Blessed are the Weird
Wazzup Pilipinas!
"Blessed are the weird people – poets, misfits, writers, mystics, heretics, painters, troubadours – for they teach us to see the world through different eyes"
I qualify on all those counts, does that mean multiple blessedness? Weird could be my middle name but I don't really advertise myself as such. I guess I'm an outsider. Always have been, and I don't intend to change.
People give lip service to this, but the reality of how the world treats creative people is very much different. I'm using this to inspire another piece but taking out "weird". We're not weird - we're original, creative and imaginative! Though labels are for selling things, not for identifying people. Eccentric, that has always been my label, and oh how I love it. Remember that everyone is blessed, some are yet to realize it though. Also 'invite', 'inspire' or 'provoke' would be better than 'force'.
All of my life, I have had people tell me that I am weird. I embrace it. Say it loud say it proud! I am a poet, a misfit, an artist, and yes I am weird and different, but for me I am content with that for I stand against the flow and follow my own path! I love being different. ...it means I am an individual. But aren't we all weird in some way or another?
I like being weird, it liberates. I never had any intention on fitting in. I like who I am and what I do. I've always been a little to the left of most of the "normals" but I believe that creative people are the ones in their 'right' mind. I know I was here for a reason. Shame on those who call us misfits.
I believe all the freaky people make the beauty of the world. Thank goodness we've got them. They make the world a better place to live! If we were all alike, life would be so boring. Thinking outside the box is a good thing. The world is round. The Earth revolves around the sun. May we all be open to new ideas in the new year.
However, some would call this as veiled elitism and romanticizing the outcast. They dislike how "weird" is associated with artists and worn like a badge of pride. "I'm a poet, period. I don't bother associating myself with being "weird" or whatnot. I'm doing my craft." Some people just want to think of themselves as this tormented genius that's set apart from the rest of the world. They then proceed to make stupid "quotable" shit like this to seek validation from the internet that they're special because they're "weird". If you're truly an artist, focus on your craft. Would you agree?
As for me, I believe all children are special and need to feel included and accepted for who they are. Some people are so ignorant of what is most important and are able to laugh through their ignorance. What they don't see is a tremendous opportunity to do good and feel amazing in doing so. I don't know what they see when they look in the mirror. I am thankful to those who make a positive difference.
I always love to hear people's point of views. It's great to be able to understand why people think the way they do. I'm glad there's people that they call bipolar, crazy, mad, insane, illogical, - those people who march to a different drumbeat. If we dance to a different beat than the crowd and they see the point we are making... then our words... music... ministry are not in vain.
Creativity is such a a blessed talent ! Long live creative people who are fantastic, inspirational and make the difference! They can change the world without political power! Nobody should be left behind or ignored. We are all God's children. You laugh at us because we're different. We laugh at you because you are all the same.
So raise your glass if you are wrong in all the right ways!
