Wazzup Pilipinas!
Are we ready for cloud computing even though we carry with us Filipinos the burden of being recognized as a country having one of the slowest Internet connectivity in the world?
Nobody could directly answer that question which makes many doubtful that the said technology would push towards popularity within the Philippines. Though the cloud would definitely become a significant technology that would highly improve our business processes, the underlying prerequisites in order to make it truly functional still needs a lot of improvement, or what one of the speakers would say, political will.
I believe that it is similarly the business side that keeps causing the delay of our progress because our businessmen would still want a huge profit out from their infrastructure and would not like the competition, or even the masses, to benefit by allowing them better opportunities to be competitive in performance.
IP Converge Data Services Inc., a local cloud computing and data center firm, pooled together three industry experts, namely Philippine Software Industry Association President Jonathan de Luzuriaga, CloudSigma CEO Robert Jenkins and Adatos Managing Director Drew Perez, at the 2nd run of the Philippine Cloud Summit held on October 7, 2015 at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel in Makati city.

Jonathan de Luzuriaga, leading the way for the IT industry to meet its vision of "Driving the Philippine Software Services and Products Industry" to attain and sustain global leadership in market-share, mind-share and innovation, talked about how to transform our company into a digital enterprise. This included the role of software in business operations, identifying the right application to use and and the advantages and benefits of using cloud-based apps.
Robert Jenkins, responsible for leading the technological innovation of the company's pure cloud IaaS offering, discussed the business benefits of an elastic infrastructure. They have established an unprecedented open, customer-centric approach to the public cloud. We need to understand the supply and demand from an IT capacity standpoint, and how IaaS can significantly improve a company's financial health.
Drew Perez, a retired US Intelligence Officer with a career that spans over a quarter of a century in Intelligence Tradecraft and Big Data Analytics, talked about how to uncover business growth opportunities through data science. He clearly stated that a Data Scientist is the sexiest profession in IT, and that it is crucial that we learn how to apply analytics on our big data otherwise they are not really very useful to the highest potential. Since there are several ways to monitor our every move, making use of analytics to interpret real-time information can help us make immediate sound business decisions. Through analytics, we can also unlock the business potential of otherwise stagnant data archives.
A panel discussion, composed of the three speakers plus a moderator, took place afterwards which gave the audience an opportunity to ask questions.
