Dann Angelo De Guzman, founder of Cloudswyft Systems, was our special guest at the Vigattin Radio show of Radyo Inquirer DZIQ 990 AM. Cloudswyft is a software company which specializes in developing customize platforms that companies can use to run evaluation programs, simulation exams and training modules that can really test the technical capacity of a person.
Also on phone patch was Dr. Pablo Manalastas, professor of Computer Science at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City who implored on everyone to participate as groups or individuals who would help in evaluating the Smartmatic source codes.
The evaluation of the source codes are felt crucial by many because it will define how secure and reliable the operation of the counting and processing of votes during the elections. However, according to Dr. Pablo, becoming a source code evaluator is voluntary work without any compensation or perks. Also, certain restrictions and security procedures are becoming a deterrent for many who would like to participate.
Most of the hour was dedicated in listening to Dann relate his startup success story and how he persisted to follow his visions, how he persuaded his investors, how he has grown from being just a one-man company to a team, to reach his current status right now.
We reached a point where we asked Dann what he thinks about students who are thinking of dropping out from school when a great opportunity comes. He stated that the main reason why we study hard is to gain enough credentials and knowledge to get a good job so we can be assured of a well-compensated future. When there is a great idea on hand that might give us a great chance to succeed, you really have to weigh in your decision if you would like to play safe with having a college education, or to pursue the rare opportunity to become your own boss running your own business.
We are not putting the academe in a position where it is competing with entrepreneurs who would like to start with their business ventures at a young age. What should be realized by the many management running colleges and universities is that they may need to revisit their offerings to still become worthy for the youth to earn their credentials.
We have heard of so many success stories from many startups that are now enjoying funding from venture capitalists and investors who believed in their ideas. What is remarkable is that many of them are young and do not have high-caliber degrees at all. Many do not belong to the affluent or infuential members of society. They just had one great idea that they were able to put into action thanks to the people, groups or companies that help seed their ideas.
It brings inspiration to many that everyone can have an equal footing when it comes to running your own business. Many organizations and establishments, including government agencies, are now starting to support startups. They are now setting up better arrangements, benefits and exemptions to encourage more people to setup their own business in the country.
