Transi(en)t MNL: A Lightning Residency Program
Wazzup Pilipinas!
Project Glocal and 98B COLLABoratory, in partnership with Escolta Commercial Associations, Inc., present Transi(en)t Manila, a lightning residency program conceived to provide avenues of involvement for artists and collaborating creatives from different disciplines. The project was launched in April 2014, with satellite programs in Taipei in March and Penang in August.
Transi(en)t Manila activities are as follows:
15 November, along with 98B’s Future Market and ESC Project, Pan will launch Kwok Hin Tang’s (HongKong) video work—an output of his research residency in May for Transi(en)t Manila.
21 November at 4:30PM, Peterson Building will launch Ernest Concepcion’s (Philippines) installation, a spin-off of his latest work earlier exhibited at the UP Jorge Vargas Museum for his solo “Crux of Things”.
22 November from 3:00PM to 6:00PM, Juan Luna Building hosts a talk on “The Project Glocal Experience” with Marika Constantino (Philippines), Fiona Lee (HongKong), and Joey Berenguer (Philippines). The installation work of Kok Yoong Lim (Malaysia) and the video documentation of Project Glocal 2014: Transi(en)t installments (Taipei and Penang) will also be launched.
27 November from 10:30AM to 3:00PM, the Museum of Contemporary Arts and Design and the Arts Management Program of the School for Design and Arts-College of Saint Benilde will host demo of recent tech projects by Yung Ta Chang (Taiwan) and Ian Carlo Jaucian (Philippines). At 3:30PM there will be a talk with theme “Art+Technology, Heritage and People” with Kanta Horio (Japan), Wit Pimkanchanapong (Thailand), J Pacena (Philippines) and Arch. Dominic Galicia (Philippines). The day will close with a workshop on technology of food with Hattori Hiroyuki and Daiya Aida (Japan) at 5:00PM.
29 November from 10:00AM the works are available for viewing for walk-in audience. Tour groups are advised to register via email. Curator’s walk thru with Dayang Yraola (Project Glocal Founder and Lead Curator, Philippines) starts at 2:00PM. Walk thru will start from the Juan Luna Building for the work of Kok Yoong Lim (Malaysia) and Umeda Tetsuya (Japan), Ernest Concepcion (Philippines) at Peterson, Wit Pimkanchanapong (Thailand) at the Ruins, Kwok Hin Tang (HongKong) at Pan///, Fiona Lee (HongKong) and Ian Carlo Jaucian(Philippines) at Calvo Museum, Renan Ortiz (Philippines) and Po Chih Huang (Taiwan) at TEOFF, Urich Lau (Singapore) at Regina, and Mark Salvatus (Philippines) at the First United Building. This will be followed by a performance at the Berg’s Department Store (venue of 98B’s Future Market at FUB) by Chris Brown and Johanna Poethig (USA), Kanta Horio (Japan) and Yung Ta Chang (Taiwan) starting at 6:00PM.
Transi(en)t Manila will close on 30 November with a talk by guest curator Yang Yeung (HongKong) of soundpocket at 98B at 3:00PM.
This project is co-presented by The Japan Foundation Manila, Arts Management Program of DLS-College of Saint Benilde School of Design and Arts, and Red Carabao Manila. Supported by Interaksyon Lifestyle, Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, Viva Manila, Old Walks Manila, Click SonicLab, BMLab, Anonas Press House, Basic Elements Inc., Bamboo Curtain (Taipei), National Arts Council (Singapore), Boysen and Jumbo Plastic Linoleum.
