Ang Huling Lagda ni Apolinario Mabini

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The troika which is part of the hugely successful musical Ang Nawalang Kapatid-- Floy Quintos, Dexter M. Santos, and Krina Cayabyab collaborate once more in a play celebrating the sublime paralytic’s 150th birth anniversary.

Ang Huling Lagda ni Apolinario Mabini chronicles the last days of Apolinario Mabini’s exile in Guam and explores the conditions which spurred him to return to his homeland. The play is written by Quintos, direction and choreography by Santos, and original music by Cayabyab.

This musical in one act is, perhaps, the most significant contribution of the local theatre scene to the celebration of the sesquicentennial of Apolinario Mabini. While the musical explores the private pain of a hero forced to swear allegiance to the USA, Ang Huling Lagda ni Apolinario Mabini also instills a new pride and importance in his greatest work- the True Decalogue. The musical also allows audiences to be more familiar with the value of Mabini's greatest opus and strengthens their sense of duty to their country.

Feng Shui Your Desk

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Would you believe you can feng shui your desk? This is where your important decisions are written and made. According to feng shui expert Karen Rauch Carter, if your desk is not optimally serving you, it could be robbing you of vital energy.

The size of the desk is crucial. Big tasks need a big desk. If you have a small desk, you can’t multi-task. If your desk is bugging you, and you feel cluttered, it’s probably too small.

Desks should be organized and clutter free. Everything should have its own space – not just on your desktop but including the area around your desk which holds files, trays, drawers, and bins. Make sure at least 50 percent of your desktop is visible.

If you have a wall or a partition in front of you when you sit at your desk, change your location. Turn your desk around, and put the wall or partition behind you. Make sure you can see the door from where you’re sitting.

Young Artists Series Presents Songs and Sonnets

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Catch Philippine Opera Company's Young Artists Series (YAS) Season opener "Songs and Sonnets" on September 10. Directed by Meynard Penalosa.

YAS is designed as an arts development program for the young, upcoming singers of the company to showcase their talents. The YAS Team decided to enhance the program by engaging the artists in more creative work and perform scenes from various Operas, as well as, Musical Theater pieces that have crossed over into the classical arena.

What initially was conceptualized as a recital, every third Wednesday of the month, grew into an out-of-the-box, innovative, and enticing program known as the Black Box Series, garnering not only an enthusiastic audience, but has also become a creative template for other groups to follow.

In the theater the term Black Box refers to a space devoted where daring experiments and new visions are tested through performance. Performers who choose to go and perform in a black box are usually the ones with most open hearts and sincere desire to hone their talent.

Gilas Pilipinas: Croatia, Greece, Argentina, Puerto Rico and We Need To Win This Time!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We went home with a heavy heart after our Gilas Pilipinas lost again to another team. Sill fresh from their losses from the basketball teams of Croatia, Greece and Argentina, the additional lost to Puerto Rico made everyone miserably lonely that night after realizing the few remaining seconds were no longer sufficient to expect a win.

While dining a sumptuous chicken dinner at Max's Restaurant Scout Tuazon at Quezon City, we cheered and jumped for joy with every shot that went in, and for every miss the opponent makes, but I guess it was not meant to be for Gilas Pilipinas to finally earn a win. I guess we need more training as a team to make it against these other teams that all made the game a worthy match.

Gilas Pilipinas! Go go go!!! You may have lost again, but still our heart belongs to you. Though it is unfortunate that we won't make it to the FIBA finals, our #PusoToTheMax still beats for you. Our pride towards the Gila Pilipinas team still reigns supreme above everything. After all, we gave it all, and that is what is more important.

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"I'm done trying to please other people" says a sexier and stronger Sarah Lahbati who is now the cover model for Sense & Style magazine September 2014 issue.

Best remembered for her title role in the GMA afternoon soap, “Kokak”, Sarah Lahbati was also Richard’s love interest in last year’s short-lived primetime teleserye “Makapiling Kang Muli”.  She also made headlines as a spokeswoman for breast cancer awareness.

Born in Geneva, Switzerland as Sarah Lahbati Alzol, she bagged the title as “Ultimate Female Survivor” in 5th season of Starstruck, GMA 7’s reality search for new talents but she got more attention after expressing her dissatisfaction with her network which later led to her desire to be let go from her contract, and eventually being countersued by GMA 7. But the real highlight was when she and Richard Gutierrez admitted to their relationship and their baby Zion.

Wazzup Pilipinas Talks About Blogging at Global News Network (Videos)

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"Listen to an interesting discussion on the ins and outs of BLOGGING. This was a fun interview I did a few weeks ago with leading Filipino bloggers Ross Flores Del Rosario, Kathy Kenny Ngo, and Kaye Rey. This episode of "Philippines Uncut" entitled "All About Blogging" aired on the Global New Network. Thank you Hrh Ronnie Cruz Bernardo for arranging!" - Buddy Cunanan

Bloggers Ms. Kathy Kenny Ngo of www.lifeiskulayful.com, Mr. Ross del Rosario of www.wazzuppilipinas.com, Ms. Kay Rey of www.babestravelling.com and Mr. Ronnie Bernardo of www.heliconprojects.com ( declined to participate due to cough), talked about blogging in the Philippines.

The three guests were asked various questions all related to blogging, like the perks and privileges of being a blogger, the downsides of dealing with bashers and haters, and at some point their similarities and differences with journalists - seems like a controversial topic.

Below are the videos divided into three parts for viewing. Enjoy!

Geeky Maja Salvador is the New Sexy on Speed Magazine September 2014 Issue

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"Speed September cover girl Maja Salvador dons her Buddy Holly-styled glasses and her quirkiest expression to show you how sexy geeks can be." - Speed Magazine

You gotta love how Maja looks here! She depicts a lady that's so funny, smart and geeky!

There's something so sexy about women wearing glasses. It makes them look so much more interesting. It makes you wonder if they're the brainy type or just have poor vision? But what fascinates me is wondering what they will look like when they take of the glasses.

We know Maja is so damn sexy even without the glasses but why do sexy girls become even more sexy when they don glasses, or when they look somewhere along the lines of nerdy.

Yeah! I have to agree that "geek is the new sexy" since who wouldn't want a sultry beauty that's also brainy?

How to Harvest Vegetables at the Peak of Their Freshness

Wazzup Pilipinas!

How will you know if your fruits and vegetables had already reached their peak freshness? How will you know if they are ready for harvesting? The science of freshness is easy to understand. Fruits and veggies thrive because of oxygen, with the root as the main oxygen resource.

In keeping the freshness of the produce, proper harvesting and storing techniques must be employed. Here’s how.

1) Visit your garden regularly

Make it a habit to visit your plants during harvest time especially if you have huge veggie gardens. Be aware of what is happening to your plants as they mature and become ready for picking. Drastic changes are inevitable – a half-ripe tomato today may be rotten tomorrow or the day after that.

Tread carefully while walking the garden or farm aisles. Don’t walk near the root zones. Compressing the roots and soil can make it difficult for the water, nutrients and air to work up their way to the vegetables themselves.

Don’t trample on the vines as well. Stepping onto the sprawling vines limit growth of the budding veggies. The process also limits future growth which, in turn, limits the yield volume.

Eat Out Manila: Redefining Dining Out Experience in Manila

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Don't you just hate it when you are having a hard time setting up a reservation at any of those prime restaurants in the Metro. A phone call will normally not be convenient since there seems to be no one answering the phone at the other end....and when you do get connected, the reservation often gets lost in the communication due to human errors.

This is probably why most of the manual work these days are being automated by several means, including the development of mobile apps that are accessible via our smartphones. Everything seems to be having a mobile app version to ease the pain of going through the normal transactions.

Relevant to this, a premiere online restaurant reservations or booking service app was launched last August 29, 2014 at Rambla restaurant in Rockwell, Makati. Wazzup Pilipinas was fortunate to be invited to witness the launch of Eat Out Manila, and at the same time get to dine on superb dishes offered at Rambla, a Spanish-Mediterranean restaurant that offers world-class cuisines. Rambla has been a favorite of mine ever since it opened a few months ago, and I was happy to attend an event at the said venue so I could experience Rambla's food once again..

Patrick Gabriel Gonzales Fun Dubs Russell of Disney and Pixar Movie "UP"

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We shared with you the story of Patrick Gabriel Gonzales, youngest broadcaster of the Philippines, few weeks ago. As a follow-up story, let us share with you one of his amazing talents specifically in voice dubbing. Below is a video where he dubs the voice of Russell from the Disney and Pixar movie "Up."

Up is a 2009 American 3D computer-animated comedy- adventure film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The actor who voices Russell, the chubby kid in the highly anticipated Disney/Pixar movie Up, is an adorable Asian boy named Jordan Nagai. Proud to be Asian after learning about it.

You wouldn't have known it wasn't the original actor who voiced Russell in the video below if we didn't inform you. Patrick is really talented, and surely has potential to become something bigger especially when he gains more skills and knowledge throughout the years....and Yup!...he is also Asian being a fellow Filipino.

With a very talented father, International Youth Ambassador for Peace awardee and Voicemaster Pocholo Gonzales, at his side that has access to many possible opportunities for his kid, Patrick is bound to become more famous than his father soon. I am pretty sure that his mother is equally talented since it takes two to bring out a real smart and brainy kid into this world.

Hero of D Day: Because There's A Hero in All of Us

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I do believe that man is basically good. We are not war freaks that wreak havoc and chaos whenever we feel molested or treated badly. We are mostly reserved, modest and humble in both our attitude and our action. But what triggers us to do evil ways is an enigma that continues to puzzle me every time I hear a crime committed by a man against his fellow human beings.

I would like to believe there are more good news rather than the negative ones. Media has a way of being attracted to the terrible stories of hatred, lust and greed, sometimes extreme depression or passion, or that need to survive in a world where the rich continue to flourish and the poor remains an "isang-kahig-isang-tuka" living being whose only hope for survival means to cheat, rob, or kill.

This is why we also need to highlight the heroes within our midst. They need to be recognized and rewarded with even just a simple "Thank You", a handshake or a smile. We need more heroes to become an example so that others may follow their traits. We need more heroes to shine and be remembered so that this world will be more grateful of their efforts.

The Hero of D Day (HODD) organization aims to tell stories of heroism of even ordinary citizens doing what seems to be simple yet significant. Every simple act should be recognized and appreciated to encourage more people to do the same.

At a meetup dubbed as "Hero of D Day Huddle: Zero to Hero: A Hero Sharing Boot Camp"
held at the Commune Cafe and Bar in Makati, we set upon a task to share stories of these heroes for everyone to acknowledge.

Potts Point Cafe: Organic Made Healthy and Delicious

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Don't you just wish that every food around us were all "organic?" It's a healthier way of eating and living minus the harmful effects of artificial stuff that were used in the traditional way of producing the food we eat just because they are more convenient and easier to do.

If you really want to give your loved ones the best, provide them with healthier foods. You should not take them every week to a fastfood restaurant just because there's an adorable mascot. You should take them to restaurants that offer more nutritious food to keep them fit and healthy.

But what are organic food? These are food where "crops are generally grown without synthetic pesticides, artificial fertilizers, irradiation (a form of radiation used to kill bacteria), or biotechnology. Animals on organic farms eat organically grown feed, aren't confined 100 percent of the time (as they sometimes are on conventional farms), and are raised without antibiotics or synthetic growth hormones."

We want organic food that are better for us and the environment. Such restaurants that serves organic food is Potts Point Cafe, from the same people that gave us The Old Spaghetti House, Grilla, Swensen's and The Shrimp Shack.

PLAY 2D BEAT: An Open Dance Competition from Playhouse Production

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Playhouse Production goes back to where it all began…

Since the time that the issue caused turmoil in the whole HAJA PARTY event planning, founder Michelle Ann Rio tried to find ways to pursue the concept against all odds. “We invited more people to help us out in the event, tried to partner with another Kpop event producing outfit, added a little spice into our program and almost signed a deal to guest an artist on our show”, Michelle shares.

However, when the terms in the final revision of the contract has not been agreed to by both parties, that’s when Michelle decided to call it off. “The manager of the group has so many last minute demands even a few days before we sign. Also, I found out that the group may possibly be out of the country during the day of the event. That’s a risk I’m definitely not willing to take”, Michelle adds.

Having so many Kpop events in the same month, Michelle has decided to expand the event’s market by making it instead an open dance competition, that’s when PLAY 2D BEAT was born. Having been one of the pioneer team of Dancepinoy.com, Michelle has established closed ties with different event organizers and promoters in the dancing field, not limited to Kpop. “I re-connected with my old friends in the industry and told them my situation. They were glad that I’m going back to organizing open dance competitions and were very supportive to help out,” Michelle says. The confirmed Kpop media, sponsors, merchandisers and groups were informed of the event’s program re-format and most will still support the show.

The Shrimp Shack: Suck, Peel, Eat and Enjoy!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Any food lover will tell you that the real draw of Oahu's North Sphere in Hawaii are the shrimp trucks. The shrimp truck business has flourished to this day and most of the popular ones are still packing long lines daily by tourists and locals alike.

The Shrimp Shack (TSS) intends to capture the culinary experience of traveling to this wonderful destination by giving their guests an authentic Hawaiian Shrimp Scampi experience. To ensure freshness and high-quality, they use fresh, local, in-shell, white shrimps. As the locals of Oahu do, it is best to suck the shrimp first to get all that tasty flavor in your mouth, peel of the shell, eat and lastly to enjoy!

These are my kind of dishes since I really love shrimps, prawns, and most seafood out there. They would always be the first ones I will pick from the menu, and my preferred choice in all buffets. I will never grow tired of eating shrimps

My Top Ten Emerging Influential Blogs of 2014

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Blogging has become really influential that many brands and organizations have been engaging bloggers to run campaigns to promote their products, services or advocacy. Aside from sharing personal ideas, thoughts, revelations, realizations and awakenings, blogging has turned into a promotional tool to spread news about almost everything.

This can be attributed to the popularity of smartphones with Internet access which also eventually led to the creation of useful and entertaining mobile apps that somehow are already changing our lifestyle. This gave opportunity to startups to develop apps that are now reshaping e-commerce and the way we do business and even leisure.

There has been blogs coming out with significant and relevant content that are both entertaining and informative, as well as useful and reliable. They are slowly becoming a source of readers who are looking to be informed and educated. While some were created to simply provide an outlet for the author to express himself, many are online to serve as an alternative means of earning.

There are several blogs out there that are emerging to be influential for many so this is the time we recognize them. Please just bear in mind that we got the list from the ones submitted for consideration. Although there are probably a lot more deserving blogs out there, we just do not have the capability to inspect each one of them since there is a requirement that the blogs must be fairly new. Only blogs created anytime from August 1, 2013 to the present are qualified to be cited.

Here are my top ten emerging influential blogs of 2014:

By using Any.TV's expertise, it is expected that our on-line presence will lead to more watch time and increased viewership. They also have a special large community of YouTube video creator whom they call “Brand Ambassadors” who help them promote their signed partners to like their network.

PreWreck: Retake the Mental Breakdown

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The UPLB Com Arts Society’s PreWreck: Retake the Mental Breakdown is all set to bring back the crash course benefit party to the Los Baños scene on September 18, 2014, 9PM at Java Avenue, Los Baños.

This year, proceeds of PreWreck: Retake the Mental Breakdown will be funding the scholarship of a BA Communication Arts freshman student and will also be donated to the treatment of Rav De Castro, a UPLB Com Arts Society alumnus, who is the only documented case of Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma (EHE) in the Philippines.

Following the success of PreWreck: Drop Beats, Not Subjects in 2013 with over 600 in attendance, this year’s party returns with signature fun games and free-flowing drinks. The venue is divided into different drinking game stations with various challenges and witty prizes.

Last year’s chosen beneficiary was Limao Elementary School in Biñan, Laguna, where The UPLB Com Arts Society held a storytelling session and learning activities for the school’s Grade 1 and 2 pupils. Proceeds of PreWreck were also donated in the form of books and toys for the children.
