Wazzup Pilipinas!

Last March 4, 2014 , more than 500 participants from all around Asia and the Philippines gathered together at the MERALCO Multipurpose Hall for the Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit . This event now on its 3rd year, brings together major EV players, EV parts manufacturers and assemblers, government thought leaders, head of LGU’s and economic institutions and even NGO partners for clean air to collaborate and share knowledge of the EV industry and discuss processes toward mainstreaming the EV ecosystem.

Rommel Juan, president of the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (eVAP), one of the  organizers said that the EV Summit has now becoming more relevant in the light of the recent effects of Typhoon Yolanda. “Now people are more conscious of the negative effects that can be brought upon by our neglect in preserving the environment thus resulting in global warming and climate change. Thus this year, even major auto shows abroad have prominently featured electric vehicles and other forms of alternative for fuel vehicles’, he adds.

Passengers: Paintings by Gino Tioseco and Raymond Kawataki Go

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Passengers” is the latest art exhibit at Cevio Art Haus. It is a collaboration of the recent works of artists Gino Tioseco and Raymond Kawataki Go. The exhibit will showcase artworks which will tell us about their personal experiences, the people they met along the way and their interactions with them. The exhibit hopes to convey to the viewer the adage that we are all passengers in a ride called life.

As a full time visual artist, Gino Tioseco was influenced by other underrated painters such as Amedeo Modigliani, Milton Resnick, Leon Golub and Lester Johnson, He often used himself as the model for his nascent portraits saying that it was the most familiar subject to paint as he can project the fluctuations of himself as he experienced it.

His paintings often have no title and his style is characterized by the use of garish colors, agitated brushwork and convulsive compositional rhythms. “My paintings have no narratives, no explanations and no endings,” Tioseco explains. “I want my audience to invest their own meaning into my works and draw their own conclusions.”

Going "Loonie" with the Ultrasound Album

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I'm literally going "loonie" after hearing Loonie's Ultrasound album...oh I mean loony!

Who wouldn't? It was such a notable rap and hip-hop album that you can't help but sing along with it...that is if you can sing or rap as fast as Loonie...but no worries, we could always settle for the chorus or the parts that don't really need much quick tongue-slashing rapping expertise.

Seriously, with rap and hip-hop continuing to be alive and kicking in the Philippines, more and more artists are courageously entering the same field and even producing their own albums in collaboration with friends and partners that have the same interest and belief that OPM will keep on going strong despite the existence of music piracy.

The album, produced by Loonie himself together with Klumcee features the carrier single "Pilosopo" with Smugglaz, now popularly played in many radio stations nationwide and the music videos propagating in many music video channels like MYX and MTV Pinoy.

The Ultrasound album also includes "Tao Lang" with Quest, "Bago ang Lahat" with Ron Henley and Kat Alano, "Tanyag" with Abra and Syke, "Abante" with Kat Agarrado. "Isang Jeep" with HipHop 22, "Ang Bagong Ako" with Greyhoundz, and of course "Ultrasound" with DJ Buddah.

What Does It Take to Become a Fashion Icon: A Timely Intellectual Fashion Forum for the New Gen of Fashionistas

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It's really quite difficult if you name an event with a question or a statement that demands a very controversial answer. What Does It Take To Become a Fashion Icon was a timely intellectual fashion forum that's badly needed by the new generation of "fashionistas" or anybody living and breathing in the world of fashion. Has the term fashion icon become a little too inclusive and is clearly being tossed around like an old Nine West handbag?

With so many students attending the event and listening meticulously to what the Fashion Forum panel has to say, I was glad their questions finally focused on the asking the most pertinent questions. I was already experiencing a certain frisson when the panel discussion was becoming so vague. Sadly, we heard the safe and obvious answers that was known to many already.

They question how come the so called "fashionistas" themselves are the ones that promote foreign brands and not our local products. It would have been more beneficial for the country if everyone promotes locally made clothes made from fabrics made from the Philippines, or shoes from Marikina-manufactured leather, or bags made from raw materials coming from the many provinces of the country.

Mount Fuji: Japan's Most Famous Landmark

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I searched the Internet and found out that the most famous landmark in Japan is the one called Mount Fuji. So this article is all about the said mountain, or is it really just a mountain?

Mount Fuji is with 3776 meters Japan's highest mountain. It is not surprising that the nearly perfectly shaped volcano has been worshiped as a sacred mountain and experienced big popularity among artists and common people throughout the centuries.

It is an active volcano, which most recently erupted in 1708. It stands on the border between Yamanashi and Shizuoka Prefectures and can be seen from Tokyo and Yokohama on clear days.

Another easy way to view Mount Fuji is from the train on a trip between Tokyo and Osaka. If you take the shinkansen from Tokyo in direction of Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka, the best view of the mountain can be enjoyed from around Shin-Fuji Station on the right hand side of the train, about 40-45 minutes into the journey.

Garden Orchid Hotel of Zamboanga City: My Home at Asia's Latin City

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Your friendly neighborhood pambansang blogger of the Philippines visited Zamboanga under the invitation of the Department of Tourism of Region 9 to cover the many festivities of the city during its 77th Dia De La Ciudad De Zamboanga. This includes the 9th Philippine Bird Festival and the 2nd Zamboanga International Film Festival when Cinematheque Zamboanga was also inaugurated as the venue of the said film fest.

From the very moment we stepped out of the Cebu-Pacific airplane at the Zamboanga International Airport, we were greeted warmly by the Chavacano-speaking people of Zamboanga starting with a display of some traditional dance as a welcome treat for all the passengers from Manila, and a placard bearing my name carried by a true Zamboanguena to fetch and take me to Garden Orchid Hotel - my temporary home during my stay in Zamboanga Hermosa.

Garden Orchid Hotel is located at Gov. Camins Avenue and is just a stone's throw away from the airport. It is  approximately 10 minutes away form the commercial places like Paseo Del Mar where you can go dining by the sea.

I was booked at the new wing with its own driveway and grand lobby with amazing chandeliers, cylindrical staircases and a wide lounge area. There's a mini-bar at the far end and you can directly see the pool area from the lounge area because they are divided by a see-through glass wall.

The Attack of the Flappy Bird Clones

Wazzup Pilipinas!

After Flappy Bird.... there's Flappy Superhero Birds by Free Hot Games (iOS), Flappy Pipe – Revenge of the Birds by Ben Gaddy (iOS), Flappy Sperm by mantisincgameproductions (Android), Flappy Pipe by WAEEBA (Android), Flappy Troll by EgxGameFree (Android), Flappy Stars - Miley Wrecking Ball Edition by Storm Factory (iOS), Flappy Bieber by App5ive (Android), Flappy Fish by Frojo Labs (Android), Flappy Stache by Team Chaos (Android and iOS), Flappy Fish Escape by Entwickler-X (Windows), ......wait.....let me....rest a bit.....plus a lot more out there resembling the crazy game that made almost everyone insane.

When they said Flappy Bird is dead after the developer pulled it out of the online app stores, out came dozens of reincarnations banking on the popularity of app game that made you wanna wish you have no other worthwhile things to do in life but play on your smartphone.

Yeah, it was insanely addicting because it was a ridiculous game where you only have one life and do nothing but stay away from banging into those pipes. Fortunately, some of the new app games which followed Flappy Birds surprising "success" (if you may call it that) have features that make gaming more interesting. With a lot more eye-candies, things to collect for power-ups, and a few more animated highlights, game time is more "fun" time to leisurely spend the hours and get carried away by the game to reach the highest score possible.

Dulaang UP’s Ang Nawalang Kapatid Stages Additional Shows

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Coming off a hugely successful and critically acclaimed three-week run, Dulaang UP’s Ang Nawalang Kapatid stages additional shows on March 14, 15, and 16.

If you missed or would like to relive the Filipino retelling of one of the world’s oldest and longest epic poems, The Mahabharata, then this is your chance to watch the production praised by critics for its direction, text, music, and choreography. Critics laud the production as “an astonishing theatrical experience”, “an elegant and regal Filipino adaptation”, and Dexter Santos’ direction as “breathless and daring”.

The story revolves around the battling royal families of the Pandavas and Kauravas, and the moral dilemma Karna, the lost brother, finds himself in. To whom does he owe his loyalty? To his family or to the state which made him a prince?

Through this production, Dulaang UP seeks to bring the timeless story of The Mahabharata to a wider audience. By filtering the epic through the sensibilities of Filipino artists, the production shows us our Indian roots and its enduring impact on our culture. The production highlights how the epic has shaped strong values like loyalty to family which is so much a part of Southeast Asian culture.

Dia De La Ciudad De Zamboanga: Fun-Filled Festivities at Asia's Latin City

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Your friendly neighborhood pambansang blogger of the Philippines continues his Zamboanga Hermosa adventure! With so many stories to tell about Asia's Latin City, I needed to divide my stories into several parts. I'm still undecided if I should blog per location/event or on a per day basis simply because there's just so much great stories I want to share. But don't worry. I will figure it out as I let my wonderful memories write it for me. I might do a mix of both.....but let me just surprise you, it's better that way.

After attending the inauguration of the Cinematheque Zamboanga located at Legionnaire Road in Barangay Zone IV, I went back to the hotel where I was staying. I was booked at the Garden Orchid Hotel - yes! Garden Orchid and not Orchid Garden even though many would normally refer to it as Orchid hotel because it's much easier to say. If you're wondering why it's called that why...well here is a little trivia for you - it's mainly because the owner's last name is Go.

Obviously, he can't name it Go Hotel since there's one named like that already - the place for every Juan. Thus Garden Orchid it is!

Garden Orchid is located at Gov. Camins Avenue and is just a stone's throw away from the airport. It is  approximately 10 minutes away form the commercial places like Paseo Del Mar where you can go dining by the sea. If you have to go to Zamboanga for any reason, the Garden Orchid Hotel is the best place to stay.

“Postscript to Summer” Exhibit by Roberto Marcelo A. Robles

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It is not a secret that art elicits something in the domain of feelings and emotions. The Russian novelist, Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910) campaigned this very sensibility in his famed essay "What is Art?" For Tolstoy, other than expression, an artist's main role is to elicit emotions to spectators. He writes, "To evoke in oneself a feeling one has experienced and having evoked it in oneself then by means of movements, lines, colors, or forms expressed in words, so to transmit this feeling that others experience the same feeling--this is the activity of art". This particular outlook vigorously latches better onto certain artists.

Roberto M. A. Robles is one of those artists, whose style, for its whiteness and bareness, at times succeeds in saturating benign feelings. The minimalism of the artist’s works and his understated manipulation of colors allude to a greater sense and mastery of space. Robles attained a distinct lyricism that makes his studies in white almost unadorned but never void. They are quintessentially oriental: serene, delicate, pure, and suggestively Zen--a vibrant manifestation of his years of study in Japan. This truly makes him a master of communicating feelings by using not much else.

If his 2011 retrospective “Saluysoy” was about “genesis and beginnings”, the artist’s upcoming solo show at Galleria Duemila, “Postscript to Summer”, is its heartfelt afterword. A show that alludes to the nostalgia of his connection to land, his spiritual association to nature, and the humanity and memories that go along with the artist’s sensibilities. This art show, like all of the artist’s previous exhibitions, is grounded with a quest for a deeper consciousness to Filipino culture, language, socio-politics, and identity. It is, in many ways, a celebration of the realities of being a Filipino in contemporary time.

Data Theft, Trojans and Quotes from the Bible: The Murky World of Spam Money Lenders

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The experts at Kaspersky Lab explain the dangers posed by loan offers sent out in spam and what can happen if users reply to spam messages.

They also provide some useful tips on how to avoid falling victim to unscrupulous financial organizations and Internet scams.

Spam money lenders: expensive and dangerous

Small organizations and private money lenders unable to compete with the scale of marketing campaigns available to big multi-national banks often resort to electronic mailings.

Quite often, these messages serve as a cloak for unscrupulous organizations whose services turn out to be far more expensive than advertised. Typical Internet scams may also distribute credit spam.

In order to collect information about the victim, they can offer their assistance in obtaining a loan and ask either for a password to the online banking system, a three-digit card verification value (CVV) or the user’s passport or contact details. This information can be used for example for drawing up false documents.

Cocomochi: Japanese Rice Cake with Coconut

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I make desserts almost twice every week. I know that’s probably not the healthiest thing, but it’s what I enjoy doing and I love dessert! This week, I’ve decided to make mochi.

Mochi, a traditional Japanese dessert, is a rice treat I have enjoyed since childhood. Sometimes, mochis are wrapped around ice cream and have it in frozen yogurt shops. If you have seen it before and haven’t tried it, I would definitely urge you to. It’s a small treat that is chewy and slightly sweet and is SO good!

The traditional method of making mochi can be tedious, but nowadays there are other options such as baked, steamed, or microwaveable mochi. In my case, I used the microwavable mochi recipe (probably the easiest of the three). By far, this is one of the easiest recipes for mochi, while it is also tasty, especially when eaten warm. For those of you who want a quick, coconut mochi treat, I would highly recommend this recipe.

The ingredients in this mochi recipe can be easily found at any supermarket. I would suggest to the use the exact ingredients and ratios in the recipe.

Your friendly neighborhood "pambansang" blogger of the Philippines had the opportunity to witness the inauguration of a new prestigious landmark in Zamboanga city where the 2nd Zamboanga International Film Festival was also held last February 26 until March 2, 2014. The film festival showcased several Filipino and foreign films especially the independent or indie films at the newly-built Cinematheque Zamboanga of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP)

The city was also celebrating their 77th Dia De Zamboanga or Zamboanga Day when I arrived the morning of February 26, 2014 so it was a very festive day for the entire city. Zamboanga Day was anchored on the theme “Build Back Better Zamboanga” - a gargantuan effort to rise again and bring back the glorious days of the city after its terrible dilemma dealing with the 23-day conflict between the lawless Muslim elements and government forces which resulted to many displaced families.

The Cinematheque Zamboanga, conveniently located in the heart of the city along Legionnaire Road and very near the popular Paseo Del Mar and Plaza Del Pilar, is the country's biggest art-house movie theater with 180 seats as compared to the 120-seat standard that can be found at the Cinematheques in Davao, Iloilo and Baguio. It can also be used as a venue for workshops and symposiums to enhance the skills of our local film makers.

Selfie with Ellen DeGeneres at the Oscars

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I am betting you are you one of the billions of people tuned in at the Oscars.  However, aside from getting to know the proud winners, there's been a yearly tradition that has been going on and much anticipated as well: the Ellen DeGeneres "selfie".

Ellen DeGeneres just won the Internet with this star-studded selfie. Ellen's Oscars 'Selfie' is one of the most retweeted and most favorited post of all time. The post above has been retweeted over 1M times and climbing as of this writing. Only Ellen can do this at the Oscars.

Too bad Jared Leto got cut off at the left side. Jared didn't get in the shot but he won!!! Kevin Spacey photo-bombed them all. He is awesomely devious even when photobombing! I wonder if Brad Pitt asked him "What's in the box?!" Bradley Cooper in the front, can you say yes please?!  Is it just me or does Julia Roberts look drunk as hell? Lol! Is that Angelina Jolie trying to block her face or was she waving?? I think this is the first pic ever that Angelina was cut out LMAO. Can barely see Channing Tatum, but he's there. I love how Lupita's brother got in this pic, and she's way in the back. Jennifer Lawrence fell as she was walking in. Yeah we saw that.

Bogart the Explorer Makes Us Laugh Out Loud with "Brozen"

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Your friendly neighborhood pambansang blogger takes a look at the new video that is starting to go viral and riding the waves of popularity of the recent Disney animated movie Frozen.

Let it go, build a snowman in Summer because for the first time in forever Bogart the Explorer from Davao City is doing a Frozen Parody called... BROZEN

That wacky face that we've seen singing at a Killer Karaoke TV show segment as one of the celebrity contestants now sings "the past is in the past let it go let it go the perfect girl is gone" Lol!
Making undoubtedly the best and most creative Frozen cover is the "papa bear" with the humorous Australian accent known as Bogart the Explorer from Davao City - Explorer extraordinaire from down under (Davao City), YouTube show and Event Host, Drummer, Gentleman, and all around nice guy.

Whether he must indeed say "plis eccept mi epelegy!" will be all up to you after you've watched the YouTube video inspired by the Frozen soundtrack "Let It Go" but with a slight mix of Do You Wanna Build a Snowman at the first part of this awesome parody. Everyone will be rolling on the floor laughing at each scene.

Get ready to watch the video below but please bear in mind that you've been warned:

Almost There to Senior Years

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Hello there fellow batchmates!

Don't you get the feeling of being a senior already? In just a short span of time we're already becoming seniors! Time flies so fast! I know that as of right now we are not really thinking of our future senior years but summer. But as for me, I get so excited just by thinking of us graduating together.

So yeah guys, let's scroll back ur time and reminisce our time, may it be hard or easy, together!

We started our class this school year on June 3, 2013.

We didn't really talk much with each other that time and we didn't really care with whom we will be spending our school days. We were also very shy when introducing ourselves in front because we don't want to get embarrassed but some of us already knew each other.

We first tested our cooperation and team work when we joined the "song-making" in our school which was held at the gym. We didn't really won but just by thinking that we, although we crammed and we didn't like to perform, came out a song that we're still singing today makes me happy.

Field Trip: Precious Memories

Wazzup Pilipinas!

For a student like me, going to field trips is fun and exciting especially when you're with your best friends or with someone whom you are very close. We can only go to these trips during our pre-school, elementary and high school days.

When we grow up and become college students there will be no time for field trips because we will be very busy during these days. Even if we go on trips it will be different because going with someone whom you were friends for how many years and someone whom you only first met will be very awkward.

What I meant by "only first met" is that there will be a chance where we will meet new people, new classmates, new friends and don't have the time to spend with our old friends. Me, I'm already a 3rd year student next school year I'm going to be a 4th year and after that year a college student. Time flies so fast when you're having fun that's why we have to treasure every moment of it.

Upcoming Video Games of 2014

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Playing video games is very popular and addicting to many because it involves a lot of challenging interaction spiced up with glaring 3D graphics and animation filled with amazing eye-candy. With the advancement of intuitive technology, more and more interaction is possible to make video game playing a very engaging experience.

Gone are the days when we are limited only to console or PC gaming because with smartphones becoming more affordable and an everyday necessity, we can now bring our games with us. The widespread internet access through free wi-fi hotspots all over several places like restaurants, hotels, and malls have also allowed us to play online. Several downloadable, and mostly free, gaming apps are accessible to everyone that traveling long hours on the road has become less boring.

2014 is said to be the a good year for gaming with the new next gen consoles released and a lot of games soon to hit the shelves of gaming stores and online digital distribution this year.

Here are some of the games I find interesting:

My Magical Experience at Enchanted Kingdom

(c) Val Llabore
Wazzup Pilipinas!

"True friends will always stay by your side even when life goes up and down, round and round like a carousel."The last destination of Pasig City Science High School's education tour was at Enchanted Kingdom in Laguna.

Even though the weather was hot that day of February 20,2014 when we had our field trip, and arrived at Enchanted Kingdom around 1:00 in the afternoon, it didn't stop us from waiting in line just to be able to try the best rides at Enchanted Kingdom.

My friends and I were very excited because among the three places that we've gone to, Enchanted Kingdom was our most-awaited destination. It's not like it was our first time to visit EK but rather it was our first time to go there together. Since we were not allowed to bring food inside, we just brought our wallets to buy food and gadgets to take pictures.

Got to Believe in Magic: A Night to Remember

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Do you believe in magic? If not, then you must. Magic doesn't only mean those illusions or tricks made by those so-called magicians.

Sometimes, magic can also be a representation of those wonderful, amazing happenings in our lives. Something that we treasure and cherish as time passes by — memories. Those memories that we share with our friends and family.

As high school students, one of the most awaited events in our high school lives is the Juniors' and Seniors' Promenade. This is the night wherein we will have a memorable bond— eating, taking pictures and of course, dancing with our friends and well, some with their special someone.

Educational Field Trip for 2014

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Field trips are structured activities usually done outside the classroom for educational purposes. It can be a brief observational activity at manufacturing plants, factories, museums, heritage sites, zoos or theme parks, or a longer more sustained investigation or project done regularly on a monthly schedule.

Field trips offer the students an opportunity to get exposure outside the "real" world. They get to meet people, attend events, witness how things work and operate, and learn to make connections with others. Students on field trips visit people and places that they are not normally exposed to during the normal school day.

I always make it a point to join our yearly school field trips. My classmates and I are always thrilled to see new and interesting places especially those that are far from where we live. There is always that great feeling of excitement as we create new memories exploring unique and visually attractive sights.

Places You Should Visit This Summer 2014

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Summer is one of the most awaited seasons here in the Philippines. It's time to think of your next dream trip for summer as there's only a  few days left before we officially declare summer in the Philippines. We can already feel the heat thus the unfettered enthusiasm is upon us as we dream of white sandy beaches, waterfalls and islands, or perhaps for the nature and animal (including birds) lovers - pine trees, mountains and wild forests.

Almost everyone wants a quaint, rustic and laid back experience to get away from the noisy, crowded and busy urban life. The months of March to may usually means planning a trip to top tourist destinations and we would always like to recommend to make the Philippines your first choice.

It is also the most awaited season by  students because it is a long vacation. In this summer 2014, do you already have plans on how you would spend it? Or where you would spend it? If none, why not try to visit these places on this coming summer season.
