It is widely acknowledged that social enterprises play an important role in addressing social, economic and environmental challenges, in fostering inclusive growth and in increasing social inclusion because they aim to pursue the general interest benefit communities. Social enterprises contribute to local community development by creating opportunities in urban and rural depressed areas where there is little prospect for wealth creation as well as provide support for vulnerable individuals who may have otherwise had no chance for employment.
Supporting social enterprise creation and development may allow public policies to meet employment and other social and economic challenges in a more efficient and effective way than if they rely on the public or private sectors alone, therefore improving the spending of public money.
This conference aims to look at how public policy can support social enterprises through – the promotion of social entrepreneurship, building of legal, regulatory and fiscal frameworks, provision of sustainable finance and the offer of business development services and support structures.
The Social Enterprise and Policy: Enabling Inclusive Economies will be held at the Escaler Hall, Ateneo de Manila University on October 19 - 20 2015
TARGET
PARTICIPANTS:
- Legislators with an interest to learn more about social enterprise and how it relates to their area of work
- Social entrepreneurs who would like to know how policy can benefit their own social enterprises
- Students of social enterprise
- Social Enterprise enablers and stakeholders who would like to be more informed about the changing landscape of social enterprise and how new developments in policy can affect this.
