Fifty Shades of Grey: What Was Once Suppressed Will Now Be Expressed
Wazzup Pilipinas!
I wonder if I'll actually end up seeing Fifty Shades of Grey. I'd say there's a 50/50 chance. I may be so rudely judged when I approach the ticket counter and ask "One ticket for Fifty Shades of Grey, please." People around might say "Would you like a side order of "self-respect" with that order?" Lol!
Now that E. L. James' book that glorifies abusive relationship and romanticizes a perpetrator of abuse has been turned into a movie, I guess acceptable sexual harassment may soon be a common sight especially for extremely liberal persons. The book may not be called as a great literary masterpiece but it is indeed a great artifact of female sexuality and expression. Nah! I was just kidding.
Why the need to make fun of the book? Fifty Shades of Grey is from the same writer of Saving Mr. Banks. There's a joke in there, but I didn't have coffee yet. Something about Poppin. Oh yea, now I remember. It's a movie so wild that your ants are bound to be Poppin!
The most anticipated erotic drama has been described as abusive, sadistic, unnatural, perverted, exploits women's longings, normalizes domestic violence, and more like pornography than a movie, despite being a consensual relationship between two adults. They say it should be called 69 Shades of Smut instead. Many sci-fi fans wished they just created a movie called Fifty Shades of a "Grey."
But Kim Kardashian seemed to liked it and I quote "OMG It was sooooo good!!!". No she hasn't added film critic to her resume but she and some friends got invited to s special private screening as part of celebrity perks. Hey! Bloggers have the same perks too. So here's hoping there will be one in our country.
Why am I not surprised that two totally opposite beings, one being conservative and another one kinky, would be so compatible? Beyonce's soundtrack titled Crazy in Love is truly very appropriate. The soundtrack is slaying the charts right now. You can hear the song being played almost everywhere, including Malacanan Palace. Joke!
However, Ellie Goulding's Love Me Like You Do is officially my favorite song from the Fifty Shades movie.
A grassroots campaign, launched last week and gaining steam on social media, is urging moviegoers to boycott Fifty Shades of Grey and use the money they would spend on tickets, popcorn and drinks to support a domestic violence shelter or agency. Using the #50dollarsnot50shades hashtag, the campaigners ask that people spend their money on women’s shelters rather than a trip to see the Fifty Shades of Grey film adaptation.
I'm not advising people to watch it just out of curiosity but we should be warning our students (above 18) to never even dare to be near any cinema house where the film will be shown to avoid the temptation. You might see a few Fifty Shades of Grade after your movie experience.
Many campaigns have taken advantage of the movie's popularity by naming their events synonymously alike to the book title. I've had one speed dating event for February 14 that's called Fifty Shades of Love. There are even books that are called Fifty Shades of They and Fifty Shades of Feminism. There's even a Lego movie parody. I hope the church comes out with Fifty Shades of Pray because you would just hate it when your Theology teacher asks you to open the bible, Fifty Shades of Grey comes up because iBooks opens the last book you read!
The global phenomenon has received an R-18 rating in the Philippines but was banned in Malaysia. Government-provided contraception should be a major sponsor for this film. Get in line ladies. The sensual tension is in the air!
Do you fancy a sleepover at the hunky Christian Grey's luxury apartment? You can't actually rent one at the same Seattle building which was his fictional home. But there's news out there that can make your fantasy become a reality. Now you can stay in Christian Grey's IRL apartment. Yes, really. Thanks to Airbnb.
Are you excited to see Jamie Dornan (They should have chosen David Gandy instead) and Dakota Johnson with their clothes off especially inside the infamous Red Room of Pain? Is it really a tasteful leather dungeon?
There is so much hype for the Fifty Shades of Grey movie that it better be good! I'm actually intrigued about the climax ending that both author and director (Sam Taylor-Johnson) had to battle it out which should be shown. It's a good thing the author had the final word. Give the original creator of this slut get all the chance to justify her work.

This is a very well written article! The humor was there but it still managed to deliver the information the author wants to tell the readers about the topic which was about the Fifty Shades Of Grey movie. I really enjoyed myself reading the article because of the jokes and the subtle insults to the book because hey, the book deserves it.
ReplyDeleteThe writer sure knows how to entertain and inform her/his readers about the movie everyone was buzzing about. I guess in a way, this helped other curious people out there what they're anticipating about. I like how the humor almost mixed with the writer's sarcasm but was still able to express his/her opinion about the said movie.
ReplyDeleteAs a none-reader of the book, who am I to judge the movie? That also made me think of those people who say bad stuff about the movie when they haven't even read the book. It's a free country and people can pretty much do what they want, huh? Anyways, this is a nice article. The sarcasm and the satirical writing made it more entertaining. Cheers!

ReplyDeleteI find this article very appealing and amusing; Just like what other readers say, the humor and his sarcasm, the way he expresses his opinions and perception about the said movie has been really entertaining. By this article, I can tell that there's a lot of obnoxious comments and feed back about Fifty Shades of Grey. For me, it's not as bad as what they think. I've read the trilogy and it has a unique story. People just looked as it as some kind of pornography and they judge and judge and judge and even the people who haven't read the book judge it too. It's like jumping into conclusion without analyzing it and they will rant about how bad the movie is. I just think it's not fair. So for those who haven't read it, I suggest you should. And for those who have read it and didn't like it, well, we have different opinions and views in things. I guess, I should leave it that way. So anyway, thumbs up for this article! Hurrah! :)
ReplyDeleteI will not criticize the book or the movie because I haven't read and seen it yet. I will just commend the way the author wrote the article. It is entertaining and funny and the sarcasms he/she put there made it even funnier.
ReplyDeleteFifty Shades of Grey is a really hot issue among teens and young adults. There are a lot of people saying that the film was really disappointing and that they expected something else from that movie. But I must say that we have our own different perspective. For someone who haven't read the book and seen the movie yet, I don't that the rights to criticize them. As for someone who have read the book and seen it, they should just appreciate the movie. And for those who haven't read the book and seen it, it was their decision to watch the movie so they don't have the rights to bash it.
ReplyDeleteWhen someone mentions "Fifty Shades of Grey," there are a lot of ideas that comes out in our mind like an erotic movie, pornography, so sexual, Red Room of Pain, Dominant, Submissive, love story, enjoyable, for adults only, and a lot more. Most of the comments regarding this movie/book are negative. But how ironic because most of the people want to suppress this movie because it is not suitable to watch but then our generation is very liberated now a days. The topic in the movie is very common already. Teenagers are not innocent anymore. So my only request for those people who bash the movie and the book, is that before giving some ridiculous comments and criticism, read the book first and watch the movie. I respect every opinion towards this movie but I think it's not acceptable to give biased criticism.
ReplyDeleteI would like to commend the author of this article for inserting humor in the topic yet still be able to deliver very informative details about the book and the movie. It was also good that the songs were mentioned because those were used for the advertisement of the movie, which I also liked. Personally, I would not be criticizing the book because I haven't really read it. I also thing that the people who bash the movie have no right to judge the people who will watch the movie moreover bash the book if they haven't even read or watched "The Fifty Shades of Grey".
