Tourism Malaysia: Engaging the Youth to See the World Starting with Malaysia
Wazzup Pilipinas!
Malaysia is a gastronomical paradise and a melting-pot of multicultural races and religions. Just like the Philippines, Malaysia is home to hundreds of colorful festivals because similar to Filipinos, the people of Malaysia love socializing with others and celebrating almost everything to give praise and thanks.
It would be great for all of us to visit Malaysia one of these days not just to visit their wonderful tourist spots, but also to experience their culture and meet their people. Since Malaysia is part of Asia, the people of the Philippines could easily relate to these amazing cultural
Tourism Malaysia, the tourism arm of the Malaysian government, have recently visited different colleges and universities in the country to promote closer relationship with the people of the Philippines. The tour was designed to showcase Malaysia's culture, its people, government and destinations to the many student and faculty attendees.
I was fortunate enough to be invited to one of the school visits done at the main campus of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Sta. Mesa, Manila last November 18, 2014. The event was held at the Ninoy Aquino building of the said campus and was attended by a great number of students mostly from the Tourism and Hospitality & Management courses. The school auditorium was filled to the brim with so many young and eager attendees that day.
It was a nice move of Tourism Malaysia to target the students since many of the youth are very much engaged in discovering almost everything since they are at a stage of curiosity and wonder. Traveling the world would be a fabulous and memorable experience that many would not hesitate to pack their bags at the very first opportunity to visit other countries like Malaysia.
I haven't fully explored the entire Philippines yet, but I won't miss out on a chance to visit neighboring countries too if budget and time permits.
The funny thing is, I almost had two opportunities to visit the country but failed due to certain circumstances. The first time was when I was given a free round-trip flight to Malaysia that we won in a raffle at an event of Tourism Malaysia where they launched the Tara Na Sa Malaysia brochure. But my tight schedule was not very cooperative until the flight already expired last August 2014. Second was when I was asked to cover a golfing event but they required that I should know how to play golf. Maybe someday my luck would change and I can finally travel to the country. It will surely be a fascinating experience to write about.
At the event, students lined up to register and were all excited to witness the presentation of Tourism Malaysia. The outsides of the venue had some companies like Air Asia who had a water pong booth for a chance to win some items, and Malaysia Airlines who was distributing flyers, and other attractions like the guy from Sabah who played the "sompoton" musical instrument.
Everyone also cheered out loud when the host of the event announced a special raffle where some may win round trip tickets to lucky students and faculty members of the schools. Yey! If I won, among my first destinations would be the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, the KL Tower Revolving Restaurant, the Elephant Orphanage Sanctuary and Legoland at Kuala Lumpur.
The delegates from Tourism Malaysia were welcomed with a cultural song number from probably the students of PUP who were all dressed in our native Filipino clothes.
After a few talks from the distinguished guests and some cultural songs and dance from the PUP building entrance, some video presentations, next in line that day was a visit to the Centro Escolar University (CEU) where the same program was presented to the faculty and students. I didn't tagged along anymore due to another event coverage as media partner.
I will not be surprised if Tourism Malaysia will continue this campus tour to further introduce Malaysia to the youth. There are several colleges and universities in the Philippines that would want to get a glimpse of the culture plus sights and sounds of the truly Asian country.
Make sure you include a trip to Malaysia in your travel itineraries.
"For the perfect holiday full of surprises, the time is now, the place is Malaysia."
Ever since one of my cousins visited Malaysia, it has become my dream to visit the country as well, maybe someday when I am already earning a living. Malaysia's tourism, I can say, has thought of a very good way to encourage people to visit their country. Well, Malaysia, of course, has a lot of wonderful places and tourist destinations. Lucky are those students who were given the chance to visit the country for free. How I wish I was one of them, because I wouldn't miss it for the world!
ReplyDeleteIndeed a golden opportunity given to the participants. If I were to visit other Asian country, Malaysia is definitely going into the list. ~ http://www.barakonews.com/
ReplyDeleteNever thought of visiting Malaysia in the near future but reading this article got me. I badly want to visit their tourist destinations now.
ReplyDeleteThe students who are invited were really lucky because they experienced the race and culture of Malaysia in such days. I hope that i could go and explore more the Malaysia Country because it is likely similar to Philippines. They have feasts and occasions which they celebrate just like us Filipinos so I hope someday I get the opportunity to visit this wonderful place here in Asia.
