Shelter Magazine Presents Human Scale Architecture Monograph
Wazzup Pilipinas!
Shelter Architecture and Design Magazine is pleased to announce the release of the publication’s debut book, Human Scale, the first title in an upcoming series of architecture monographs. Your friendly neighborhood Pambansang Blogger ng Pilipinas was invited to the launch that was held on March 7, 6PM at the Top Shelf of Fully Booked bookstore located at Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig.
Comprising a panel during a short program held at the launch were Shelter Magazine's Editor in Chief, Architect Royce Mar Nicdao, WTA Architecture and Design Studio lead Architect William Ti Jr., and Shelter Magazine's Architect Dianne Naval.
Human Scale takes a look at the works of WTA Architecture and Design Studio, a multidisciplinary
firm composed of young architects, interior designers and engineers. The ten chapter book illustrates the concepts which the firm has found relevant in the practice, and which serve the need to find and explore new ideas in order to create a sustainable and livable urban model.
“Potentials and capacities of scale catalyzed the concept of the book,” explained Architect Royce Mar Nicdao, editor-in-chief of Shelter. “It is an enduring theory of architecture that we felt the studio could explore through our designs. This database of projects encompasses a wide range of situations and solutions with highly significant degrees of variation in scale.” Nicdao adds that the plethora of designs presented in the monograph asks, affirms, and sometimes invents architectural designs that contribute to the pool of current local design knowledge. The book deprovincializes accustomed architectural comprehension through extensive design responses, which are not essentially limited for local application.
Human Scale will be available in bookstores nationwide by March 2015.

Exploring the concept of human scale in architecture is crucial to creating sustainable and livable urban environments, and it is great to see how the studio approaches this theme through a variety of projects. The inclusion of ten chapters illustrating concepts relevant to the studio's practice provides a comprehensive overview of their work and their approach to creating an urban model that is responsive to the needs of the community and the environment.
ReplyDeleteOf particular interest is how the book challenges conventional architectural understanding by providing design responses that transcend local applications and contribute to architectural knowledge in general. This demonstrates the innovative potential and global influence of the work done by the WTA Architecture and Design Studio.
