuppilipinas

The producer, Sally Bellosillo, already replied to my inquiries through email, and here are her answers:

1. Since this video was originally created 10 years ago, what are the new portions, aside from the lines of Trey Farley, that were included into the new Discovery Channel documentary as compared to your original work "Laban"?

We interviewed Ballsy and Pinky for the ending.

2. Were there parts removed from the original documentary that you feel is somehow important, and some that were too controversial or political in nature to be included?

Not really, this is really the gist of the film we just had to make everything fit in the 1 hour slot.

3. I am bewildered with the story angle that Ninoy Aquino was being eyed as a "successor" of Ferdinand Marcos giving an idea that it was highly impossible for the Marcos government to plan the assassination. Who among the personalities mentioned that part of the story? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I only heard those lines from Trey's commentaries and not from the interviewed personalities? Am I right to think that even Imelda cannot be a "successor" since there is a Vice President that should be taking the place of the president if in case he is unavailable?

Arturo Tolentino ran as VP of President Marcos but prior to that there was no appointed successor if I remember correctly.

4. When Imelda Marcos mentioned the lines "Everything is a priority. Even garbage is a priority. Ninoy was a priority." or something to that effect as I was not able to write down the exact words, did it imply that Imelda thinks Ninoy was garbage?

Documentary is really about presenting all sides and key here is for the viewer to formulate an informed opinion on the said historical events.

5. Were there efforts to also get the messages/insights from current President NoyNoy Aquino, and Juan Ponce Enrile? If there was, did they decline or were just unavailable or busy during the documentary project?

They were both not available at the scheduled shoot.

6. We all know that Gringo Honasan and BongBong Marcos are both running for Vice President, do you think people will find it controversial that this documentary is being shown during the election year? Do you think it will be advantageous to the former and disadvantageous to the latter with regards to their political ambition for higher government office?

I find it very interesting that the 30th anniversary of people power happened to be on an election year. This is meant to be historical and ultimately the audiences will formulate their own opinions on the past and it is my hope that we learn from it.

More updates about this event. Please do watch the show airing on February 25, 2016 at 9 pm on Discovery Channel.
