Go Go Cafe of Cebu: A Truly Inspiring Story for Everyone

Wazzup Pilipinas!

An added destination to my trip in Cebu was at the Go Go Cafe owned by Go Morita, a Japanese who now lives in Cebu and is also popularly called the Tonkatsu man. He has recently partnered just about three months ago with a Filipino to setup his own restaurant in the province of Cebu.

It was so inspiring to learn that just after a few months of peddling his own creations infront of IT Park of Cebu, the construction of his restaurant was already in the works.

I went to Cebu mainly for the Sinulog 2016 festivities, but he caught my attention when he was featured at a popular local TV network.

The timing was perfect because I was on my way to Cebu for that weekend and finding out a story like his brought me to courageously look for his restaurant somewhere at P. Remedios street in Banilad.

The restaurant was simple in design yet attractive already. The big signage of Go Go Cafe was very evident and catchy. His logo represents a running man in the middle of which Go Morita explained was running towards the cafe. This was because his food was so hard to resist that people may want to rush ahead just to catch his food still available at the cafe.

He also had a corner where he sells souvenir shirts and mugs that patrons may want to purchase to bring home as a reminder of their visit at Go Go Cafe.

He fairly understands English so communicating with him was less of a problem. He was also very accommodating enough to entertain my questions and to do a video interview for my blog.

But enough about him, what we really came here for is to try out some of his offerings. I couldn't manage to eat many because I was scheduled that day to visit several restaurants all throughout the day so I only requested a few specialties to make room for the rest of the dishes to be served at the other restaurants.

First for me to try was the Pork Tonkatsu with curry sauce. At a very affordable price of P80, it was a filling meal already spiced with his special curry sauce of which the recipe was confidential. He personally makes it on his own and does not yet entrust the secret to his crew of 6. Two persons on a three shift basis were handing the restaurant while he manages on a daily basis. He just lives nearby so it was very convenient for him to go back and forth at the restaurant.

Next to try while eating the pork tonkatsu, which made me perspire because of the special curry sauce, was the manually brewed or hand-dripped Arabica coffee that can be served either hot or cold. Go Morita calls it the Go Go Blend. His crew does it by hand so the price of P120 was reasonable.

I had to try another morning snack which was called the Spam Sushi. It was actual Spam slice on top of Japanese rice and tide by seaweed. He has plenty of these prepared already but it was all gone during that morning. He asks his staff to create new batch because every time the demand was so high.

Thank you Go Morita of Go Go Cafe. You brought the much needed inspiration especially to foreigners who wnat to make the Philippines their second or final home. There are great reasons why people from other countries do business or live here in the country because of how friendly Filipinos are. Add the fact that there are a lot of opportunities available in the Philippines. It surely is more fun to be in the Philippines and many, who couldn't stay long, would always want to visit the country again and again.
