Wazzup Pilipinas!
Your Pambansang Blogger ng Pilipinas was recently invited to attend a special block screeing of Lakbay2Love, a romantic coming-of-age movie from Erasto Films. The movie will be publicly show nationwide on February 3 and will have a red-carpet premiere at UP Diliman on January 29.
The movie is directed by Ellen Ongkeko-Marfil who we also had the opportunity to chat with since I was the very first blogger who arrived at the event. Watch out for our video interview of her soon at our YouTube channel. She led the special block screening held at Robinson's Galleria Cinema 10 on January 13, 2016 for the members of the media, the biking community and other friends and families.
Lakbay2Love, aside from the love triangle among Dennis Trillo, Solen Heusaff and Kit Thompson, more than subtly promotes biking and love for nature as a way to promote a better way of living.
Better means healthier, cleaner and lovelier since the use of bicycles, may it be mountain or foldable bikes, metal or bamboo made, vintage or high-tech or whatever kind or design, and the drive against illegal logging, climate change, and other environmental preservation campaigns contribute to a world with less pollution and risk of disasters.
We all know that if more people started using bikes, it would lessen the damage to our world brought about by pollution coming out from motor vehicles. It would also promote a healthier lifestyle for everyone as the much needed exercise from biking would be highly beneficial. I've been biking ever since I was a child and it is surely uplifting for both health and spirit.

Meanwhile, the preservation of our forests would reduce flooding so we can avoid disasters like Ondoy and Yolanda that devastated a lot of our countrymen including us. I will never forget the days we were stranded on the 2nd floor of a neighbors house because of Ondoy, and how our first floor containing all of our priced possessions went under water and forever damaged both our property and spirit.

Trees also clean the air we breath, "Trees create an ecosystem to provide habitat and food for birds and other animals. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and potentially harmful gasses, such as sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, from the air and release oxygen. One large tree can supply a day's supply of oxygen for four people. Trees help reduce surface water runoff from storms, thus decreasing soil erosion and the accumulation of sediments in streams. They increase ground water recharge and reduce the number of potentially harmful chemicals transported to our streams."
However, traveling from point A to point B in most cities could be very dangerous for bikers. There are very few and almost zero roads that encourages biking. You risk getting ran over by over-speeding and reckless drivers, and the smoke and dust on the roads will eventually kill you.
You also endanger your life if you go against illegal loggers as most of them are contracted by large corporations with big-time lawyers, and these shady projects are mostly backed up by officials of LGUs.
Both campaigns would require extreme support from the both the government and the people. Neither can be successful if we cannot all unite against the obvious enemies - greed and apathy.
Though the movie shows a deep concern for our environment, the chemistry among the lead characters also tried its best to elicit "kilig" moments and "hugot" lines as they lead their everyday lives even though how awkward it could be at many times. You may have rooted for Dennis' character to get picked by Solenn's character, but her relationship with Kit's character has a long history, which was later on revealed as her friend from way back childhood days. Even though she was hastily abandoned, she has not yet entirely moved on from their recent breakup.
Though it was not hard to fall in love with Dennis' character, the timing was wrong when they met. Thus, this is a window of opportunity that can be tackled if ever there was a sequel of the movie. You'll be wanting to know to whom Solenn will finally end up.
Even though the movie may not be the tested and highky successful "romcoms" the masses have loved and though middle-aged actors are not the most popular love teams of Pinoy movies and teleseryes that are branded with the combination of their names like AlDub and JaDine, the realities they present to the viewers are more than real life struggles that extremely needs our attention.
Another great addition to the movie is the fabulous soundtrack. They have "Liwanag" sang by Kai Honasan, and "Overdrive" by the Eraserheads where they changed "drive" to "bike" so instead of singing Mag-da-drive ako hanggang...." they are now singing "Mag-ba-bike ako hanggang...." They also have the lead actors singing their own covers. Solenn sings "Kilig," while Dennis sings in the movie itself.
The future would look a lot brighter if we could all make at least one random act of kindness that would eventually lead to the benefit of all, including our children. We may not live long enough through this world to experience utopia, let us give our children a chance.
Imagine a world where everyone is inspired to change the world "one pedal at a time." A world where everyone is aware of the dire consequences when you cut down a tree just to waste pieces of paper. A world where every heart beat is dedicated to care for a special someone, and ready to sacrifice holding back when necessary.
Our journey towards in this world is a never-ending road trip that can be spent well if in the company of those we truly care for.
